I'm not a big Yelper but was a little too annoyed not to leave a review. We went on a Wednesday and the menu says, "$2 sliders, and $4 draft beers." We ordered 4 beers over the course of dinner and we were charged $9/beer. When the bIll came, I asked the server if we were overcharged and she said the $4 beers are only for beers that are 5.5% or less. Well, how about you put that on the menu? Mind reading isn't my thing. Menu also had a Cuban sandwich that doesn't list mayo as an ingredient (just mustard) and I'm not a fan of mayo at all so I sent it back. Again, just put it on the menu and I could've just asked for no mayo instead of having to send it back, pissing everyone off, and having to wait 20 more minutes for dinner. Every other ingredient was listed so I just don't get it. Seems easy enough to mean what you say and say what you mean. Don't say draft beers are on special for $4 then charge me $9 for a draft beer. Don't list all the ingredients in a sandwich, leave out mayo from the list, and then add mayo. Those issues aside, food was fairly good. read more

I've ordered from them a number of times, generally they are ok, but on most orders there is generally an issue. On my order today I felt I had to post a review. I ordered a half rack of St. Louis style ribs and a brisket sandwich. Unfortunately the brisket was overdone, the sweet butter (which is delicious, btw) was missing. This is the second time we come to Swingbellys and I don't have any complaint. Today I had the tacos and they were amazing! The best part is that they let you choose different meats so I was able to try the pork belly (my favorite), chicken and brisket...it also comes with a side and the Mac and cheese was so deliciously creamy and the bread crumbs gave it the perfect texture and nutty taste. My boyfriend had the brisket and our server was so kind to give him a chance to try different sauce and we tried them all and we can't choose which one was the best. Now his favorite side continues to be the cucumber salad! He loved it and wanted to ordered moMy daughter had the grill cheese but she enjoyed my tacos more. My wife and I went here on the way to a concert at Jones beach last night. My second time here(first review) and her first time. We sat outside on the patio. We ordered fried pickles, Smokey wings, Mac and cheese and burnt steak tips. It's a good vibe; decorated like a roadhouse from down South. I know good barbecue. It is one of my favorite foods. I have had barbecue all over the United States. This was not good barbecue. Sadly the food doesnt live up to the decor. The nachos had a tasteless cheese like watery sauce and cubes of dried out tasteless meat. The Cuban sandwich was made with kielbasa and dried out meat of some sort with bread that was so over toasted it was like munching on a brick. I was afraid I'd break a tooth. The famed Mac & cheese was greasy and not hot. The collard greens were also not hot and were oily and unchopped unlike any collard greens I evey had. The meals took a long time to come out and did not come out at the same time; 2 came out at once, the other 2 had to wait 5 minutes more, a practice I hate. Cool joint. Took the family and wanted to try everything. Ordered the Swingbelly challenge and split it with my wife. Idk how anyone eats that whole platter in an hour! The leftovers fed us both again the next night and I still had about three St. Louis ribs remaining after that. Had to get the Monday special Monster Margaritas; at 32 oz they did not disappoint. First round was really tasty, second round was really strong. No complaints here! Burnt ends nachos were crispy and delicious with lots of toppings. Parents had some pulled pork tacos for $3 each and a pulled pork Sammy. Kids didn't like the Mac n cheese (I don't get it either) but the waitress was super nice and accommodating and swapped it out for a kids burger which they devoured. BBQ sauce was solid and there's plenty more apps I want to try next time. I didnt quite understand how a place with a pig for a picture ran out of pork. It was cool..i had second and third choices. Started out with fried pickles (nice greasy and bbbbaaaddd for you), cornbread with maple butter, and pulled brisket (no i did not eat this all by myself...it doesnt sound humanly possible). Some highlights: wwwwaaaannnggggssss. I dont know spice rub they use but damn it is good. The choice of dipping sauces (i had the chipotle honey and the tangy bbq they bring to the table will change your life) and their american lemonade (dont remember what was in it) are capable of inducing labor. While I cannot disagree that the service is not ideal, it is far from unpleasant. Our server for the night was young, and she admitted it was her first night on the floor. She was very pleasant- when she was present. At one point the owner came over to get our main entree order. The place was packed to the gills, and the smell beckoned for miles! We started with the fried pickles, which were crispy, succulent and full of flavour. They are not common in this region, and are a special treat to those in the know. The sauce with which they were