First time eating here in several yrs. Was excited to get my favorite. Unfortunately the menu had changed significantly and my favorite no longer on the menu. I ordered a Thanksgiving turkey sandwich. Very disappointing. It contained deli sliced turkey and was very small. Macaroni salad was average again with a small serving. Friends had Chicken Parm sandwich which was smaller than other places, and more expensive than dinners. Other friend had BLT which he said was average. Service was good initially but has the place got crowded, service declined. Waited 15 minutes for bill- never received drink refills as requested. Overall very disappointing experience and will be a long time if ever go back. read more

Went to Swiftys in Delmar for lunch today (3 of us) Service was great. Food was horrible and very expensive. Patty melt: menu said burger was a half pound. Not even close. Grizzly. bread was stale. Really not edible. Fries: they were either cold and refried or just overcooked. Not edible. CHicken quesadilla: cold, really bad. How do you mess up a quesadilla? It was not edible. I think the tortillas were old or something. Hard to even cut with a knife. $19 for a quesadilla???? This place used to have awesome food. I'm so sorry that it's gone this far downhill. I've been here probably 8 times now and have never been disappointed. Today my family of 4 came for lunch so parking was easy and we were seated right away. All staff we encountered were pleasant. Atmosphere is divey but not dirty. My kids had large meals of chicken fingers, hot dogs, fries and onion rings with an ice cream cup for a very reasonable $7.99. My husband and I always get the delicious Reuben spring rolls. I had the French onion soup and mushroom and arugula salad with salmon added. In the past the salad has come with fried mushrooms but today it was fried cauliflower. I prefer the fried mushrooms (it is a mushroom salad after all) and just personal choice but the cauliflower was still ok. My husband loves the fish and chips and the tartar sauce is delicious. We all left with plenty of leftovers. We will continue to go and to get takeout. One of our favorite local spots! read more

The deep fried buffalo burger is gone. Kaput. I was considering a return trip to Albany. And if I was only going to be in town for one meal, where would I go? The answer for me was Swifty's for one reason and one reason only. Just to get another taste of the deep fried buffalo burger. But I heard a nasty rumor. I heard that the dish I still dream about, the thing I would want to eat as my last dying meal, had been unceremoniously removed from Swifty's menu. That couldn't be true. It was the best thing there. In my mind, it was the only reason to visit this restaurant. So I called to find out. Yes, the deep fried buffalo burger is off the menu. "But could you still make it for me as a special request?" No. The kitchen no longer has the ingredients needed. I presume that would have to be the batter. And no, the other location in Albany doesn't have it either. This makes me so sad. I am compelled to downgrade my original review as I've had other treats from Swifty's. Their pizza and fried snacks are fine. They do have good beers available. If this were my neighborhood tavern, I'd certainly pop in on occasion. However, they killed the goose that laid the golden egg. My only hope is that the management of the Utica location wasn't so short sighted. read more

Tried it on a whim for a quick lunch. Got the shepherds pie and the dubliner. We skipped apps. The pie was VERY small and much more potatoes than actual substance/meat. The flavor was ok, but it definitely could use and upgrade in all areas. The dubliner was good, the focaccia was fantastic and there was a decent amount of turkey on the sandwich it came with fresh cut fries that didn't seem fresh cut but were okay overall. The place is cute inside but the walls are dirty and it could use a bit of a wipe down on the booths too. Also, the water definitely had an off taste which was sad because I don't typically order soda. The staff are all young kids who are friendly but definitely not overly attentive. Honestly, might give it a second shot but it would be last resort. Sad because it's been around for so long, would love to see it get a facelift for sure ! read more

