The Uzbek break was HUGE so listen to your waiter if he suggests half of one. My favorite were the manty large meat dumplings! It comes with a nice tangy sauce and I would definitely order this again. The Uzbek pilaf was good! My friend liked it a lot, I wasn't used to the medium grain type of rice they used. But I could smell the saffron and the veggies/meat in it were very flavorful. Service was wonderful! Very attentive, helpful, kind and gratuity is included. Team Tov is located on the 2nd floor of the diamond district and it can be hard to find. However inside the restaurant, it has big wide windows making it quite easy to see how outside. I ordered their samsa (a pastry dish with meat) and their beef skewer platter. These are some of my favorite central asian foods and Taam Tov was also great for them! The sauce that came with the samsa was quite interesting. It's like a mild spicy tomato sauce. The fries that came with the skewers was great too! read more

I have been coming here for 10 years to buy their stuffed cabbage. The BEST ive ever had, they are always good and relatively healthy- Has very little oil. It's a hole in the wall. There is some thrill to pushing past a diamond district street hustler and ascending a gritty staircase to eat Uzbek food. Unfortunately, the prices here are roughly double what they would need to be for it to be worth turning onto this street and walking up the staircase. This restaurant is really really nice. But hard to find. Tip on how to get there. Walk into Star Diamond Jewelry store go to the back and take the elevator to 3R and the restaurant is right there. Anyways the restaurant is beautiful. There are really nice murals decorating the walls. The waitress was really nice. She even gave me a candle for my piece of cake cause it is my birthday. But there was no one there when we were there not sure if it was cause it was Tuesday night maybe they have a bigger crowd at lunch or later on in the week. But people are really missing out that don't come here. The food was so delicious. And the prices are pretty reasonable. It isn't over priced for a meat restaurant (especially for Manhattan). And they even offer Prime Rib if you are looking for that.. but it is expensive. But besides things like the Prime Rib you can get most entrees here for $20-$30. If you're willing to climb several flights of stairs in a nondescript Diamond District building, you'll be rewarded with huge servings of reasonably priced, delicious Kosher food from Central/Eastern Europe and the Middle East. They clearly do most of their business at lunch with the Orthodox Jewish diamond dealers on the street; at dinner time the restaurant is nearly deserted and they close on the early side (especially given their proximity to the pre-theater crowds in nearby Times Square. The menu makes use of a few simple ingredients, combined and recombined for dishes rarely seen in Manhattan. This is a fleishig (meat) restaurant, so no dairy. They do, however, have vegetarian options. One of my favorite things about this place is that descriptions of the dishes with unfamiliar names don't always tell you anything. Bakhsh is Bukharian rice pilaf, but what ingredients are used, or how it differs from the Uzbek rice pilaf, are not explained. Golubtsy are translated as dolma, but are stuffed cabbage rather than grape leaves. The only difficulty with this restaurant is its upper floor location (3rd? 4th?) The stairs are narrow and steep, and people who work in the building appear to use the stairs and landings as impromptu work spaces, so be ready to pick your way around people and their documents. There is NO ELEVATOR, so people with mobility impairments may not be able to access the restaurant T all, which is disappointing. read more

It was so terrible..It was the first time I went there on a recommendation. I wanted to order one dish, but the waitress said it was better not to eat it today! How is it better not to take it? We recently had lunch at Taam Tov. Luckily we had called and learned where the elevator was, so we didn't have to climb 3 flights of stairs. The food was hot and yummy. We both had the Lagman soup, which was delicious, and shish kabobs - I had chicken and my husband had one beef and one lamb. All were juicy and seasoned well. Came here for dinner before the Massive Attack show last week with the bf. The place was a little hard to find, but once inside, the idea of this eatery being nestled between multiple jewelry stores kind of tugged at my heartstrings, as odd as that sounds. The restaurant adheres to fairly strict Kosher dietary rules, so you can't bring in any outside food or drinks. Once seated, I decided to get a bowl of their veggie soup and an order of their vegetarian manty. The bf got an order of their lamb kebabs with rice, and we also shared an order of their lepeshka. The soup was pretty good, and the lepeshka (which neither of us had ever had before, but I would describe it as looking and tasting kind of like a bagel, but not as dense) went well with it. I absolutely loved my vegetarian manty, though. It was filled with primarily squash, and just a squirt of fresh lemon juice really brought the dish together. The bf was a fan of his skewers. Overall, we had a pretty tasty meal here, and if I ever find myself waiting for another show at Radio City Music Hall again, I'd consider coming back here. read more