served was a perfect pairing. While waiting for drinks, or on the next course, there are mountains of spicy peanuts to pick at. For my entree, I had a healthy sampling of the Brisket, Pulled Pork and a side of Mac and also a side of Cole Slaw. My guest for the evening had a full rack of ribs...which were so infernally good! The meat has an amazing bark on top and falls off of the bone with no effort. The main course took almost an hour, but every moment spent waiting was more than paid off for with each bite consumed. Between the perfect char and amazing smoke rings, I was quite satiated. We didn't even bother with the sampling of all of the BBQ sauces - the meat spoke for itself. The House sauce was good, but next time I will try some others. The Cole Slaw was homemade- sweet and vinegary - a perfect blend. The Mac and Cheese was like a crunchy stew - each bite was like masticating an angel. These folks know what BBQ truly is! Come here if you are looking for a let down. First time I go, I'm standing there waiting to be seated. I'll sit myself, I don't mind... but I just didn't see anyone working on the floor. The 2nd time I give it a go it's the super bowl, I call them the day of in the morning or whenever they opened on a long shot and just ask if they can take an order for 75 wings or something if that amount. The young lady who answered the phone checked with the kitchen and said yes they can handle it, I was ecstatic. I get there for 6pm to pick them up which was the time I was told to come by..... waited an hour. Was told they were coming out probably 5 times, but the reality was they never put them in. The girl then says "well you shouldn't call the day of." Well, maybe you shouldn't say you can accommodate when you answered the phone this morning? Went here because my friends live near by. I started off with the Sweet Tea (alcoholic drink). Super watery and a waste of $14. I had the combo of pulled pork and brisket platter for my meal. To me this are BBQ staples and if you can't get these right I don't think you should do BBQ. The brisket was very much underwhelming the pulled pork was solid. Went here last night with the family and attempted their food eating challenge. The amount of food that needed to be eaten was ridiculous but I've eaten that much with no problem before. The thing that I'm very disappointed about is that they purposely dry out the food they serve you for the challenge. It's like they put it in a dehydrator and I know they dry it out purposely because everyone else at the table had the same food that came with the challenge such as the ribs chicken and cornbread and it was moist and tender. So lets start with some honesty, its memorial day weekend (MDW) and its slightly past 4pm. My group and I came after a long day under the sun on Long beach and were completely famished. I immediately yelped the nearest food joins and here appears Swingbelly BBQ, a Smokehouse, and I love me some slow cooking smokey cuts on meat. Since most of my peeps don't eat swine, there were other options luckily to explode. We were 6 people, half ordered chicken salads ($15), I know who does that right? Its a SMOKEHOUSE People!! I don't get it honestly. I ordered their original Classic BBQ brisket topped with cole slaw ($12) and a side of salad ($4). It was very upsetting to sit there and watch customers who got seated after us get their food first. We waited patiently over 50 minutes after ordering to receive our food. Waste of time. My brisket was tasty, but i was also ready to swallow my fist, so not exactly sure whether it was actually good. The Chicken salad was awful for the price and came out with cold chicken... like refrigerator cold. I understand its MDW and it may be a busy time, but the place was only half full, compared to the beach house which was completely packed and had a 45 minute wait. The service was absolutely horrible, with dirty tables and lack of service. They brought us our plates topped with loose silverware and placed it on the end of the table for us to distribute, like here, you figure it out. All of the silverware was toppled over and fell on the table, plates half washed and still wet. I mean come on! totally unhygienic. After the server took our order she disappeared, trying not to stop at our table to make up excuses why the food is taking long. What I don't understand is why it was taking long. It was 3 salads and 2 brisket sandwiches. The brisket is supposed to be already cooked, right? and the salads came out plain with cold chicken. 