Let me start this review by saying, please read the owner's responses to bad reviews; they are filled with excuses, no apologies, and reflect horrible customer service - that is exactly how my experience was. **This review is regarding the owner of Synergy and Mia S. (who specializes in ethnic hair), not Mia O., who is the sweetest person and always has her hair colored in a fun way!** My mother, extended family, and I have been coming to Synergy for years when Jo was a stylist. I never had a negative experience. Forgive me for not knowing the name of the gentleman at the front desk with short, blonde curly hair; he has always been professional, helpful, and friendly. Life happened to Jo, and she had to step away from doing hair to focus on her schooling and health. Before that, we would go to the salon for her services or request a house call. She is taking September off and referred me to Mia (her former colleague at Synergy) until she returns in October. I texted Mia S. and booked an appointment for Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. I arrived at Synergy at 2:45 p.m. and was greeted by the above gentleman. He informed Mia S. of my arrival, offered me beverages, and told me she was finishing up a client. I sat on the couch near the stars (the main sitting area next to the front desk and stylists). I waited until 3:30 p.m., 45 minutes past my appointment time, and was in disbelief at the lack of time management, professionalism, and urgency I witnessed from Mia S. Not once did she text me before my arrival to let me know she was running behind or speak to me to let me know when she would be with me. I understand waiting 10 - 15 minutes, but 45 minutes? No. I decided that this would not be my interim stylist and got up to leave. There was no one at the front desk, which is fine. I decided to call the salon to inform them that I left because I had been waiting for 45 minutes, and Mia seemed in no hurry to get to me. I spoke to someone I thought was named Susan, but apparently, the owner's name is Stacy. When she did not apologize and was dismissive, I asked if I could speak to the owner, and she informed me that she was the owner. She did not apologize or show empathy for the situation or my regard for my time. She accused me of not even being in the salon, claiming that she had been sitting in the front the whole time and I wasn't there. It was only when I told her that I was sitting on the couch in the waiting area, where a man dressed in neon yellow bicycle gear was selling products to the stylist, that she said, Well, sorry, we were in the back eating lunch, we haven't eaten all day. That was the FIRST and only time she apologized during our conversation, and it wasn't an apology directed at me; it was a passive-aggressive comment that somehow implied that I was insensitive that she had not eaten all day when the salon had been dead the past 45-minutes. Stacy missed the mark; I wasn't upset at the front desk; I was upset at my experience with Mia S. When I voiced that, she said they are all independent contractors. I told her, Yes, they are, but it's your name on the salon, and you're the one who gets the bad reviews. In Summary: If you value your time, avoid Mia S. If you value your sanity, avoid Susan/Stacy and this salon. read more

Alex has been doing my hair for 16 years. He always does an amazing job and keeps me up with the latest colors. He also helps keep it healthy and cuts the dead ends off. I'm always receiving compliments about my hair and it's thanks to him. Covid19 shut down post appointment: Made an appointment with Alex for Friday the 12th @3pm. When I arrived at the salon. I waited outside with a mask on. Alex greeted me at the door. He then took my temp. and they have a hand sanitizer station. So I got some of that. Then he gave me a robe. We went to his station and he explained the rules. Need to be escorted around by your stylist and must practice social distancing. Alex did my foils with color and we went outside to the patio area to get some fresh air. There we social distance and hung out while my color set in. When it was time to wash we still social distanced from other clients. Then he did a 2.5 inch cut to get my hair back to healthy. Also styled it with a curling iron. I was out by 5 pm. Kellie is the queen of color !!!! I used to get my hair cut by her when I lived in OC but have been in Arizona for a few years now and recently decided to get my first dye job. I asked a stylist out here to give be a "sun lightened look that brought out the natural red tones in my hair" and ended up as a streaky blonde (1st set of photos). I was devastated and was planning to visit California sometime soon but when I called Kellie she told me that she could fit me in for the coming weekend and I flew back right away. Not only did she fix everything I hated about the highlights but she gave me exactly what I wanted from the very beginning. I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER WITH HOW MY HAIR TURNED OUT. Salon was clean, everyone in masks and great spacing to prevent spread of covid19. This was my 1st cut/color since Jan 2020 and I was concerned about cleanliness of going to any salon but not after visiting this business. They really made me feel safe and that they care for there clients. Rima was my stylist today and she is fabulous. She listens to your needs and provides great after-service direction for upkeep. The cut and color turned out better than I had hoped for. She made great recommendations on shampoo and conditioner that I purchased and I feel comfortable with it. I'll definitely be back to see Rima. Give her a visit. While I didn't use the services today, I could see the offered nail services. Kelly Lang for life! Before I found Kelly I would go months without a haircut. Painfully skittish around hairstylists, I'd experienced a number of hair mishaps (carrot orange pixie cut, anyone?) that had me contemplating a future of dry, dead split ends a la Crystal Gayle because of the anxiety over making an appointment, even for a trim. And then I found Kelly. A passionate and attentive stylist, Kelly's consultations are the best I've ever experienced. She listens. I mean, really LISTENS. She's extremely attentive and knowledgable which immediately relaxes even the most tense client possible (me). Her attention to detail is like none other. I have blunt bangs and a cowlick in my bang line. Kelly is the only stylist to master my cowlick and my fringe is impeccable every time. EVERY time. Not every other. