I've been craving ribs for so long, I live in Long Beach and could really go for a new lunch/dinner spot that I could count on. And I'm sitting here with a 25% off coupon-done! So I tried it. Baby back ribs were good, better than the St Louis, and the chicken was juicy, fries were good too. I would have paid more money to get an assortment of sauces so I could find one that I like. The sauce that I got on the side was not good and that killed the whole dinner in my view. If they upgrade the sauce recipe-maybe get it from Famous Dave/BBQ and then you may have a winner here. Or use your own, guess that's an option too. I'll go back when I can sit down and try all the sauces to see if I can find one that's great. Prices are reasonable particularly for Long Beach. Great lunch spot! Everything on the menu looked really great but I went with the brisket tacos. Amazing so tender and full of flavor. A friend of mine got the BLT and liked it as well but I much preferred the tacos. More bang for your buck. The beer selection here is really great... lost of interesting craft choices and of course the regular beers you'd see at a bar if you're not an adventurous beer drinker. Not too crowded and noisy in the afternoon so great place for lunch... but also a fun place to go out at night. Later in the night we came back for s few beers and the crowd was a lot of fun. Any place that opens after the destructive force of Sandy is 5 stars in my book. Swingbellys BBQ took a beating, but they are defying the odds and continue to serve some delicious cue. On my first visit (couple of summers ago) my wife and I shared a BBQ platter that was one of those "eat it all, get it for free deals". Ribs, beef brisket, wings, rib tips, pulled pork, cornbread, Texas toast, two sides all for $38. While, I did not see this deal on their menu last Saturday, they did have a sign on the wall. Last Saturday, we ordered a pulled pork and beef brisket combo with mac n cheese; and 1/2 rack St. Louis ribs with fries. Both entrees came with cornbread. Ribs Nice bark. BBQ magic with a nice ring. Well seasoned. Meat came of the bone. There was no pull. I give it a solid B+ and this was a very tasty rib. Did not need sauce for flavor. Ribs held up to seasoning. Lite smoke flavor, did not over power rib. Had a vinegar base sauce on side. Tasty, tangy, added to the flavor profile. Thick Texas toast with entree. Yummy. Pulled Pork Again with the BBQ magic and the ring. No sauce needed. Lots of flavor. Moist. Slight smoke flavor. I did enjoy the pulled pork. Side of honey BBQ sauce added to flavor profile. Texas toast with entree. Beef Brisket Moist, flavorful, BBQ magic, but small pieces. I felt I was getting slice smoked top round steak. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but not high end beef brisket. Definitely not Mighty Quinn caliber. Decent overall. I liked their mac n cheese; cheesy, soupy (which I like), nice toasty bread like topping. French fries, while tasty, just skip. Corn bread soft and flavorful. Very nice. I liked their Texas toast; thick, toasted, soft; held up to soaking up all the flavors. Yum Yum. Overall, Swingbellys BBQ is a solid BBQ joint. The ribs very good. Pulled pork balanced in flavor and pull. While the beef brisket was a small slice; very tender and tasty. Swingbellys BBQ still has some challenges with Sandy, but the operation is working hard to overcome. I will certainly go out of my way to support Swingbellys BBQ. Not only because of the challenges of Sandy, but because they have some solid BBQ. I go to Long Beach half a dozen times a year and Swingbellys BBQ will always be a stop. read more

ZERO STARS! Never in my life have I ever gotten food this disgusting...turned me vegetarian! My chicken was filled with blood, bones were broken and bloody inside and had a horrible smell!! I was pulling giant snake-like tendons out of the ribs making me gag! The cornbread had a disgusting taste and the rest of my party also couldn't eat a bite...everything went in the garbage pail!!! Came here with my boyfriend on the Friday before Memorial Day. Had every intention of sitting outside but changed our minds when we got here because it was getting a bit chilly. My whole family has been here before but for some reason I'm never around when anyone goes, so it's been on my list for awhile. The recommendations I was given were that I have to try to wings and the Mac n cheese. So naturally, I listened and we ordered wings for an app. I will say we definitely went overboard here, but we don't regret it there was just so much we wanted to try!! For an appetizer we also got the cornbread. Then for our meals my boyfriend got the smokehouse cheesesteak, with fries and of course an extra side of Mac and cheese! I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich with a side salad- had to try to at least get some greens. When the food came out we of course knew we had ordered too much, but we're still excited to try everything! The wings, were delicious! No surprise there since I've only heard great things about these. My boyfriend loved the smokehouse cheesesteak, in fact, he's already asking to come back so he can eat it again. I unfortunately have to admit I was a little disappointed in the pulled chicken sandwich. The description said it was cooked long and slow so I was expecting some really great chicken and wanted the sauce to be overflowing. However unfortunately when I got it it seemed more like the white meat was pulled off a rotisserie chicken and topped with a little BBQ sauce on top. I just got done eating here. Got a seat outside with some friend. I enjoyed the people watching on a Sunday. (Sunday fun day)! The waitress approached us, told us the specials and was very friendly. She had a smile on her face and came back to check on us.. I ordered the sliced brisket sandwich with a Mac and cheese on