The store being reviewed here is the second type. I would recommend not doing business with this store. I'll tell you what happened to me, and you can decide if this store is ripping people off. I lost my phone and bought a similar replacement, but it did not include a sim card. I called Verizon support for help. They said I could go to a corporate store nearby, and get a sim card for free, or I could go to another closer store and get it for around $10. Pressed for time, I decided to go to the closer store and just pay the $10. When I got there, I told the person helping me I needed a sim card and showed him the phone. He told me the sim card would be $10, plus $40 for activation. I asked him if I could just take the sim card, go home and put it in (which anyone can do in about 2 minutes), could I activate it from my online account? He said no. I asked him if I went to the Corporate store and got the sim card for free, would they still charge me $40 for activation? He said yes, I have to pay $40 for activation no matter what I do. I said OK, well do it, and paid $53 on a credit card. I went home and did an online inquiry about this. The answer was - if its adding a replacement phone on an existing line, no activation is needed, just put the sim card in the phone and you are good to go. I called Verizon support and they told me the same thing. When I told them what happened, they said they could not refund the credit card, but would deduct the $40 from my next bill. A short time later, I was reviewing my emails, and saw the receipt from the Verizon store. Here is what the $39.99 line item description said: "OTFENS000031 Set Up and Go Service Smartphone 1 $39.99 $39.99". OK, not "Activation". It appears they are charging $39.99 for putting the sim card in the phone, and telling people it's "Activation". Like I said, anyone can put the sim card in a couple of minutes. My 3 year old granddaughter could probably do it with a little help.

Misleading Promises, Policy Changes, and Poor Management - Beware!…read more I recently purchased a screen protector from AT&T, which clearly advertised a $10 lifetime replacement policy that was supposed to be redeemable either in-store or online. When I tried to use the in-store option as advertised, I was told by the representative, Parth P., that AT&T had changed their policy and could only process replacements online, requiring me to register, wait for shipping, and then come back to the store to have it installed. This directly contradicts the "in-store or online" promise on the packaging. When I pointed out that this policy change should not apply retroactively to my purchase, Parth P. claimed that the change was outside their control and argued that there was no formal contract, so they could alter the terms at any time. Despite admitting that the policy changed after I purchased the product, he refused to honor the original terms. To make matters worse, the current packaging still advertises the in-store or online options, misleading future customers as well. This is clearly a contract: I made the purchase based on specific terms advertised by AT&T, which influenced my decision. A retroactive change is a breach of that agreement, and it's deceptive to shift the terms after the sale has been made. The experience was further worsened by the handling of the manager situation. I was initially told by Parth P. that no manager would be available until 2 PM (over 90 minutes later). However, just after 1 PM, they suddenly offered to get the manager and asked me to wait 15 minutes. When the manager finally arrived, he admitted he had no idea that I had been requesting to speak with him for nearly an hour. This back-and-forth and lack of communication only added to my frustration. This wasn't the first time I was misled by AT&T. Parth P. also promised me $80 off my bill if I added DirecTV and claimed he could apply a discount I wasn't eligible for. Of course, that discount was removed after just one month, despite his assurances. When I brought these issues up, I was met with sarcasm, excuses, and dismissiveness from the store's manager, who focused more on defending the changes than resolving the issue. At the conclusion of all this, they attempted to offer me a discount on future bills because I am a member of AAA. They went through a lengthy process of adding my AAA account to my plan, during which I questioned why the form they were showing me said "business." An hour later, I found out this discount was denied because it only applied to employees of AAA, which I never indicated I was. This is further evidence of how AT&T continues to mislead their customers. It seems clear that this is a case of false advertising or fraud, which should be addressed either through a class action suit against AT&T or by filing a complaint with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, part of the Office of the Attorney General. If you're considering a purchase from AT&T, be cautious--they may not honor what they originally promised, and customer service seems more focused on dodging responsibility than actually helping. I arrived about 20 minutes before closing and wanted to try on a few items in the fitting room before making a purchase. When I asked to use the fitting room, the sales associate--who I later realized was the manager--responded in a way that felt rude and unnecessary. She told me that I was limited to six items, not to leave a mess, and that the store closes at 8. While I understand store policies and closing times, the way it was communicated felt dismissive and accusatory. I had just come from the gym and was dressed casually, and I couldn't help but feel that assumptions were made about me based on my appearance, as if I were going to leave a mess in the fitting room. As a frequent Nike shopper, I found this interaction disappointing and unwelcoming. To make matters worse, when I went to check out, the same manager switched places with another associate so she wouldn't have to assist me at the register. I've always had positive experiences shopping with Nike, which is why this stood out so much. First off, I can see why Daiquan got so many personal mentions on Google- he really is so friendly, knowledgeable, and professional! I wish all Verizon customer representatives were like Daiquan over the phone too. Because the previous homeowner also had Fios, I was able to leave that day with a router and self-install it that evening. I was in and out within an hour, even with Daiquan helping out 3 other customers while I was there filling out information on my phone.
