If you are visiting Tabaq, or any other place here, you are coming for the cheap/ decent food and not the ambiance as there isn't much. Located inside the mall, you have to walk past a series of random stores, handful of barbers to get to the food court. There is a decent amount of seating available, but be prepared to wait for a table. Limited sitting for a large family (to sit together). There are several stores offering the same food but Tabaq had the longest line. What I enjoyed was seeing all these women all different ages working, it appeared to be a family business. There was an assembly line to get through the orders quickly. I ordered and received my food fairly quickly. You cat go wrong with a $7.99 nashta. The puri was good. The chick peas were flavourful, the halwa was soft (almost runny) it came paired with raitaa & acchar (pickled mango). The flavour wasn't bad, I didn't find everything to be a little oily, wasn't able to finish it. The chai was good. Overall, for a cheap Pakistani breakfast, I would recommend it! read more

After another lunch option went awry, we were on the hunt for something tasty to eat. We'd heard about this small food court from Suresh Doss, so we figured we'd give it a shot. And it is a small food court. We were initially unsure of where to grab food, but the long lineup in front of Tabaq made it an easy decision. From the time we ordered to the time we started eating, it was around a full half hour. But was it worth it? It sure was. We shared the Mutton Biryani and the Nehari (which is essentially a stew). Both dishes were excellent and way above average. The biryani was among the best versions of that venerable dish I've ever had, as it was just so delicious and spicy. The Nehari was just as good; the sauce was super flavorful, while the lamb (?) was incredibly tender and tasty. I enjoyed the heck out of the two dishes. I don't know if I would recommend coming on a Sunday but even if you do, it's totally worth the wait. read more

This place is hidden within a small plaza and even though it may not look very appetizing, you will not regret a great bite under budget unlike other Kebab places these days especially during an inflation. The Cashier Kept the Receipt for the Nihari Combo I purchased Friday Dec 1, 2023. When I purchased the Nihari Combo, I received only 2 pieces of average size beef meat. The Cashier said to me in Urdu language"Keeya Hona?"(What do you wan't?). I replied "May Receipt Dake Na Charow thah" ( I wanted to see the Receipt) She then pulled the Receipt & kept it with her. They have the most authentic halwa puri breakfast I have had in Canada with the entirety of an authentic Pakistani breakfast experience. Puris are done fresh, chola salan (chickpea gravy) is really simple but very hard to get right but they do a good job on it. Their achaar(pickle) is also pretty similar to what I used to get in Karachi, just missing carrots, it's made in-house unlike other halwa puri places that give store bought Mango pickle. Part of the authentic experience here is also the downside of Pakistani authenticity. Puris are very oily and are given without any paper towels to wipe down the excess oil and no organized way of serving the orders. Yelling "2 chais ready" is unfortunately, as authentic as it gets but it's also very unorganized, next thing you know your chais were scooped by somebody else, also part of the experience lmao. I have been told to avoid this place on Sunday as it gets super busy and there is no place to sit. I have gone there twice on Saturday, roughly around noon and seems to be the sweet spot, no rush but they are still making fresh items. Seriously though, if you can look-over the downsides of an authentic Pakistani experience, the food is worth it. read more

