Table 128 blew me out of the water for a nice date night. Upscale, intimate ambiance, delicious food what more could you ask for? My date and I shared the crab corn starter and it was SO GOOD. It was the perfect amount too! I started with the Poinsettia Cocktail which was festive. The pork shoulder and bread pudding/stuffed sweet potatoes/apple main is so genius and balanced every bite melted in my mouth. The service was impeccable. I will for sure be back! read more

128 indicates the measurement of the largest food on the menu (128mm equals around 5") so eat somewhere that has normal size food before you come here and you will like it. Superb lunch. This was my first time here and the restaurant was so busy during lunchtime on a weekday that the only available seating without a reservation was outside (so I'd recommend making one if you want a guaranteed table). We started off with a splendid cheese plate ($16) that was the perfect size for 2 people. The cheese varies daily and comes in an assortment of 3 along with tomato jam (I did not expect this to taste as good as it did), pickled mustard, proscuitto and almonds. Furthermore, the bread that came along tasted freshly baked, not cheap at all and was the perfect pairing. There is a "pick 2" from soup/salad/sandwich lunch special that is only $10!! I ordered the black bean soup and kale salad. The soup was average and a little watery, but the kale salad was great -- fresh and the dressing was good. Combined with the cheese plate, it was a fantastic and filling lunch. Overall, Table 128 really pays attention to detail in everything from service to decor and especially the food itself. The atmosphere is great. We got the scallops and lamb, the scallops melted in your mouth like butter while the lamb was perfectly tender. The menu does change seasonally but if you see these on the menu I recommend them! For desert I got a truffle topped with gold flakes it was perfectly filled with not to much cream and not to much darkness in the chocolate. Truly a hidden gem in Iowa, it's hard to find restaurants like this in the suburbs! read more

Delicious and local. Very classy spot with no military discount. Prices are slightly on the high end but the food is worth it. The duck confit tacos hit the spot and they do very well to make gluten free options available. We shared some lamb meatballs that were quite good but we only got 3 balls. The food is delicious, I think the chocolate chip cookies are the best I have ever had. You can even order some to take with you. The wait staff was attentive and we love the craft cocktails. The entrees have always been great and skillfully made. This is real culinary skill. We have been multiple times and always had great meals. Chef Lynn Pritchard has created a gem in West Des Moines!!! The ambiance is great for either business dinner or evening with friends. Elegant but laid back and comfortable. I only wish he lived in Dallas, TX. Great food, great atmosphere, great service... great everything!!! But the most amazing part... the falafel. I have been a vegetarian for many years and have eaten falafel everywhere (including where it was invited. ;) Table 128 has ...HANDS DOWN... the best falafel I have ever had! The food here is always wonderful. There is usually some ingredient on the menu that even a seasoned foodie may be unfamiliar with--which is wonderful, but I do always wish there was some sort of explanation of these on the menu to avoid awkwardly googling or asking the server. Slightly casual vibe with intentional decor and not a huge eating room. Everything my party had was delicious, and the server was great (even though we may have been slightly annoying splitting the check a million ways). By the end of the evening, the lighting felt a bit too dim to be able to read the menu and appreciate the beauty of the food fully. But again, everything truly was delicious. read more