Delicious Uzbek (and kosher) food hidden away in midtown. Easily overlooked among the plethora of newer fast casual restaurants in the area, but this spot is legit (and has been around like a decade longer). The entrance is nondescript and is easy to miss even if you're looking for it. You'll have to climb 2 flights of stairs to get to the restaurant and the takeout window, so don't get discouraged if it looks like you're in a random residential / office building. We tried: Manti - These were perhaps my favorite item, both the vegetarian and the meat ones are delicious. The vegetarian ones have a slight hint of sweetness in it (from the squash), while the meat ones have a nice variety of spice and onion and beef so it's not too densely meaty. Samsa - Very similar filling to the manti, but in a flaky pastry. Reminds me of a Chinese meat pie. I prefer the manti because the pastry makes it a more heavy dish compared to the looser dumpling skins. Hummus - Very creamy although had a uniquely nutty taste (didn't seem like just tahini) that I didn't love. Babaganoush - The version here is very lemony and bright in flavor - some of my friends loved it. Unfortunately not for me because I like my babaganoush smokey and heavy on tahini. Lamb shish kebabs - Lamb was tender and quite good, not a super strong lamb flavor, so good if you're not into that. Uzbek Pilaf - Delicious, the carrots are tender and sweet and the rice is flavorful. Falafel - Surprisingly good, I not a falafel connoisseur but I found this version quite enjoyable. read more

This is an absolute gem in the heart of the diamond district. These are a few of my favorite things -- A beef kebab that melts in your mouth easier than cheese in a fondue pot. A meat pastry (manty?) that comes to life in your mouth especially when you drown it in the tangy sauce they serve with it. A very light and refreshing Russian lemon soda drink. A loaf of incredibly crusty bread that I devoured in its entirety all by myself (not my proudest moment). Third floor goodness! I was in NYC visiting the diamond district doing some business when my stomach said, stop buying gems and get food in me. I asked one of the local gem mongers where to get a solid meal in the area, Taam Tov was his response. I found an elevator that risked me away to the third floor where this gem in the gem district was hiding. I had to leave my associate below as we were in some serious negotiations. I was immediately greeted by staff and was whisked away to a lovely table with a view of diamond deals below. My security detail ordered the borscht with Greek side salad and I dined on the mash potatoes and Turkish coffee. Took me back to better days as a young boy running the streets of Istanbul. I would definitely recommend this establishment for anyone looking for a healthy authentic meal! read more