the side. The sandwich was great flavors. I asked for the smokey sauce on the side (great with the Alice's brisket meat); it was moist, flavorful, smokey, fall apart, smelt great. The meat was happy & I was happy = great combo. I also got he Mac and cheese on the side and I was really full. I loved the bread crumb topping, it added a little crunch to each bite! I really wanted the collard greens BUT they were out! Darn it. I didn't get any of the drinks, BUT lots of beer choices (tap), was cold for a hot day. The American lemonade looks amazing, and today they had the 36oz. Margaritas. Now normally for 10 bucks I would definitely get that, but I'm detoxing today. Lol Any who if your craving BBQ, have a date night, or super in the mood to get out of the house, check this place out! I decided to give Swingbelly's BBQ a 2nd chance. I shouldn't have. Never again! The ribs were dry and tough. I took a few bites and that was it for me. I couldn't eat them. The cornbread tasted funny, the small container of grilled veggies was ok. The mashed potatoes were ok, but cold. Once in a while I go to The Outback and get surf and turf, so for a change, I tried the ribs there and was surprised...they were excellent! The meat fell off the bones. They were not dry and could melt in your mouth. If you want good baby back ribs, go to The Outback or somewhere else like Smokin' Al's. NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

I have gone to this place at least 25 times this summer. It is located in an amazing area. Def a beach type environment and spot for nice weather. Even if it were cold, still amazing spot. The service here is nice as well. Sometimes you can tell the servers are running around a bit but thats cause it gets so crazy busy. Sometimes it takes just a bit longer for food to come out but thats ok considering how good it is. Overall they provide a nice experience. The food here is just amazing. I think their best dishes are the combination plates. They have the perfect type of sides to compliment the dishes as well. The mac and cheese is amazing! Went there with a party of 5 on Father's Day, 2022. Waitress was nice but I had to wave her down to get a second drink. It was a little busy but not jam packed. When we ordered our appetizers she told us we had to order our whole order. I said ok, as long as we had time to enjoy the appetizer before the food came. The appetizers were served and while eating them, the whole food order came out. I told the server we were not ready and they took them back. 10 minutes later we were ready and the food came out. I was so let down. Hadn't dined at swingbellys in a while and was so unhappy. Waitress was nice, runners just drop food at table and run without even seeing that we didn't have silverware to eat and no personality. Menu is cut down from what it was originally it's now more of a bar scene rather then a bbq restaurant. The fries tasted frozen, Mac and cheese was just ok too many breadcrumbs. Drinks weren't good either. Not sure why we even ordered desserts but they were just as horrible even the ice cream that was placed on top not even a proper scoop looked old. And had to ask for silverware with each meal. Didn't want to complain about everything to staff just will not be back. Miss the original swingbellys. I've been here twice. Both times disappointing. The first time was a few years ago--maybe 2018. I came with friends and was very very underwhelmed as far as bbq is concerned. They do guest bartending, which is pretty cool, but that night the drinks were subpar. The second time I visited, I was very very underwhelmed again. The service was terrible. No one pays attention here -- they overcharged me and forgot simple additions to the food. When I finally began eating, I realized that it was under seasoned. Our server went missing for a half hour. I had to ask multiple times for another server to bring me a beer. I'm sure this place may want to do good business but they're severely lacking. My partner and I have enjoyed this place a couple times now during covid. We typically order our food to go and sit on the beach to eat. Parking, or even finding somewhere to stop temporarily is difficult. We've had the fried chicken sandwich, the Cuban, the ribs, and the mac and cheese. The sandwiches were both delicious and are highly recommended, albeit a little pricey- pretty sure I've paid less in Manhattan for the same meal! The ribs were good (probably 3 stars), but the sauce was a little lacking for my taste, and the mac and cheese is just your classic mediocre overcooked mac and cheese (although it did taste good paired with the ribs and bbq sauce). It looks like workers aren't wearing masks, so if that's a concern, maybe not the best place for you (although it looks like most of Long Beach is like that!) In addition, when our takeout order included the mac and cheese, they didn't give us any utensils. That was annoying. Luckily my partner and I are innovative and used the rib bones. I was all set to read my newspapers and enjoy some barbecue here when the bright lighting suddenly gave way to a degree of darkness suited for a lounge on Avenue B. This enhanced my opinion that Swingbellys is a bar that happens to have food rather than a barbecue destination, but I hoped to put my annoyance aside and try to rate the food fairly. The pulled pork didn't necessarily live up to the hype but was a decent effort, with large pieces. I was a bit unclear on the sauce procedure. Presumably there's some choice but I wound up with the default sauce which was too sweet, perhaps with a hint of molasses. Cool joint. Took the family and wanted to try everything. Ordered the Swingbelly challenge and split it with my wife. Idk how anyone eats that whole platter in an hour! The leftovers fed us both again the next night and I still had about three St. Louis ribs remaining