Super super crowded. We had to sit at the bar. The food was absolutely amazing. The meat was so soft it melted upon entering my mouth. The squid was also very tender. The price was crazy compared to US. This is a restaurant a tourist must try.

Excellent stop for a super authentic experience for the food and culture of Porto. Stopped here enroute to the Crystal Palace Gardens.

Fantastic. Everything we ordered was outstanding. The bill for 5 of us, including beers and appatizers came to 67€. We ordered 2 portions of pork belly and sausages. 5 stars Pork shank. (5 stars) Especiale (4 stars), it was good just not as good as Everything else. Veal stew (5 stars) fall of the bone veal pieces

This place is always busy. We came in on a Thursday in June at around 7:30pm and we were turned away as they were full. We made reservation for the next day at 8pm so that we can for sure enjoy their food. We returned the next day, Friday, at 7:57pm, determined to try their food. There are even MORE people today -- sitting in the patio having a lot of beer and food from their fridge. We asked our waiter (I think he is the owner?) for recommendations, but he basically said all are good. Thanks for the lack of help! So we ended up ordering at 8:07pm and our beer (EUR1 for 20cL) came in at 8:09; while our meals arrived at 8:17pm and 8:25pm respectively. Taste, portion, price: - Pork shank (EUR 12) was good - full of salty flavour and it comes out tender. - Beef steak (EUR 9) was not good - lack flavour, lack tenderness (came out well done) and the cut was not good at all. Portion were good on both - you will be full from the protein, but more so on the potatoes and copious amount of olive oil. Overall, I would say it is great for Portugal's taste. It is a barely pass for us based on our palate. Unfortunately, not a great experience at all.

Wasn't the greatest visit compared to other reviews. Maybe it was an off night. The place was authentic, local and friendly staff but food and wine left some things to be desired. Local ham pastry appetizer for €0.60 were fun. The veal estufada (veal stew) was a rather thick hunk of meat, more like a roast beef and a tad dry. The pork loin with potatoes was decent but main flavor was from coarse salt and was swimming in olive oil from the potatoes. €12 bottle of Portuguese Douro wine recommended by the waiter was not good - very fizzy almost like it was not completely fermented, more like a Lambrusco. Creme brûlée dessert was decent.

This is my favorite place to have eaten in Porto. Completely unpretentious, and the menu changes daily. The dishes are prepared by amazing local (and likely family) chefs. The food is delicious! And save room for the yummy regionally inspired dessert. The decor is shared between musical instruments and memorabilia and religious iconography. Not fancy but completely charming. Expect a short wait, especially on weekends. Dont be shy about your lack of Portuguese - don't worry - the staff is welcoming and friendly! Note: Portions big enough for 2 people! Order accordingly.

What a restaurant! This is the best place in Portugal the eat honest food. Herminia and her family will do their best to make you feel at home. The dishes are generous and really great. The menu changes every single day but you won't have lot of choices since Herminia cooks as if it is for her own family. You have to book a table since - by words of mouth - this place is slowly becoming THE place to have a great diner in Porto. I stayed 2 days in Porto and I came twice! And I'm not the only one - I could hear people around me saying "see you tomorrow Herminia!" I really recommend this place if you want to eat authentic Portuguese food and to learn some recipe from Herminia. I will be looking for an Herminia in every single city I visit.

This review is more than a year overdue. My wife and I arrived nearly two hours before closing on a random weekday back in November 2018 with another couple (US Tourists, kind of). The restaurant was packed. I asked for a table for four and was told there were none available. I had made the request in Portuguese (I'm a native speaker) thinking that'd give me an upper hand. Nope, sorry -no tables. The owner/manager explained that they only keeps fresh stuff in the kitchen and that they were 86'n dishes; hardly anything left to serve. I said, "don't worry about it, we'll take whatever you got." I ordered some wine for the group and drank outside the establishment, which has some tables outside along the street (typical taberna/cafe style). Anyways, we got seated shortly thereafter, had an amazing dinner, and made a new friend. We even went back several times during our 10-day stay. Nine months later, my wife and I had our first child. Food is superb and the wine is good.

