Ed's Plant World is exactly what a local nursery should be. I called ahead to check on availability…read moreand they actually walked into the greenhouse to look for me. That kind of service is rare. When I arrived, a kind woman answered all my questions and walked me over to find exactly what I was looking for instead of just pointing me in the right direction. After I paid, a young man walked me to my car and loaded my plants neatly with a bag to keep everything clean. What meant the most to me as someone starting their very first garden is that no one made me feel silly for being a beginner. They were patient, encouraging, and genuinely helpful. That kind of welcoming environment makes all the difference when you're just learning. I will absolutely be back. Highly recommend to anyone, especially first time gardeners looking for a place that truly cares about its customers.

The only place to get plants!…read more I have been purchasing Christmas trees from Ed's Plant World for years now. They make it quick, easy, and convenient. They're also incredibly informative and helpful. I recently purchased some herbs from Ed's and their team meets you at the entrance to try to guide and assist you. It's a nice touch. Once you move on to the area where the herbs are, other folks will assist you there as well. Additionally, the selection of herbs is superior and more varied than what you'd find in the nearby home stores. Ed's also carries a ton of flowers - fortunately they are around to answer questions because the selection can be overwhelming. Bottom line: there is no better place in the area for landscape that beats Ed's. Even for Christmas trees or herbs.

Ventured here today looking for some fresh fruits and vegetables…read more Was happy with the selection for today. Picked up some yummy fruits and veggies. Was excited to see seeded watermelons and seeded grapes! We also grabbed some jelly's and apple butter. The Apple Butter took me back to Sunday mornings breakfast at Grandmas. The bakery side had a variety of yummy treats from doughnuts, pies, cookies and cakes. Definitely grabbed a few for later. The Apple Pie ice cream my hunnie ordered was delicious. Tasted just like Apple Pie. Looking forward to our next adventure here already.

The woman who checked us out was an absolute delight, warm, funny, and exactly what you hope for at a local farm stand. Unfortunately my experience in the herb section was the opposite. When I asked about strawberry plants and was told they didn't have any, I mentioned I was a first time gardener and asked if she could recommend something beginner friendly. Her response was essentially "just pick something, all you have to do is water them." When I explained again that I was new and looking for guidance, she told me she couldn't help me. As a first time gardener trying to learn, that kind of dismissiveness was discouraging. If it weren't for the lovely woman at checkout, I likely wouldn't return. I ended up going to Ed's Plant World in Brandywine where the staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely helpful to a beginner. The difference was night and day. That said, I'm giving 4 stars because the place is really awesome in terms of selection and variety. The woman in the herb section may have just been having a bad day. It's absolutely worth checking out.

They have…read moreGORGEOUS plants and the price is right - $10 for a quart and $15 for a gallon size plant, which is an amazing value for native species. Planting in the fall is the right time, so you want to shop now - they are open through the end of October. The staff is incredibly helpful as well - they will help you pick plants that will thrive based on your soil and sun/shade conditions. Need a workhorse for your flower bed? Get the goldenrod or sneezeweed - trust me! Love this nursery

We moved into a house last summer and first on my list was handling the yard. The backyard had a…read morelot of bamboo, and throughout the first summer and fall it spread significantly. We attempted to remove some ourselves but were quickly overwhelmed by the task. I researched native plant landscapers and came across Swamp Rose Co-op. After reaching out, Jeff, one of the owners, came to do a site visit. He was thorough in his presentation of plans and this February we had them come and do bamboo removal and plant some native trees and shrubs to act as a privacy screen. The Swamp Rose team was amazing! They pulled out over 2 tons of bamboo and roots! They planted native trees and shrubs which are thriving. Our backyard woodland meadow dreams are coming true. We have the team coming back in a few weeks to rip out the standard plants seen in the Silver Spring area (liriope, lilies, weeds) to replace with a native garden and we can't wait. One of my favorite aspects of this company is it is a co-op. The employees can be owners, and those who aren't are still paid a living wage as calculated by the MIT living wage calculator. They do excellent work! It is hard to find a native landscaper but this team is fantastic.

I am in no way connected with this outfit. In fact I had a GPS guided tour of Maryland on…read more"Accokeek Road West" until I figured out that Deakin's Pond Wholesale Nursery is located on an entirely different road -- "Accokeek Road" about two miles away from "Accokeek Road West". With that out of the way, I purchased nine 4' to 5' Skip Laurel plants on 6/17/2019. The plants appear remarkably healthy as well as properly cared for & handled. The nursery men helped me load my pickup and wrap protection around the plants for the 20 mile journey the plants' new home. AFAIK Deakin's Pond Wholesale Nursery has no facility or interest in tying nursery stock to the roof of a customer's car. One thing to bear in mind is that nothing living likes being transplanted. Plant immediately, at a proper depth in a hole larger than the root ball. Water thoroughly (don't flood, instead ration water two or three times a day to keep the ground moist) for the first few weeks. The Deakin's Pond Wholesale Nursery stock looks waaaay better than what you'd find at a hardware store or big box store -- they are a professional *wholesale* nursery and clearly cater to professional landscapers who know good stock and know how to transport, transplant and care for the transplanted plants. Don't expect gardening tips and horticultural hand-holding. The staff is friendly, efficient and welcoming but you are quite reasonably expected to know what you are doing. If you know what you want and how to properly manage the transplanting process, Deakin's Pond Wholesale Nursery (and their successor) is an excellent choice.
