Based on that information, I trusted him. Unfortunately, the issue was never actually fixed. I was charged nearly $500, including a new part that I later learned was not needed, and the original problem continued afterward. When I reached back out to Mr. Sexton to explain that the issue was still occurring and when he could come back out, I did not receive a response. Despite multiple attempts to follow up, I was left without support. Because the repair was incomplete, I was forced to remain on emergency heat during a snowstorm while trying to find another HVAC company. This caused my electric bill to increase to nearly $800 over a two-month period. I also never received an explanation as to why Mr. Sexton did not return to finish the job or address the ongoing problem. I don't believe there was bad intent initially, but the lack of follow-up, accountability, and resolution made this a costly and stressful experience. I called three companies, including American Family (AF), and two of them came in at a much higher cost. I decided to use AF not because of the price difference but because of dealing with Erica. Erica answered all my questions, even the dumb ones, and made me feel comfortable to ultimately pick AF. Erica gave me an estimate over the phone and said Paul would come out the next day. The price quoted on the phone was spot on and I didn't pay a dime extra. Paul came out the next day to look at my HVAC to ensure he would have everything he needed to start the job. Paul explained everything he was going to do while educating me on my own setup. On the day of the installation, Paul was on time and had a surprise for me. The gas furnace I was supposed to have installed wasn't in stock and I was scheduled for installation the next day. Paul managed to get an upgraded furnace at no cost due to the mix-up. A less reputable company could have kept the upgraded unit, made a quick buck, and rescheduled my appointment. Paul completed the job quickly, efficiently, and didn't waste time. The HVAC system has been working great and is much better than the one I had before. I plan on using AF again for any HVAC issues that may creep up. Had them give me a quote on another system for our barn during covid but ultimately went with another vendor quote (and that system has been problem free). Called today to see if I could get service on one of the compressors they sold us and apparently they are blocking my phone # (my wife's phone was able to get through). Very odd behavior. Apparently we are close enough to sell AC systems but they don't want to service us or they are butt hurt that I didn't accept last quote. You have been warned. Comment on the response: Erica's response doesn't make sense - they show service to the area on the website, they have never raised any issue of "safety" at our house and doesn't excuse blocking the number of a customer who has always been polite and paid bills promptly.

The pressure tactics were extreme, and my mother, who is elderly and easily overwhelmed, felt intimidated into putting down a large deposit. I later learned the technician had not performed proper diagnostic steps, including a required pressure test, before claiming a leak. When I requested a second opinion, another HVAC company verified with documented testing that there was no leak at all and the system was functioning normally. They could not reproduce any of the issues claimed by the first company. Based on this experience, it appears this company attempted to mislead and financially exploit an elderly customer into purchasing an unnecessary replacement system. I cannot recommend this company and believe their business practices warrant investigation.