I think this place has great potential, but they dropped the ball on our evening. The service was just okay. My food was not good. I had the special, prawns and polenta. The polenta both looked and tasted like muddy water (maybe it was?). We wanted to get in and out in a decent time but were there for an hour and a half. Food took a long time to come in between courses. I don't think I'd risk trying it again. See the picture of my muddy polenta, and you likely won't either. Angry donuts were amazing as we're the scallops according to my colleague. The salmon was overlooked according to my other colleague. Soup was okay. I would call it a mediocre experience at best. The manager called to discuss the evening, and compensated the charges. I appreciate good customer service from the top down. I will return to this place. I stopped here while in Des Moines on business with a group of co-workers. The service was friendly and attentive, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere wonderfully unexpected. It had a classy, but European feel to it. We started with a cheese plate, which had great choices and nice accoutrements. Table 128... good quality, local food. We came in for happy hour, every app is basically $6. the angry donuts and burger were both tasty and a great deal. The angry donuts were fluffy, sweet and savory, and paired perfectly with the sriracha aioli. We also had the duck confit tacos ($15 for 3 tacos), the corn tortillas were dry and broke easily; I don't think this is the best vessel for the filling, which was tasty. I think either a homemade flour tortilla or the thin wraps you get with pecking duck would have held up nicer. The ambience is great, I like the options, it's a little more expensive than your average chain restaurant, but the quality and freshness is much better here. I've had the best salad before which is delicious as well and the small cookies they give you with your bill are perfection. Table 128. This restaurant is located in a West Des Moines strip mall. It had a warm and cosy feeling, low lights with fresh flowers on the table. Service was really friendly. This is a great place for a date night. There were a few hiccups in our experience, but overall it was nice. We had tuna poke, brussels, pork chop, and the beef dish. The tuna poke was good, I think it would have been delicious with out the nori cracker. It makes sense why it was there, for texture, but the taste of the cracker made the fish taste super fishy, when in fact, the fish was great on its own. Pork chop was ok, the foie gras inside was maybe slightly overcooked, had extra gamey flavor. And although figs & foie gras works together, stuffing it in the pork somehow didn't work for us; decadence for the sake of decadence. The pork itself was cooked great. The wild rice with the pork was inedible. Completely undercooked. We told the waitress to let the kitchen know that the rice they were serving was way under cooked, and she smiled and didn't say anything, and took the plate. The beef dish was great & enjoyed the potatoes with it also. The beef was cooked perfectly med rare, and each bite I enjoyed. The veg was cooked very well on each dish, the green beans were perfect. We had 4 cocktails, all were delicious. We were excited to find out they had a happy hour on Saturdays. So one round of cocktails would have been 1/2 off. Lastly the brussels.. a favorite in this group & now I see why everyone loves it... Although most restaurants fry their brussels, this dish is not that. Its perfection. We both agreed we would eat this again and again. From the manchego to the prosciutto, to the mustard seed vinaigrette, to the poached egg.. sooo delicious. We both tasted a slight hint of horseradish?.. which took it over the top. We wanted it to be in more of a flat dish rather than a bowl, mostly because we kept digging for the good stuff at the bottom. Every dish here does look like a piece of art, and you can tell care goes into presentation which is great. In the end, we spent about $130, and noticed the waitress didn't discount the 1/2 off cocktails, but we passed on saying something because we didn't want to wait and the drinks were worth it anyway.. We were surprised nobody came to address the rice, but perhaps forgot or busy; which was slightly disappointing. There are things that could be improved, but I understand why this is a date night place. The things that were an issue are not going to stop us from trying this place again. read more

Overall good GNO spot for light food and drinks in the area. We came here before a concert to get some drinks and apps. Service was a little slow, but overall pretty good spot. The best thing we got was the brussel sprouts salad which comes with a soft egg on top. RUDE. I wish I could give this location zero stars but that's not an option. My work colleague and I were visiting from out of town and stopped by for dinner. We we told by the woman at the front door that they were full and had no openings that night. After looking around to a fairly empty restaurant, we looked on open table and saw available reservations for the entire night. We made a reservation and were sat within minutes. We were unfairly judged at the door and LIED to. And what makes this is even more sad is that the woman at the door was the owner/chefs wife. Apparently this establishment doesn't want to make money. Also, if you want a pretty good cheese board this is your place, everything else was mediocre. read more

I heart this place! I've dined here 3x now and have enjoyed each visit. Breakfast is wonderful. They have simple dishes that pack lots of flavor & utilizes seasonal ingredients. I did eggs & toast, which is normally boring, but I was very content. Dinner is where it's at--they have a fairly large wine list, including several affordable selections by the glass. Also noteworthy is their cocktail list (get the elderflower drink!) and beer list, which includes various local beers. Normally I don't get salads, but the beet salad caught my eye--goat cheese, candied nuts, roasted beets & greens. Sooo good! Sweet, salty, crunchy. Most recently, I got an entree of flank steak (which was a perfect med-rare) and it included a side salad, so I went with the kale caesar, which was tasty. Although, it's hard to beat the beets :) Everyone knows I'm a huge dessert snob, since it's my profession. Naturally, I had to get the chocolate salted caramel tart. Divine! Luscious caramel, silky dark chocolate and a hint of salt. The gold leaf was an elegant touch, but I was too scared to eat it. I should have just thought of it as doing a shot of Goldschlagger. The tart shell was a little too thick and difficult to cut, but other than that it's a fabulous dessert. I've dined with co-workers and family, but I think it'd be a really nice date spot. I was worried when they closed Tartine to reopen as Table 128 Bistro, but it seems these worries were unfounded. The outdoor patio is a very nice addition (the perfect late spring conditions didn't hurt any). The new menu is interesting and I'm looking forward to returning to try several new dishes. I particularly enjoyed the mussels and the flat bread from the small plates section and the kale Caesar salad. The wine and beer list is diverse, and divided into two sections: Tried and True and Leap of Faith. I tried a Syrah from Croatia which I'd never seen anywhere before, and it was delicious and moderately priced as well. Lots of interesting offerings on both the beer and wine lists. Every bite was not replaceable for me. Is there better food in the world? Sure. Food at this price point in the Des Moines area would be very hard to beat. My wife and I stopped here for an early dinner (as we had skipped lunch). Service was welcoming and excellent. Our waitress was relatively new, but said as much, and was quick to find the answer to our questions. My wife tried their version of a Moscow Mule - fresh, citrus flavored and delicious. I had the Old Rusty - completely wonderful (yes, I ordered two). I never thought scotch could be refreshing! To eat we started off with Parmesan Fries to share. Sinfully delicious - several bowls could have been consumed. A kale and apple salad for her, and the beet salad (can I have a pancake stack of those beets?) for me. Both were the freshest of ingredients and a perfect setup to our main course. For our entrees, my wife ordered the steak, me the cod. Both were tastebud explosions. The detail and combination of flavors are sure to please the food snob in all of us. While the bill would be above our normal price grade for a dinner outing, we very much plan to return for the special occasion, whatever let's just splurge, or even for happy hour and an appetizer. read more