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Women with bangs, you know how rare that is! I wear my hair long and often go back and forth between layers and no layers. Regardless, my hair is cut with precision every time. I always receive compliments! Kelly is also a master of hair extensions. I wore U tip extensions for two years and LOVED them. Sadly, they're outta my budget at the moment but I absolutely loved my extensions. Kelly has such an incredible technique in application and removal. My bonds stayed tight and I could keep them for 4 to 4 and a half months at a time before having them redone. My hair grows super fast so 4 months is GREAT. The removal process was painless. Even when I had to give them up my hair was still healthy, all thanks to Kelly's advice and education on how to manage my long, luxurious hair. I seriously cannot say enough good things about her. (Sigh)... So I really wanted to love this place sadly it did NOT happen. My sister came here to get an up-do and the girl did a decent job. So I decide let's try and see what they can do with color. I was a bit desperate to find a hairstylist that was inexpensive yet reasonable and gave me what I wanted for what I paid. I called to set up an appointment during working hours and no answer? Left a voice mail and set up an appointment for a consultation. During my consultation I let the stylist know I'm looking to go drastic. Either brunette (b/c I was done searching for the stylist that could achieve my idea of a perfect blond) or the blond of my dreams which another stylist across from her had... I asked "can you give me that color? If not please make me a brunette." she fed me what I wanted to hear, "yes I can give you that color." A couple hours later I got a color that was NOT what I asked. My hair looked okay but had she been honest and told me that I would not look like THAT color I wanted, I wouldn't have been so disappointed. I love coming here. I always go to Jenn Szots when I come in. She's lively, energetic, and she's amazing at what she does. She listens to you and gives you exactly what you need - and will provide her expert opinion if you'd like her to do so. Her station is always decorated and she has such a positive energy about her. You find time moving quickly because you're having so much fun! The salon is fairly large, and each hairstylist rents out their own station. I've never been one to shy away from a haircut. It grows back, and for me it grows back fast. So I'm always up for something new, and Alex always gives it to me. That being said, the ONLY time I have consistently, over and over and over, gotten tons of compliments from total strangers on my hair was when Alex gave me a nice, modern, clean bob. And here I am thinking, it's a bob, no big deal. No, EVERYONE was always coming up to me telling me how great my hair looked. Needless to say, I've asked for that same cut quite a few times. I have been going to this salon for around 2 years and I always get huge compliments on my hair color and cut. I've heard rave reviews of this place since the salon's opening, as a near and dear friend of mine became a regular of the salon's owner, Floyd. I have to say, I was jealous of the cool cuts he'd shape on Nikki's head, and I don't blame her for waiting until she's in CA again (she lives in NYC-area right now) just so she can get a trim from Floyd. Getting a cut there never really crossed my mind, seeing that it's in my equivalent of BFE (READ: the City of Orange) and I was happy with my stylist at the time. But I started growing my hair out and recently had my hair the longest it's ever been in my life, and I was killing some time hanging out with aforementioned friend around OC. She literally got a cut straight from the airport on this trip, and Floyd complained that she's not giving him a challenge. "I'll give him a challenge!" I told her, and next thing I know I was fit into a 1 o' clock appointment. The salon is in the most unassuming strip mall, but the interior has this edgy, industrial-like look with several stations in the lower level, and the upper level where other salon magic happens (of which I am unsure). Reception is very nice, and you're offered water or iced tea when you're waiting with a mountain of cool magazines to look at while you're waiting for your appointment. It wasn't long before Floyd warmly greeted me and sat me in his station, and I laid out my challenge: I wanted to keep the length, but cut the dead ends and give it a better shape, and fix the bangs. I explained to him I'm typically a short hair girl, so having long hair is the typical girls' short hair cut. He then started telling me about how much he LOVES doing short cuts and that it's his specialty. I stood my ground...but not for long. I've been itching for a crop and he knew it, and we found a zine with a nice little number and he went to work. The result was amazing - Floyd and I argued who enjoyed the