Read an item about Taam Tov in Time Out and, I think, the NYTimes, & it sounded interesting. It's owned by Bukharan Jews, it's kosher (not important for us, but a plus for some in our family), & we'd recently returned from a trip to Israel so have been kinda hooked on falafel & hummus, both of which are on the menu. But so much more! We started with falafel & a very good hummus, with some whole chickpeas as garnish. Asked the server which she'd recommend, the laffa or the Uzbek bread - and the Uzbek bread is to die for! Should have taken a picture, but was too busy eating it, dipping it in the hummus, & just gobbling it up! It's a round, crusty, warm, fresh, bread. It's puffy & round on the perimeter, with a flat indent in the center - almost an overgrown bialy. No onions, though, but sesame seeds. Fabulous. Also had the Israeli salad, very good, not oily. Then we shared the chicken kebab, which was served with our choice of side - we thoroughly enjoyed the steaming heap of kasha that came our way, and the kebabs (on huge skewers, like small swords!) were absolutely seasoned to perfection. I was ready to share a baklava for dessert, but they were out of it - saved me from myself, thank you very much. Had the Turkish coffee, very strong but not at all bitter. I took a full two stars from Taam Tov today because many things had happened since I was there last time, the most important of which was the quality of the food had fallen off a cliff. In the diamond district of Midtown, this little lunch counter use to be the actual diamond in the rough, but has since moved across the street (their old building is now a large hole in the ground) into an expanded dining room, and seemingly concentrated on turning the place from an Uzbek kebab takeout to a sit down Israeli joint. I was looking over the menu when I reached the third floor and the pushy manager must have requested we take a seat at least three times. I was with a vegetarian, so I told him we were just checking to make sure some of the salads and hummus dishes would be adequate for her, but instead of directing us to look at the baba ghanoush or many other vegetarian items on the menu, all we got was "please go inside, there are many tables." We were already set on eating here or the experience might have pushed us away. I guess they get a lot of stray tourists walking up the three flights in curiosity and try to get them into tables before they change their mind, but I told the manager to calm down and stop rushing us. The problem with Midtown is that there just are not a lot of good options, and I knew from a couple years ago that this place had excellent food. Unfortunately I will stop recommending it with such vigor to those around Times Square, probably just mentioning its existence when someone needs a quick lunch tip in the area instead. As stated before, the Uzbek style of the meal here has been all but lost except for the appearance on the menu of things like lagman (a common soup) and lepeshka, the bread that highlights a good Uzbek meal. The kebabs are still good, and go for around $12-13 for two with a side dish. Ordering them a la carte also used to be possible but seems to be out of the question now. Paired with a half-loaf of lepeshka ($2), the baba ghanoush ($5, small order) is actually quite good, stinging of garlic in every bite. The only downside is that the eggplant is diced up so fine that you hardly notice it. I could not remember ever ordering the Uzbek pilaf ($10) so I decided to give it a try. I should have known I would not like it simply for the fact they spelled it this way instead of "plov." It came out so quickly that even before chewing yesterday's rice I could tell that the thing had been microwaved, especially since my plate was warm. The carrots were lifeless and the meat was mostly fat, I guess what they meant by the word "juicy" on the menu. I will certainly still come here for a lunch when in the area of Times Square, but I've learned my lesson and will stick with the kebabs. It's a shame that this gem has decided to lose its Uzbek roots and sharpen its image, all for the worse in my opinion. Taam Tov is a solid lunch place for midtown lunch, particularly for the Diamond District. It can be confusing to find because its not on the ground floor and the signage is poor. The items are individually inexpensive, but not large portions, so you'll end up with either lots of variety and an average all-in price or a more modest meal. The service is not particularly fast, so not a great choice if you're hurrying back to work; it's a better fit when there's no rush. Two things to note here. The food is Bukharian and ethnic, so there some new & unique tastes on the menu you won't get anywhere else. Also, one of the few places that has good prices and available room to sit down in a restaurant (as opposed to the more common cafeteria approach). I used to eat in this area more. Unfortunately, a number of places have closed down. I loved Diamond Dairy, which made wonderful latkes and pierogies, and I really miss it. A few years back, a friend of mine introduced me to a Kosher Uzbek restaurant, which has also closed down. Last week, I had lunch with a friend who keeps Kosher. On a lark, I did a Yelp search for Kosher Uzbek, and I found this place. I'm glad I did. We started out with samsas, which are pastries filled with meat and onions. The meat inside was juicy and tasted wonderful. My friend and I then shared an Uzbek rice pilaf, with beef and veggies. The dish was large and easily shared by two people, and very filling. We also ordered a side of bread, which was freshly baked and wonderful. The only bad thing I can say is that we really loaded up on the carbs. I was so full that I skipped dinner, which isn't a complaint. We finished off with a Turkish coffee and a pareve (no dairy) cake. I'm used to Turkish coffee being more "muddy," but this was pretty good. The cake was nice as well. I saw lagman, an Uzbek meat soup, on the menu. I've had this soup before at the previous restaurant, and it is wonderful. One day I have to try the lagman at this place. One note: since this place is Kosher and serves meat, there is no dairy here. I noticed that they also served Chinese food here. I didn't try it, so I don't know if it is good or bad. All-in-all, my friend and I had a great experience here. If you are curious about what Uzbek cuisine is like, and you don't want to go out to Queens (I have read that there are some great Kosher Uzbek restaurants in Queens), this is a great place to visit. read more

I dont live in New York anymore but I have been here three times in the last 6 years. I am surprised that its still open as I did not know that there would be such a demand for Uzbek food in New York. It feels like I am eating in someone's dining room in Forest Hills. My attitude is if I am already going exotic, why ask what the food is ? It's more of an adventure that way, eh ?n If you are here, be prepared to eat bread followed by more bread and some uzbek bread. WOW carb heave No polka playing acordian band will greet you upon ordering the Karcho Soup. I had a neighbor in brooklyn whose wife was from Uzbekistan and she used to put turkey balls in the soup. It looked like Matza balls but stuffed inside was smushed pieces of Turkey. I did not experience this delight here. I usually order the avocado salad if I am here because at least I know what it is. Also reccomended is the three lamb chops for $24 before taxes which is a steal in Midtown. read more

The food is mediocre and the prices are high, but what really stands out, in a negative way, are the underhanded business practices of this establishment. They apply a surcharge for using credit cards, which you only find out about after you pay your bill. They add a 20% gratuity, regardless of party size, without advising you in advance or giving you any choice in the matter. On top of all that, they attempted to charge me extra for an item that should've been included with my order, and rescinded it only partially when I protested. Never again. read more

From the moment we called the I knew this place wasn't going to be good. The guy on the phone was rude nasty and in a rush even though I placed a 360$ order. Every time I asked a question, he was just in a rush to hang up the phone. I asked for ethnic sauces but instead they gave me a bunch of ketchup. None of the orders were labeled. We had vegetarians and couldn't figure out which soup was which. They also didn't include one of our entrees. And the food... the food was the worst. The sambsa had cartilage inside instead of meat. The 36$ steak was the worst steak I had in my life. It was so chewy and rubbery I couldn't even swallow it. I had to spit multiple pieces out. It was just terrible. My coworkers all had the same feeling about the food. I wouldn't give the homeless guy outside my building the steak I just had. However, their diet Snapple was pretty good. read more