This place has a wonderful, romantic atmosphere which was perfect for the dinner I went to there for my fiance's birthday. While he really enjoyed his meal, I was a little disappointed with the lack of food options on the menu. I ended up order their garlic parmesan fries as an appetizer and their kale salad for an entree. The fries were amazing!! And a good amount of them were given to us even though they were just an appetizer. The kale salad was good, it had apples, cranberries, cheese and a vinaigrette dressing. The service at the restaurant was really disappointing. We came at 5pm on a Monday and it still took a while to be served. With the amount of money that it cost for two people to eat there, plus the lack of food choices and service, I do not plan on going back again. read more

Started with the ugly donuts which are fried bread batter balls with a marinara sauce. Tasty enough, but not anything to crave, and the sauce was bland. Wife ordered the duck which had french toast, goat cheese & asparagus in a maple syrup sauce. The sauce was too sweet & overwhelmed the dish. I ordered the lamb which was good. Cooked perfectly, but again, the sauce was sweet (not like the duck sauce). Wasn't a huge fan of the pureed sweet potatoes because they reminded me of baby food. Wow, maybe some of the best food in DeMo. I joined a colleague for lunch and sat on their patio. We didn't get an umbrella and that is my only complaint! The shellfish bisque was totally amazing!! Creamy and delicious, I could have eaten just that. But really glad I didn't. It tasted like the ocean in a bowl. I had the featured lunch entree, salmon on a bed of quinoa with haricots verts on a spread of a smoky jam. The salmon was cooked perfect, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The smoked jam matched the quinoa amazingly giving it that perfect amount of flavor to compliment the fish. Just that dish alone has made me a huge fan of the food here. This was our first visit to Table 128 and we walked away with having eaten one of the best plates of food we've had in Des Moines. We had the sturgeon with roasted brussels spouts and the short ribs. Both had great flavor and well presented. I enjoyed a Pineapple Punch their signature drink of the night - it was light and refreshing. Spent a wonderful evening enjoying an amazing dinner at Table 128 Bistro and Bar last Saturday. A friend had recommended this place to us. I don't understand why this restaurant did not feature in the top ten fine dining restaurants in Des Moines on Yelp. Perhaps more of us who go there need to remember to write these reviews and not melt into a happy and satisfied state of mind after an awesome dinner experience and forget to write a review to say thank you. So here I am doing my part. From the outside this place did not look very impressive. Of course it was really cold last Saturday and the wind was howling. I did notice some outside seating option but of course no one was sitting outside and the there were not lights outside. Inside, this is is a cute and relatively tiny little restaurant. When you walk in you see a beautiful bar, the restaurant area is to the left of the bar. The menu is not huge and there's a three course chef's menu (with or without wine pairings) option as well for a fixed price. We chose to order from the regular menu. To begin with my Chardonnay was delish and served ice cold, the way it tastes the best. My husband said his gin martini was really well made. We ordered the mushroom dumplings as our appetizer. It was tremendous and nothing like anything I've ever tasted. It was served with little bit of snow peas, pickled onion, and strong mustard. We could not choose a salad to share so we each chose a salad. I had the salad with butternut squash and crab which seems like an unlikely combination but it totally rocked. My husband had the fig salad and that was excellent too, I know because I tasted it as well. For our main courses I ordered the yellowtail and my husband ordered the duck breast with pork belly hash and enochi mushrooms. My yellowtail came with romesco which I'd never had before. Once I tasted I hoped they serve this in heaven. The dinner was unforgettable as an experience in my heart and my stomach. Surely going back there on our next trip to Des Moines. read more

This is a good spot to spend some bucks - and spend some bucks you will if you eat their standard prix fixe meal and order a beer or wine to go with your meal - figure about $100 for 2 sans tip. The food is good - well served - the main course was delivered by the chef (I think!) and the wine by their sommelier (I know). As far as the particulars I can say I liked their duck over french toast and their lamb shank a lot. Well-prepared, timely serving and thoughtful preparation - all good things. Their wine and beer selection seemed well thought out as well - although their Valpolicella was not the round and robust variety I hoped for (having had the good stuff in Italy). I think they're still at the stage that they're not quite trusting their own taste buds in picking wines from their distributors - there was no wine out of the 4-5 we sampled that stood out enough to stand up and say BooYah! In any case it's a good meal especially if you're sharing - lots of tasty stuff to choose from on their menu. I'll be visiting again. read more