cut more and said I need to move to OC and we'd get an apartment together and live like the Odd Couple so we can maintain the cut! It was probably the best cut I've had in a few years. My mom even liked it (that in itself speaks LEAGUES)! Price for a cut was decent but worth it, and I figured it would be well worth another cut to keep looking that good. I wait a little longer than usual to get a trim (we are still talking about SGV girl going into the heart of OC), and I get my cut in his other salon - one geared towards kids where every station has a screen where the client can watch a DVD, play Xbox or PS2. I opt to just chat him up and catch up on things. I loved the first haircut, but I asked him to cut it a certain way. Instead, he basically did the COMPLETE opposite, save the fact that he actually cut my hair. Now I'm one who actually likes changing things up from time to time, but when I want my hair cut in a particular way, you better damn well cut it that way (especially my bangs, a stylist's fate with me rests in their skill with working the bangs). So why the four stars? Because Floyd and the salon(s) are still awesome. He's very talented, and I can't say I won't ever go to him again. If you want to change things up and look good doing it (particularly if you want a short cut), come see Floyd. read more

On Saturday, I decided to get a last minute hair cut. I called around just hoping there would be a place that had an opening. I found synergy on yelp and trusted the reviews. Suprisingly, to my luck, they had an opening at such last minute notice. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. She said that there was an available stylist if I was to come in right away. I wanted to confirm that the stylist would honor the yelp deal, so the receptionist was friendly enough to fin out for me. When I got to the salon, it was very nice and clean. I went up to the front desk and the receptionist was very friendly, offered me a drink, then guided me to meet my stylist. Great customer service! as for my haircut, I love it! My stylist, Caitlin was very attentive to what I wanted and always made sure to ask me before she started her work. She took her time on her work which is important to me because the last haircut I got, the lady totally messed up. Anyways, I have always had long hair, but decided to go short for a change. She understood and was always asking to make sure I got what I wanted. Caitlin was very nice and a good conversationalist, she informed me of several suggestions to do with my hair. I've been going to this salon since it first opened, almost four years ago. It just so happened that I was referred to it's owner, Floyd, by a friend at work back when he was just setting up shop. Floyd is great. He's a nice guy who will talk to you about what you want and what he thinks will work with your hair type. He LOVES to do short, spunky haircuts, but he also does incredibly awesome long haircuts. The best part about him is that he cuts your hair to go with your face. The not so best part about him is that he sometimes gets in this weird mode where a cut will just magically take shape and it will look good, but it won't be exactly what you asked for. His prices are a bit steep, but nowhere near as much as those fancy schmancy salons up in LA. And I know I can trust him enough to sit and close my eyes and let him make me look good. I'd recommend him to anyone who has an idea of what they want, but not an exact picture. I guarantee you'll walk out looking good, but it might not be exactly what you were thinking of. As for the salon, I watched it grow over the last four years. It's full service, with manicures and everything. It's got a funky vibe to it and everyone who works there is nice and not at all snobby. He's also got another salon next door for the younger crowd. Every station has either an Xbox or a PS2 and you can watch movies or play video games while getting your hair done. It's supposed to be for the kiddies, but anyone can go there. (I went there this morning and watched You, Me and Dupree while getting my haircut. The neat part about knowing the owner is that we also had the entire place to ourselves, since the salon wasn't technically open yet for the day.) They also give you free candy and there's a quarter arcade upstairs with some great games like Ms. Pac-man and Galaga. read more

I love Salon Synergy. They have the best stylists I have ever come across in all of Orange County. The atmosphere is very eclectic, lots of positive energy emulates through the building. The Salon is a two story structure, with an ajoining salon called Attitudes, making Salon Synergy one of the largest salons I have ever been to. The stylists for the most part are very experienced and skilled at what they do. Floyd (the owner), Stacy Mason, and Debbie are among my favorites. Kelly is very good at up-do's. She has very creative designs yet, classic and sexy. They do wonderful things with hair and are very accomadable. All four stylists are also great people, very personable. They also work almost every day of the week, so if you have a tight schedule you are sure to get an appointment that works for you. There are also other stylists that specialize in Extensions, and braids. Just ask the receptionist and she will hook you up with someone that will satisfy your needs. Other staff includes a Massage Therapist, Osthetician, Make Up Artists, and Nail Salon technicians. Synergy also sells their own line of hair care products, at a very affordable price, as well as jewlery, hand bags, and other accessories. Art work is also available for sale, decorating the walls of the salon, and made by local artists. You might find yourself shopping while your color is setting.
