Ordered the steak Burrito and Steak Taco. Pleasant surprise. Taco was filled to the gills with steak and lettuce, tomato, cheese, and cilantro. Burrito was decent sized. Wife had the Steak taco and Beef Tamale. Well flavored. The service was quick. Food came out in a reasonable time. Ordered small chips and Salsa. Salsa was awesome. We ate it there. Saturday evening. DISCRIMINATION I am allergic to flour and two corn so I cannot eat tortillas so for the last many many months I have gone in and said, can I please have two steak tacos on a plate with cilantro and tomato with lime. I'm sorry. The online menu (for pick up) allows you to say yes/no to EVERYTHING that can be in a dish. I am SEVERELY lactose intolerant, so I always say "no" to cheese and sour cream. Any OTHER Mexican restaurant acknowledges that, but Ta Canijo TAKES my order, TAKES my money, and then GIVES me food full of (guess what?) cheese and sour cream. When I brought this to the cashiers attention she blamed it on lack of knowledge but made no effort to correct the price or even offer an apology (Please see both receipt and menu board pics). This is one of several food businesses inside the Food N Fuel gas station; the other restaurants have outdoor signage but the taqueria doesn't, for some reason. Seating is shared among the businesses. Folks from one of the nearby businesses said the tacos were good, and they were right. The counter is designed to look like it's a taco truck, so you can't miss it. I got a couple of tacos; a churro (fresh made!), an elote and an agua fresca. The tacos were fine but not outstanding; salsa is good and assertive - might get it on the side next time. The strawberry agua fresca ("real fruit and real sugar") was awfully sweet but tasty; the churro, fresh, just a little crusty and very nice; and the elote OK (plenty of cheese and mayonnaise; the corn might be canned). They also do quesadillas and tamales (just chicken, at least the day I was there). There were people waiting for food when I got there, but they got everyone's order pretty fast, even my custom tacos (beans, no meat). If you're vegetarian, apparently there's no lard in the beans and no chicken stock in the rice. Tasty; quick; inexpensive. Not the best Mexican I've ever had but it was pretty good, and it sure beats driving two exits down to go to Taco Burrito King. This is meant for the Joliet location. I have eaten here several times and loved it! That is why this review got 2 stars. Based on my meal tonight, I would give it a negative star rating. My tacos were horrible and the meat was burnt, crunchy and not edible. I also learned if you order tacos, they are put on a paper plate and then aluminum foil is pressed down firmly around the plate. This causes and toppings ( cheese, sour cream, etc. ) to stick to the foil. So now your forced to scrape your taco meat and toppings off the foil. I am so disappointed and dissatisfied. At stop light turn left, go 2 miles to Food & Fuel Truck Stop. Inside is burrito place, barbecue restaurant, and Dunkin Donuts. Burritos until 2200 except Sunday. Also if you go past auto track raceway toward Route 53 there is small truck stop with Italian Beef and chili cheese fries across from Pilot truck stop. I didn't know this is a chain, I am talking about the 394 Sauk Village spot inside the big truck stop.There is also Duncan's and and a Pop's beef inside. I like going here for the tacos, the taste of the tacos are good. But the customer service is absolute TRASH. I asked for a taco with everything on it & this is what I got. A tortilla with some meat. It was supposed to have lettuce, tomato, cilantro & cheese. The employees are all young & not polite. They're not super rude, but they're definitely not polite. They rush you when you're ordering at the drive thru window, they've gotten my order wrong multiple times, & I'm fed up with it. Why rush someone if you're gonna get the order wrong? Even though the tacos are good, I won't put up with trash customer service so I'm just gonna find somewhere else to get tacos from now on. Definitely would not recommend unless you wanna repeat your order several times, then correct them about it once you receive your order. This isn't the first time I've experienced this either with this place; if it was, I wouldn't have them more chances. This is literally a back to back to back thing with this restaurant. This is a great, authentic, Mexican Taco restaurant, within a Center Point truck stop. The food is prepared quickly and is tasty, for sure. The 'meals' include beans and rice and a drink. That's pretty much a real bargain, and the beans and rice are a great accompaniment to your tacos. (and you can have your tacos ANYWAY you want them!)