~3.5 stars ~ I been going to Tabaq when they also were try to run a restaurant where now Watan kabab resides. I used to grab the breakfast or have the breakfast buffet from there and then they closed off that location and concentrated on the current one. Grabbed Halwa Puri nastha (breakfast) and I would say it was greasy and good.The meal came with 2 Poori freshly fried, Halwa (Dessert), Aloo curry (Potatos), Channa curry (chickpea), small portion of Achaar (pickle). As for food: The place has bangers nahari and halwa puri. I came here on a visit from America and a friend all the way from New Jersey recommended I go here- and after having eaten it, I can safely say I haven't had something this tasteful anywhere in the tristate area. *3.5 stars* Every few months, I get a hankering for "nashta" - South Asian breakfast. It's unhealthy and cheap, but so satisfying. I came to Tabaq to satisfy today's craving. I've been here a couple times before - it's located in the basement of Newin Centre. This restaurant is easily the busiest in the food court, and I believe today's wait was longer than usual at ~20 minutes. We ordered 2 nasthas + 1 kebab combo - *Poori (deep-fried South Asian bread): You receive 2 per nashta. Tabaq's are less oily than a couple other restaurants so that's a big plus. These were freshly made. *Aloo (potato) and channa (chickpea) curries: Decent *Achaar (pickled veggies/fruits - in this case, onion and mango): Delicious! It's a small food court that's predominantly south asian food with a Korean and Vietnamese spot added in for variety that reflects the surrounding neighbourhood. This restaurant is located in the lower level of Newin Center on Dundas and Hurontario St. The food tastes good here and it is fairly priced. However this is by far the worst service a human being can ever experience. I had the chance to observe the Owner during my visit and I can surely tell you he does not care at all about his customers, rather he tries to sweet talk to avoid the situation. There are exactly 4 older women working in the kitchen and a pregnant lady at the cash counter who is taking orders in person and over the phone, bringing the food from the kitchen to the customers and also servicing the the existing customers who are eating there. There is no organization, structure and process in the entire kitchen. All the employees are all over the place. Here's how my experience took place: I arrived at the restaurant at 5pm and had to stand inline for 20 mins until my turn came up. To keep things simple and hopefully quick, I only ordered chicken tikka combo and Kebab combo (see pictures). I literally waited there until 6pm for them to even start preparing my order. To my understanding they wouldn't have even started if i hadn't complained to the manager. This was my first disappointment. I truly wondered what could possibly take soo long to just grill the chicken and kebab. When I observed how they were preparing my order, bluntly I saw the manager take out the pre cooked chicken and kebab from a container and throw it on the grill to warm up the food. After few mins I was finally served after a 1hr wait. I was anxiously ready to eat my food but after I ate my first bite of the Kebab, the meat was very cold. I had to take it back to the manager and ask him to grill it again. This was extremely disappointing. All I have to say is a good restaurant does not build its reputation on only having good food or cheap prices, they need to care about their customer and give them at least a respectful service. This is located in the Newin Centre Mall Food Court, one of the most unclean environments. If it wasn't for the food, I wouldn't even give a half star rating. The food here is just okay, have it only when you run out of options. The Naans, Parathas and Nihari are good, but other stuff is average or below average. They have combo deals with drink included ranging from $4-$8. Few of the ladies staff is friendly. The service time is always a delay, the ladies there will tell you it's going to be only few minutes but will take a while. I was once told Biryani is ready and after cashing out, I waited for closed to half hour. The worst part is its location, the smell can suffocate you, my wife and I kept changing tables just to avoid the smell the other vendors. It's really not recommended to go with children, it feels like it's infected. Rather take out and eat at home ! It's famous for its Breakfast/ Nashta of Halwa Puri. No doubt it's good and inexpensive as well, like for $4, you get good quantity. If you are going on weekends, there's a big line up and not much place to sit, you will have to bear the smell while you wait for a seat. Make sure to clean your tables before you sit ! Today took me 35 min to recieve my order after 3 times reminding them. I usually come here for the kabab combo ($5.99) which comes with kabab, fries, a small salad, sauce, flatbread, and pop. My experiences are usually decent, until today when I came for lunch. Every time I go to missasaugua/toronto, I have to go to this fast food restaurant. The mall that it is located in is quite dirty, but the food is amazing. It is run by this family that has been working there for years. I've been going here for over a decade. The portions are huge, the food comes out in less than ten minutes, and the flavor is authentic (I am Indian. I believe this family is Pakistani, but I have had my fair share of biriyani at Indian and/or Pakistani restaurants). Service is very nice.
