I cannot say enough good things about the taste and quality of the food. In a one horse town like this where we literally only have four whole restaurants, La Pasadita more than makes up for that. Almost makes me like Elwood lol. But even if I didn't live in Elwood I would happily make the drive to this place. It's THAT good. I'll be honest it doesn't look like much from outside; it's a small place. But do not judge a book by its cover! The only thing is it's not open on weekends but that's so the workers can be with their families so you really can't blame them for that. They're also very nice too. I can honestly say I go here at least once a week sometimes more and will keep doing so!

When we arrived, they had seating ready for us with chips and salsa and quickly took our drink and food orders. No sooner did we put in our food that the first orders started coming out. I highly recommend this restaurant.

If you want little cubes of pork, don't go here. This is the real deal, pork, fat and skin cooked slowly. Flavor bomb. Nance, our server, took great care of us and we will always come back, bring friends and talk it up as not just a great Mexican restaurant but a great restaurant overall. It is not some all show and no go place. Ambiance is plain, but clean and spacious. Salsas are authentic with good heat. Small menu, but care taken with their product. If I could give a Michelin Star for the quality and care taken with the food, I would.

This is a no-frills, mom-and-pop type taco place that is pretty humble and possesses little to no ambiance, but I have always maintained that the best Mexican food does not come from a high end type restaurants with incredible ambiance, but rather the best Mexican food comes from these little hole-in-the-wall type joints. Taqueria El Zarape just reinforces this long-standing theory of mine. Taqueria El Zarape offers a great menu, but I went with the tacos and the tacos were definitely a great choice here at Taqueria El Zarape. The tacos are definitely stellar and something that I would definitely recommend. All in all, Taqueria El Zarape is a great choice if you are in Joliet, Illinois and are in the mood for Mexican food. If you do go and are a fan of tacos, you cannot go wrong with the tacos here.
