I just had "Bob" come to the house to look at and provide a quote on four small tasks that I'm combining into one job. I haven't chosen a vendor yet, but Bob showed up on time, was thorough, courteous and knowledgable, provided some useful insights regarding the work to be done. Yes, he pitched the "Whole House Safety Inspection" option. I did a quick back-of-the-envelope calculation which proved to me as a 32-year homeowner that the plan didn't make economic sense. I explained this to Bob, and he said OK and moved right on to the next step in the quoting process. I also explained that, over the years, my approach with home improvement contractors has been to NOT beat them up on price--but to insist on first-class, top-quality work, and to be around while the work is being done. The few vendors who didn't "get" this found out how truly unpleasant I can be--but such scumbags have been the rare exceptions. Tree took out power line at 2 AM. Called Power company. They said "gotta cut your power; you need lic electrician to fix power at house, then inspector says ok, then we come and re-connect power". So I called an umbrella electrical service organization and ended up getting connected to Sylvester Electric. By 8:30 AM (same day) Sylvester said that they would have "Bob" out to my house about noontime. Bob showed up on time, got my electrical fixed by about 5 PM (the electrical pipe had come off of the house, the meter was hanging: replaced all), inspector blessed the job and called the power company. Power company came about 11:30 PM, power back on about 1:30 AM. VERY SATISFIED with Sylvester Electric: demeanor of everyone involved: Molly on the phone was caring and pleasant to deal with, and Bob and (sorry, can't remember name) who showed up on time and did a great job, were quite personable and very forthcoming about the work that was necessary and what the cost would be. read more

I recently used this company to address a number of electrical issues at my parents' home as we prepared the home for sale. The electrical issues were pretty basic - like installing ground fault plugs in the kitchen and bathrooms instead of conventional plugs, installing two programmable thermostats, installing fluorescent lighting in the basement, adding some ceiling light fixtures, and addressing a number of "handyman special" electrical problems my dad had created. I was extremely pleased with both of my electrical techs, Jun and Phil. They were professional, pleasant to work with, fully understood my 9 issues and successfully resolved them all to my satisfaction. They performed a safety inspection/review and recommended replacement of my very out of date smoke detectors. That was a big safety issue because the old detectors were not set up to work in concert with each other the way they were supposed to. I've used Sylvester Electric many times and I've gotta say that they are great for a service company. They are family owned, care about the customer experience, and are priced reasonably. It's never a good thing when you have to call an electrician but they have always been good to me and I can't complain about that. One thing to note is that you will pay a service fee but its now the industry standard and theres is cheaper than any in the area. Go ahead and call around, I did. I would give no stars if I could was told I'd pay a $99 dollar dispatch/diagnostic and then pay by job by two appointment people and when the guy got there he couldn't figure out the issue and told me he'd have to charge me more to figure it out. And that time cost money, called the office to have them explain to me how Time cost money when prices are job based and he didn't even know what job he was doing called twice and no one called me back. read more