after that. Had to get the Monday special Monster Margaritas; at 32 oz they did not disappoint. First round was really tasty, second round was really strong. No complaints here! Burnt ends nachos were crispy and delicious with lots of toppings. Parents had some pulled pork tacos for $3 each and a pulled pork Sammy. Kids didn't like the Mac n cheese (I don't get it either) but the waitress was super nice and accommodating and swapped it out for a kids burger which they devoured. BBQ sauce was solid and there's plenty more apps I want to try next time. Only negative was the staff chose the YES broadcast over the SNY broadcast for the Subway Series game (call me a bitter Mets fan). I'm not a big Yelper but was a little too annoyed not to leave a review. We went on a Wednesday and the menu says, "$2 sliders, and $4 draft beers." We ordered 4 beers over the course of dinner and we were charged $9/beer. When the bIll came, I asked the server if we were overcharged and she said the $4 beers are only for beers that are 5.5% or less. Well, how about you put that on the menu? Mind reading isn't my thing. Menu also had a Cuban sandwich that doesn't list mayo as an ingredient (just mustard) and I'm not a fan of mayo at all so I sent it back. Again, just put it on the menu and I could've just asked for no mayo instead of having to send it back, pissing everyone off, and having to wait 20 more minutes for dinner. Every other ingredient was listed so I just don't get it. Seems easy enough to mean what you say and say what you mean. Don't say draft beers are on special for $4 then charge me $9 for a draft beer. The interior of SB's has been redone and personally, I'm not a fan. They've moved some things around making the bar area larger, but the dining room has this gigantic divider making it feel really tight in there. That being said, the new layout isn't stopping me from coming in and enjoying some BBQ. Let me take a minute to chat about the wings. Ohhhh the wings. Check my pic, oh wait, I finished all of them before I got to snap a pic. Smoked well, crispy on the outside, smothered in smokey bbq sauce... so good. I think I've found my favorite Long Island BBQ spot. Move over, Smokin' Al's, Swingbelly's is here. I arrived last night with several members of my motorcycle club. It's a good thing we arrived by motorcycle because finding parking for a car is a challenge in itself. There's almost always room to squeeze a motorcycle (though we couldn't all park together as we like). Three of us ordered the combo platter for three. This huge serving includes a sample of just about ALL of the meats they sell. BBQ brisket, pulled pork, ribs, chicken and andouille sausage. It also include three DELICIOUS pieces of cornbread. For the sides we got the BBQ beans, sweet potato fries, and corn on the cob. If there's any failing, it was the corn. It is a dish advertised for THREE people. The waittress knew that three of us were splitting it... so WHY only TWO pieces of corn? I've had a LOT of corn lately (just came off the Fourth of July weekend after all) so I let my two friends indulge. The beans and sweet potato fries were excellent. But the meats? HEAVEN! Everything done to perfection. We also got a sampler of all five of their sauces. Their mango habanero sauce sounded promising, but it wasn't as good as my favorite (Dinosaur BBQ's Wango Tango Habanero BBQ sauce). The other, milder sauces were also very very tasty. Best part of all, is that when the bill came, they'd already figured in the gratuity (six people at the table, and this was clearly stated on the menu) so all we had to do was split it six ways. I was in the mood for BBQ and we went to Long Beach. It was refreshingly good for Long Island. The 5 star rating system is neither useful funny or cool. It is hard to know what rating to give it. It is more like 3 and half in my opinion, but really the rating system would be more effective if it was a 10 star rating system. the pros 1) great menu options for BBQ, not just pulled pork and brisket like everyone else has, they have turkey, fish, chicken, entree salads , many sides to choose from drinks and desserts, they had other interesting dishes like a turkey BLT 2) great value for the price-the pictures just do not do it justice. The portions are huge. But there is a sharing charge so we got our own entrees and took home left overs. But one entree can easily feed at least 2 people maybe 3. 3) fun casual atmosphere not as pretentious as other restaurants in Long Beach 4)the waitress was very helpful 5) close to the beach so in the summer it's a great option if in Long Beach the cons 1) the bar area is not really separate people were walking around drinking and there was no room to walk to the bathroom and it was a bit too noisy to hold a conversation 2) the food was good but it did not blow me away but it holds it's own against any BBQ in NYC. It is not upscale like Blue Smoke and not as good as Daisy May's but I loved the menu variety and it was good for the price! 3) there were several sauces to choose from and they were generous with the sauce which is a good thing but they could improve on the sauces! This is the second time we come to Swingbellys and I don't have any complaint. Today I had the tacos and they were amazing! The best part is that they let you choose different meats so I was able to try the pork belly (my favorite), chicken and brisket...it also comes with a side and the Mac and cheese was so deliciously creamy and the bread crumbs gave it the perfect texture and nutty taste. My boyfriend had the brisket and our server was so kind to give him a chance to try different sauce and we tried them all and we can't choose which one was the best. Now his favorite side continues to be the cucumber salad! He loved it and wanted to ordered moMy daughter had the grill cheese but she enjoyed my tacos more.
