What I found was a little gem off of one of the main roads in downtown Des Monies. Even before you enter this self described "Tiki Bar" you see all the brick buildings, and then you see an actual grass covered roof...yep that's the place and a really nice touch. The interior is equally cool and spacious, you are greeted by the bar area immediately when you walk in. To your right are comfy couches and instagram friendly neon wall signs, with that signature tiki touch of floral patterns and great lighting. The location is connected to a Asian food restaurant, so they get their food from them as you drink some of the most well crafted adult drinks I've had in a while. I came for happy hour on a Saturday 4:00pm-6:30pm. The drinks were basically 2.00 off with discounted food, the menu is limited to mostly chicken wraps and crab rangoons etc. I will say the portions were filling and very delicious. The star of the show was my El Colmillo, a tequila based drink with lime, orange juice, lime. The bartender did say it's all pre mixed, and that day she subbed the tequila with Casamigos, because the house tequila was out. Customer service was great, until it wasn't. Our server was excellent, until a guy came in off break and they seemed to have some tension. She really didn't have that same positive energy as before, otherwise an overall excellent experience. The first time I went, the dude who was bartending was amazing! We talked about how they're developing the menu, he made suggestions. The second time I went, I was alone at the bar with no other customers and it took awhile to get a menu and have my order taken, but no real issues and the bartender was friendly. I think the waitress was having some drama but who isn't? The drinks were really good both times, but that smell is really off putting, I hope they can fix it because the place has such unique vibes and a fun story.

The whole concept is cool - rooftop, outdoor seating, sports bar and Johnston's in need of this, but sadly they still need to work on some things (after 4 months being open). Once on the rooftop we waited 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us and there was a sign saying see hostess for seating - no hostess to be seen and the four people (bartender and three servers that we saw) saw us but continued to walk past. It was not busy - maybe four tables of people so that wasn't an excuse, and when someone finally came over they told us to sit wherever.... Problem: very few tables were cleared. We found one against the wall and sat. The server came and asked for our drink orders and we asked for water and menus and time. She brought the menus and after a few minutes came back for our orders. We put in drink orders and asked for nachos (guacamole and pico on the side because of allergies) and cheese curds. She brought the water and drinks and while we waited for the food, the bartender came over and told us he was lowering the shade which would hit our table so we would have to change tables (still no cleared tables mind you) or move our table and chairs in further. He helped us scoot the table and we moved our chairs... I really was regretting giving the place another chance at this point. (Two previous trips we had poor service, cold food and burnt food). We had been the there about 30 minutes and the cheese curds came out - they were perfectly browned and crispy and the chipotle dipping sauce is delicious... but they had been sitting somewhere and were not as hot as fresh cheese curds should be. Still tasted good and we were hungry but disappointing. Plates were brought out about 5 minutes later and we expected the nachos to follow... how long can nachos take? The sever didn't check on us or our food order and about five minutes later as we finished the curds came to remove our plates which were actually clean because we hadn't received our nachos yet and the plates came after we'd already been eating the curds. We told her we needed them for the nachos which hadn't come yet (now 45-50 minutes after we put in our order). She didn't apologize or check on the nachos and went about to other tables. Over an hour after putting in our order a runner came to the table with the trashcan nachos, dumped them in the tray and took off like she couldn't disappear quick enough. The nachos were not very warm (seasoned ground beef, queso... lukewarm warm at best) but we had waited over an hour for nachos and were very disappointed already so we ate and when the server saw we were done, she brought the tab, we paid and left. It was our third disappointing experience and at this point I'm not sure if we'll go back again, it's been four months and we keep hoping things will get better, but you can only give so many "second chances" and we've already given three. For two beer, and two appetizers the bill came to nearly $50 (without the tip) which is quite steep for our experience overall.

Very knowledgeable about the whole menu with a sommelier on the floor floating around to answer any questions. All staff worked in strong unison by delivering drinks and entrees in a coordinated fashion which shows that they take their job of serving very seriously! The restaurant is very elegant, clean and a fancy setup. We did not sit at the bar area, but that seems to be another great spot. We had a number of different courses. Starting with a warm croquette as compliments of the chef! Then a brioche roll with butter that was killer - perfect mix of sweet and salty on the fluffy slices of brioche bread. Also got the lobster ravioli shared plate. Magnificent My wife got the candied pork chop . This was a large cut of meat with a sweet and savory glaze. Very juicy meat that let all the flavors come out! I got the Wagyu Sirloin. This was cooked to order (medium) which retained so much flavor. The borderlaise sauce was a fantastic compliment to the steak as well. For dessert, a complimentary apple jam NY cheesecake was served. Great crust and a light cheesecake was a great end to the meal. My wife got the hot chocolate soufflé which was so warm and melted in the mouth. Of the two, this dessert was the winner. While a very nice fine dining restaurant, I feel their prices are reasonably fair for the value. Don't expect a cheap meal, but do t expect a subpar experience either!