So much flavor and perfect. I got the lemonade and it was just okay. Nothing special. Overall, would 100% recommend this place! Definitely recommend making a reservation, I found it impressive that the hostess's reservation system was essentially a notebook and pen in this digital age. We did not see much of our waiter, since the restaurant was extremely busy and filled up with diners. Standouts: 1. Razor clams - I'll always get these if I see it on the menu. Cooked in this incredible garlic sauce. 2. Fish and seafood cataplana - delicious, tomato-forward seafood stew; I liked the version that we had the night before more which came with rice and was more filling. But this was basically a never-ending bowl of fish, clams, mussels, and shrimp. Add to that the fact that the restaurant like most in Porto did not have A/C and I emerged feeling like I had been sitting in a sauna. Skipped dessert; I had my eye on the Weeel! froyo truck parked outside. One more nit - the metal chairs are not comfortable at all for sitting a long time in.

As I came in on my own I opted for the one open stool at the counter. The restaurant was busy on a Monday early evening, about 5:30-6:00 pm-ish, with what felt like mostly locals. They have a regular menu, a daily menu printed on the counter top, and they also do Take-Away. Their specialty is definitely their roasted chicken, which one can see cooking on spits at the entrance of the restatruant, conjuring such amazing smells that truly open up the appetite. The staff is sweet and did their best to serve me, with my English/Spanish and no Portugese self. Everything I ate was top-tier without being fancy. Simple and flavorful. I ordered a 1/2 chicken (way too much for me by myself) that came with batatas (french fries- which I didnt love), so I ordered a side of white rice and a salad, as well as what I would call a carafe of wine (it was definitely either two very healthy pours or 3 regular ones). All in all, I paid $15 euros, which I thought was a great value for all that I was given and how tasty everything was.

There were two other groups before us that were sat pretty quickly within 15 minutes or so. During the time we were waiting the hostess was extremely friendly and kept giving us updates on when the table was going to be ready and was making light conversation with us as we waited. When we finally got seated you could tell that the servers were definitely busy trying to get everyone's food and drinks out and so the same hostess came to us and said don't worry I'll take your order for you and told us the things that were the most popular which from my pictures we basically got everything she said LOL. And we were not disappointed with the food that we chose. Now we know why they are considered the house specialties. The flavors of the potato fish cheesy goodness dish I cannot remember the name of it was just so warm and comforting. I was worried about a fishiness coming through when you took different bites but no all the flavor is harmonized well with each other. The tuna salad that they made was extremely fresh and again was pleasantly surprised that though it was fish the spices and bread/butter combo that came with it really didn't give any fishiness. It was also well balanced. Now I will say though those other dishes were amazing our favorite hands down was definitely the grilled octopus. It was so tender and almost melt in your mouth. We were blown away by how well it was cooked. For sure I would say if you are in the area and have a good amount of time please check this spot out and give yourself at least 3 hours to enjoy the meal because again we sat there laughing eating and talking with the people around us because it was that fantastic of a Time for roughly 3 hours.

Exemplary Service, Incredible Modern Cuisine, and an Unforgettable Family Dinner at Tasco!…read more I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience at Tasco. This was our final night in Porto with three generations at the table--my wife, our two daughters, my parents, and myself--and we wanted a special place to celebrate the end of an amazing trip. My wife had walked into their famous neighbor, Muu, the night before to see if she could get us in, but they were completely booked. However, the co-owner of Muu and Tasco couldn't have been more festive or welcoming! He accommodated us by booking a table for our group at Tasco--their sister restaurant right next door--for the following night, and he even did a shot of tequila with my wife to celebrate. Talk about incredible Portuguese hospitality! Traveler Tip: Tasco is co-owned with Muu, literally right next door, and shares some of the same kitchen facilities and culinary staff. If you can't get into one, definitely check the other--you're getting that same exceptional standard of food! We were seated in their fantastic private dining room, which was perfect for our family. Tasco serves elevated modern cuisine designed to be enjoyed family-style. We started with the Cogumelos Mágicos (wild mushrooms) and the Cyber Punk (fresh tuna sashimi)--both were incredible and packed with flavor. For our main courses, we shared the Rib Eye, Black Angus, and Supremo de Robalo (sea bass). Every single dish was cooked to perfection and loved by everyone from the kids to my parents. As impressive as the food was, the service during a chaotic moment truly set this night apart. Mid-dinner, my wife accidentally broke a wine glass right on the table. Before we could even feel embarrassed, our server stepped in with total grace and composure. They cleaned the entire area seamlessly without disrupting the flow of our meal, and upon noticing my wife had a small cut on her finger, they immediately brought out a bandage with genuine care and concern. From the warm tequila-fueled welcome the night before to looking after us so thoughtfully at dinner, the team at Tasco delivered exemplary service from start to finish. If you're visiting Porto and want incredible modern dishes, warm hospitality, and an unforgettable vibe, Tasco is an absolute must-visit!
