During my exam, Dr. Pearl Shih, OD alarmed me by suggesting I might have glaucoma and pushed for further testing. This left me incredibly nervous and confused, especially since I get regular eye exams and have absolutely no family history of this serious condition. To make matters worse, Dr. Shih wrote me a new prescription for glasses. When I asked for my physical prescription, the older gentleman assisting me seemed a bit put off that I was taking it to buy glasses elsewhere rather than purchasing them directly from the clinic. I purchased a new pair elsewhere using their prescription, but upon receiving them, I couldn't see clearly far away or up close. The prescription was completely wrong, and I was forced to fall back on my old glasses. Because of these red flags, I canceled my follow-up appointment at Golden Vision and booked an appointment with a medical ophthalmologist instead. My new ophthalmologist requested the exam results from Golden Vision to review the glaucoma claim. However, when I contacted the clinic, that exact same gentleman flat-out refused to provide my medical records to me. Thankfully, the new exam results with my ophthalmologist confirmed that I do not have glaucoma. Between the grossly incorrect prescription, the unnecessary alarm over an incorrect diagnosis, the unprofessional demeanor regarding my glasses purchase, and the refusal to release my medical records to another doctor, my trust in this practice is zero. Save yourself the stress, money, and risk to your eye health--go somewhere else.

I went in for a contact lens fitting because my current lenses weren't fitting properly. I explained that to the doctor at the beginning of my appointment, so he knew exactly why I was there. After the exam, he gave me one trial box in the prescribed power and said it was the only box he had. That's only about two days of wear. I told him I didn't think that was enough time to know if the lenses fit well. Instead of giving me more of the same prescription, he gave me one trial box in a lower power. That also only lasts about two days, and one pair has to be saved for my follow-up visit. So in reality, I only had about one day to try each prescription. I even joked that maybe I should wear both prescriptions at the same time. He said some people do that and told me to give it a try. But I came in because my contact lenses weren't fitting properly. One day simply isn't enough to know whether a contact lens fits properly. The doctor seemed busy, so I asked the front desk if I could get just two more days of trial lenses in one of the prescriptions so I could properly evaluate the fit. The woman at the front desk said she would check. Before she even had a chance, another employee walked by and, without stopping to understand my situation, loudly said they don't give out lenses just because someone asks. She kept repeating, "You need to wear those when you come back for your follow-up." She never asked how many trial lenses I had received or what the doctor had recommended. She didn't ask me a single question before making a judgment. I came in seeking help with a contact lens fitting, but instead of trying to understand my situation, she dismissed my concern without ever speaking to me. After that, I saw her walk into the back office and begin talking with the owner while looking in my direction through the glass wall. I could hear her mention that I was asking for more lenses. I don't know what else was said, but it made me feel even more uncomfortable and judged. I asked if I could speak with the doctor again, but I was told he was busy. I then asked for a copy of my contact lens prescription. They said they would email it to me, but instead I received a link to create a patient portal account. When I opened the link, all I got was an error message that said, {"message": "URL not found"}. I tried the link in both Chrome and Safari, but neither worked. When I called the office, I was told they couldn't email my prescription and that I would have to drive back to the place to pick it up in person. I paid $299 for the exam. Patients have the right to receive a copy of their contact lens prescription. A broken portal link and another trip across town is not a reasonable way to provide it. After my visit, I learned that the practice has new owners. I also noticed several recent reviews from other patients saying the service had changed after the ownership change. I honestly wish I had read those reviews before making my appointment because my experience was very similar. If you're considering this place, I encourage you to read the recent reviews first. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I can't recommend this practice, and I won't be back. Overall, I've had a much better experience with Costco Optometry.

Every visit it is the same: check in, sit down, and get told "just a few more minutes." It is never just a few minutes, and no one can ever give an accurate wait time. Meanwhile, they have no problem charging patients a late fee if you are behind. The front desk also seems completely unsure about insurance and pricing. Simple questions turn into hesitation, checking with multiple people, and inconsistent answers. It does not inspire much confidence when they do not even seem to know what things cost. Last year they ordered contacts for me and told me to come back in a week. When I called to check, they had completely forgotten to order them. No apology, just more waiting. After two years, this is clearly just how they operate. Always late, poor communication, and disorganized. If you value your time or expect basic competence, this probably is not the place. The only good thing about this place is Dr.Huang, who is a skilled optometrist.

I was also told I didn't actually have a vision problem, so insurance supposedly wouldn't cover sunglasses. Despite that, I was then sold glasses for computer work along with an extra $75 charge for a "special blue light" feature that was supposed to help slow the damage to my eyes. Between my out-of-pocket cost and what was billed to my insurance, the total ended up being much higher than expected. I also noticed "Calvin Klein" billed through insurance, which made no sense considering I had just been told insurance wouldn't cover glasses because I didn't need a prescription. I left the appointment extremely worried and was told to see a specialist. Looking back, there were a lot of red flags, but at the time I was scared something was seriously wrong with my eyesight. Two weeks later, after picking up the "GFBriller" glasses, I saw a specialist at Kaiser and was told my eyes are perfectly healthy. I was informed that blue light glasses are largely a marketing gimmick, and I now feel like I was manipulated into buying unnecessary products through fear and misinformation. Very disappointing experience, and I would strongly encourage others to get a second opinion before agreeing to expensive add-ons or diagnoses from this company.