Before I get into my review I would like to mention that Swifty's has removed their signature fried Buffalo burger from the menu which is ridiculous. This was by far their best and most unique item on the menu. They should be ashamed of themselves. Anyways, I've been to the Swifty's in Albany many times, but I heard this location did trivia so I decided to give it a try. With that in mind, the trivia here was terrible and not actual trivia. It was riddles, rhymes, and just bizarre things. I suggest going somewhere else to play trivia. Also, the service was terrible. It took 45 minutes for the waitress to take my order and then another hour for the food to come. Now onto the food which was actually very good. To explain, I ordered the Cowboy burger with tater tots and it was delicious. To elaborate, the burger was juicy, tender, and flavorful. In addition, the bun was brioche style and it was toasted to perfection. It was a really good burger. In the same vein, the tater tots were excellent. The tots were hot, crispy, and seasoned. I enjoyed the food very much. In conclusion, the food at Swifty's is very good, but it's a travesty they removed the fried Buffalo burger from the menu. read more

Love swifty's! It's one of my favorite pubs for delicious food, friendly service and the perfect laid back feel. Located in the heart of Delmar at the 4 corners you can grab a quick bite to eat, enjoy a drink at the bar or sit outside and enjoy the weather. They have some of the best fries I've ever had and a generous portion on all the food. The Buffalo chicken wrap and BLT are my favorites. My husband had them make a grilled cheese with bacon and said it was perfect. They have good prices on everything and offer a slight cash discount. A perfect lunch! Ten friends were going to an event at the Bethlehem Public Library and we came to Swifty's for lunch afterward. Our server was Jaiden and her upbeat, pleasant and professional service made it fun. Jaiden was very knowledgeable about the menu, which is considerable. Everyone was very happy with their meals, which included chicken salad with walnuts, macaroni and cheese, Philly steak sandwiches, Irish Onion Soup, Chicken Sandwich, and more. There were choices of bread (brioche, rye, white, ciabatta) and sides (Cole slaw, French fries, macaroni salad, sweet potato fries and more). Our food all came out at the same time and was served on shabby chic tin trays. The amounts were generous and everyone got what they ordered and really liked their food. Jaiden made us a fresh pot of coffee, which turned out to be an outstanding brew attractively served in nice white mugs presented on white saucers with black under liners. Jaiden remembered each person's cream and sugar order. The place was quiet even though there were other tables around us enjoying their meals. This was important to our group because we're "older" and some have to strain to hear in noisy restaurants. To top off the lunch, Jaiden agreed to serve our cake to our friend who was having her 89th birthday. I was wary about asking her if we could bring in the dessert because I know some places would have frowned on it, so I asked her when I arrived and she pleasantly agreed. Our entire group had such a pleasant day at Swifty's ...the food, the atmosphere and the server were all top notch. Went to lunch here on my Albany visit restaurant tour! Swifty's is solid. Huge menu... sandwiches salads wraps pizza entrees ... it is hard to choose because their are so many tasty choices. They lean Irish so they have some old world dishes. I had a house salad with grilled chicken and a fried egg it was fresh big and satisfying. I love all homemade dressings and this place has it. Ugh, this is not what I wanted to be saying, but having been going to Swifty's regularly for over 25 years (previously Beffs), I can honestly say that I might not be back. It all started this summer. Let's commence this dreaded review with the service: It's slow, aloof, and inattentive. Tonight, we arrived at 5:30, received an app (fried cauliflower) at 6:15, and our meals at 6:35. This is pub food. Buffalo cauliflower, two salads, a hot dog and some fries. I might have been able to write it off as an odd night, but since this has been the case all summer, I can say with certainty that Swifty's service is officially terrible. Tonight we actually suspected that the waitress had neglected to put our order in. Next up, the food: It's been going downhill all summer, and tonight it hit the bottom....hard. The buffalo cauliflower is merely chunks of fried cauliflower (although finding the cauliflower in all the batter was tricky) that truly may have come from a bag, and then doused in buffalo sauce. The two salads were mediocre at best. The salmon was decent, but it was literally a piece of salmon over wilted greens (which I'm almost certain came from a bag). The hot dog was, well, a hot dog. My biggest pet peeve was the bun was the end piece of the "New England" style hot dog roll. Don't serve that piece. It defeats the purpose of the "New England" style. Ok, now the part that hurts the most.....the fries. Beffs/Swiftys fries have been my gold standard for 25 years, and this summer they don't even come close to a bronze standard. I'll start with the regular fries. They've always been hand cut, crispy outside, served piping hot. This summer, I have had at least three orders that were either A) leftovers that were heated in a microwave or B) the rock bottom of the batch. They've been like scraps. Onto the sweet potato fries. Tonight I was actually on the cusp of being offended when the waitress placed sweet potato crinkle fries on the table. What? And they were awful! Like inedible, and I have nothing against a decent frozen fry, but these tasted bad. As for the ambiance, well it's Swifty's outside. Nothing more, nothing less. I've always thought they should spruce up that area, but since the food used to be consistently delicious, and the service was good, the shabby outdoor area was easy enough to overlook. Oh, and I might add that all of the above ran me just under $100.00. (We did each get a mojito, but still...). So there it is. The saddest review I've ever written. Swiftys was my go to. read more