50 Minutes for that?! Nothing creative or requires much prep. I know because I worked in kitchens before. Bathroom was atrocious with toilet paper all over the floor and beer glasses by the stalls. And what was up with your nachos?! did you open a bag of Doritos and place cheese on top. I was convinced that was exactly what I tasted and they even looked the same.. coincidence...? I think not. I have been a big fan of Swing Bellie's for a long time and they have been a great Long Beach staple. They have always had great service and even better food. Sadly, my last few experiences have been disappointing. It seems that a lot of changes have been made, and not for the better. Living on the West end, I love ordering Take-out on nights I need comfort food, but don't want to cook. In the past, the food has always been amazing, and beyond expectations. However, recently the orders have been missing items, or just been completely wrong. Considering I still adore the food, this Friday, my boyfriend and I decided to eat lunch at restaurant. After waiting by the front for a few minutes, We were greeted by a member on the staff who we initially thought was a patron because he was sitting at the bar in a hoodie, and told to sit wherever we would like, and that a server would be over shortly. The restaurant was empty besides one other table, so we picked a nice big booth in the corner. After some time, a waitress came to the table asked if we knew what we wanted. We asked if she had a cocktail list available, she scoffed, rolled her eyes and pointed to the beer list near the wall. I asked if they still made the great pint-sized cocktails, and without answering, she turned around to the bar, grabbed a dinner menu with the cocktail list and tossed it down on the table, then walked away. My boyfriend and I were a little shocked about her rude behavior, but just chalked it up to the server having a bad day. When she came back to take the drink orders, she scoffed again and asked "do you know what you want to order yet?". Apparently, she was having a really bad day. I wish that that was the end of our unpleasant experience, but it wasn't. The drinks were watered down, definitely not the normal, delicious Swing Bellie's drinks. Afterwards, our food was ok, but mostly mediocre. We ordered the fried pickle appetizer, which was great as always. However, our entrees were just bad. We ordered the BBQ grilled cheese, and the pulled chicken sandwich to share. The BBQ chicken sandwich was just cold chicken with a squirt of BBQ sauce on top, on a slightly warmed bun, no toppings or anything extra. The grilled cheese had much more filling, but very little cheese, and was very dry, cold and greasy. Neither sandwich came with any sort of side, so we decided to order mac and cheese as well as the mashed potatoes. Each side was $4, but were extremely small. The mashed potatoes were really watery and also a little cold. The Mac and cheese was good, but we wished we had more! Also, when we asked for plates so we could share, the server seemed mad, and gave us paper plates- which was strange. The bill came out and was sky high for lunch- definitely not worth the money. We left sad and disappointed. It definitely isn't what we have come to know or expect from one of our favorite restaurants. Maybe Swingbellie's is just going through some growing pains. I sincerely hope that the can sort out the hiccups that they've been having recently. My only complaint is that it seems every time I'm here, my glass can sit empty for a good 15-20 minutes before I'm able to even flag someone down to refill it. It's really more like 3.24 stars, but I feel obligated to offset the overly positive reviews. The people who work there, the people who hang out there --- GREAT people. They all deserve better food at better prices. Nothing really tastes that good. It's all a little bland or has a little too much of this or a little too much of that. The seasoning is all forgettable, like a Kraft bbq taste. The wings are OK, i'd stop in for them. The ribs are chinese food quality, if that. And the place's set up is just not great at all. It feels like someone set up picnic tables in their basement apartment, and then spent five times as much putting goofy crap on the walls in an effort to try and make it look like a BBQ place that isn't trying to look like a bbq place. There's peanuts. That's cool i guess. Great place if you have bad taste in food and can dilute yourself and said bad food with worse beer. So i just moved to Oceanside and couldn't wait to venture out to Long Beach since it's kind of my new "downtown". Swingbelly's is perfect for the neighborhood in that it has a relaxed atmosphere with great people, really good, fun food and strong drinks. Our server was really sweet and funny. I ordered the Borracho which she later referred to as a "Borrach" for short. When she asked me how my Borrach was doing, I felt my cheeks go red and I stammered for an appropriate answer. I must have misunderstood . . . wait what did she say?!?! OF COURSE - my DRINK! All the tequila in Borrach didn't help. During my next visit, my bf and I split the margarita which was also good though I wish it was made with all fresh ingredients and not that syrupy sour mix. The wings here are kept whole and they are marvelous!! The buffalo wings have a slight smokey bbq flavor that you don't normally get at other places. The house made blue cheese was a little mild for my taste but still good. The ribs were very good but they don't really stand out to me. I am planning to go back for a second taste, so I'll get back to you. The crowd in this place is generally fun-loving and relaxed which is great. Wish they had some cool music or a jukebox though.
