I hoped this would be a great tiki bar worth revisiting. From the outside, it looks like a fantastic tiki bar waits but it was quite lackluster. The bar was nicely decorated, a cross of 70s and tiki. There is ample seating and hidden corners to enjoy the tiki drinks. There are neat art works on the wall and there's definitely no shortage of Bamboo- has the Tiki look but doesn't feel like a tiki bar. Drinks were okay we had shared the Pink Fuzzy and Zombie. Presentation was lacking for a place that calls itself a Tiki bar- tiki drinks should include mini umbrellas, fruit, maybe even smoke.

Guess what......the drinks are still good and anyone crying about the pricing, don't come if you don't want good drinks with great service.

Delightful tiki bar in downtown Des Moines. Find the sushi place, turn the corner, look up and you'll see the thatch overhand. Inside you'll find exquisite decor and a delightful menu including some house twists on old favorites. If possible, try to visit on a weeknight for a more relaxed pace and more time to interact with the bartender.

This is a great place for Tiki drinks. It has a cute tiki atmosphere and some of the nicest bartenders that know what they are doing. Drinks are so good! Try the Zombie it's really strong and really good. They only let you order two per person.

Fun concept bar with cheesy decor that gives that vintage Hawaiian vibe. The energy was good upon entering the bar. We sat at the bar and people watched and saw the magic happening behind the bar. The carefully mixed cocktails all have specialty glasses and cups to match their deliciousness. As you would expect in Hawaiian concept the drinks were on the sweet side. We tried a wide range from the frozen strawberry classic daiquiri to the booze forward Zombie with a 2 smiley face menu warning. This was the code for sip slow and enjoy very boozy , but good. We also opted for the ElCamillo this was far more fruity with passion fruit which is very sweet. We also had the zombie x2 . We tried quite a few of the cocktails. Each was prepared very precisely and measured to ensure accuracy and consistency. Had some funky music and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. 62.00 plus tip rounded out this post dinner stop. Highly enjoyable. One note for us was that this spot was lacking in staff(not unusual these days) and the young bartenders rocked it and made sure all patrons were waited on promptly. Give it a try !!!

The Cardinal Direction! As tasty as it was beautiful!

Court Avenue's hidden gem! I'm a huge fan of tiki bars and this didn't disappoint. The decor and atmosphere were super fun. The best part was the bar tender. He was great giving guidance on what to order. He also made the best off menu drink, the banana bread shot (which surprise isn't a shot at all). All the drinks we had were great. Would definitely recommend!

Cardinal Direction and Blue Hawaiian (booze free)

First time here and I'm definitely making it a regular spot for me. My drink was absolutely delicious and on point, Cardinal Direction. My wife got a non-boozy drink and was excellent as well. Music is not loud enough which is perfect for conversation and the decoration makes you feel transported. Also the staff is very friendly and helpful. Kudos to Revival House!

What a tiki vibe!!! Such fun decor that matched the amazing drinks it made you feel transported to a beach somewhere. The music didn't match the decor but it was upbeat and fun. Drinks were fantastic and better than another local tiki spot we tried. We had the Zombie and the Saturn and we're not disappointed. Tasty and potent!!

So it's a tiki bar (big shock). What was shocking was the price of drinks for alcohol involved and the atmosphere. Maybe because I was sober when I went there but I felt OLD. Meaning the groups of people in there were extremely young (read very loud and doing some tik tok stuff). Drinks were too sweet for my taste and service was slow considering it's a bar, waited about 10 min for our drinks. Cool to experience but don't think I'll be back.

A unique Tiki bar in the heart of Des Moines. It is well hidden. It is a small cozy fun cocktail bar.

The bartender was extremely rude and unprofessional. I do not recommend this place if you want to be treated with any sort of courtesy.

They also have soups and salads, and Chinese food entrees like Beef and Broccoli, Stir-Fry Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Orange Chicken, and Chili Garlic Shrimp. And yes, they have some of the best tiki drinks and mocktails around. I ordered a Painkiller and a Waving Cat to go with my Bang Bang Chicken Pizza. It took them about 12 minutes to prepare my pie. It was fresh and hot. It was also so good. I have never had a pizza like that before. It was very flavorful and tasty. It was so good, I even forgot to take a picture of it because I just jumped right in. My drinks came out much sooner, and they were also really, really good. The staff there was very friendly and attentive. My service was first class. I am so glad I found this spot and got to experience it. It does not look or feel like a tiki bar. It has a Miami bar kind of feel to it, with its bright lights. The bar is located in the center of the place and is in the shape of a square with seating on 3 of its 4 sides. They have a television and it was playing my favorite movie, the Last Dragon, while I was there. They have a decent selection of tropical tiki favorites including daiquiris and a full bar too. The bar tender was very nice, but he was kind of slow and not very attentive. After waiting about 10 minutes at a table I found him at the bar, placed my order and went back to my table where he brought me my drink that I ordered. I was chasing him down the entire night to get my drinks ordered. In learned that it was one of his first night alone, so I am sure that he will get better. I ordered a Pain Killer, a Funky Flamingo and a Pillow Talk. All the drinks were very good. They went down so smooth and were delicious. I will admit that the ice is a bit on the heavy side. Anyway, I believe this is the best option in the city for those searching for tiki drinks. I highly recommend checking this place out. Cheers.

I finally have decided I'm not going back after a few failed tries; the spinach and artichoke dip literally gave my friend and I food poisoning (we hadn't seen each other in over a week and this is the only thing we shared, and our symptoms started at the exact same time). I do love that they have the gluten conscious menu. But the chicken ranch meal is so dry it's not worth the money. The Cole slaw has the least flavor I've ever experienced (and I love Cole slaw). The burgers come out overcooked. I haven't strayed away from sandwiches or salads, maybe the pasta is good? I won't be going back, though.