It's been four years since I've had a Swifty's Buffalo Burger. My opinion hasn't changed. The burger is still good, but not good enough for me to rave about. The menu says it is "hand breaded, deep fried crisp and golden finished in buffalo sauce." I did not find the finished product to be crisp on the outside. I thought it was soggy. It did get cooked to the requested rare, it was juicy, and the flavors were nice. Both the potato puffs and the fries were good. We tried three variations of the wings and I enjoyed them all: Buffalo; Sweet Thai Teriyaki; and Miss Sydney's Indu's Chutney. The chicken was nice and moist. The Mozzarella Sticks were average and the raspberry sauce was good. Our attempt to assemble a "Steve's Special" pizza was thwarted by the lack of Canadian bacon as a topping. So I think we ended up with bacon, sausage and jalapeño for our toppings. The pizza dough is very thin. Folding it in half cracks the crispy crust edge and causes the cheese and other toppings to dislodge from the dough. The flavor overall was decent however. Everything was washed down with pitchers of Allagash White and Brooklyn Dark Larger. Both were quite enjoyable from their plentiful list of craft brews. Our server could not have been more accommodating, agreeing with a smile to every unique request we posed. And so ended another successful and enjoyable TTTT gathering. read more

I came for the Buffalo burger: a deep fried hamburger covered in wing sauce? Yes, please! I lived in Buffalo for a few years, so anything Buffalo in the title gets one star from me right off the bat. However, this Yelp darling just didn't do it for me. I had hoped for a thick, crisp breading, akin to fried chicken. What I got was a slightly over cooked burger with a soggy breading. I'm not sure if the sog was because of the toss in the wing sauce or perhaps it sat for a bit, but there was no crunch factor. I'd rather just have a regular burger, side of wings...and also side of fries, because those were pretty tasty. And maybe also a side salad to balance things out a bit I've had friendly bar service the times I've been to this neighborhood favorite (especially with bartender Alex -- he was lovely) and am happy to return for beers, but it looks like a little more digging through the menu is needed before I can find a reason to return beyond a beer and a game. read more

Beff's of Delmar was recently sold a few months ago and it's now Swifty's Restaurant & Pub, named after the owner. This location at the Four Corners of Delmar brings back old memories for me since the last time I was here was over the summer of 1998 when it was Beff's. Back then, I worked around the corner and my coworkers and I would go out to lunch here each Friday sitting under the open air tent enjoying beers and burgers. The food at Beff's was decent. My current job in NH does not allow alcohol consumption during work hours. I miss the good ol' days! Present (2009), the big white open air tent still remains next to the restaurant with the same patio seating. Some lined shrubs separate the tent dining area from the Delaware Avenue sidewalk. I arrive at Swifty's after 5PM on a warm Saturday evening and decided to be seated under the tent for old times sake. There's a hostess station at the tent and I was seated quickly since the place was not mobbed, yet. The menu offers American/Irish pub fare including starters, burgers, sandwiches, pizza, dinner entrees, kids menu, and desserts. Some entrees on the menu include bangers & mash, seafood creole, prime rib, chicken parmesan, and grilled salmon. The prices are moderate. I think I'll get something smaller and order a Basket of Irish Chips ($3.49). 5 minutes later, WRONG!!! The basket of warm fresh cut crispy potato chips was HUGE, served with a side of BBQ sauce for dipping. I could not finish this by myself and had most of it boxed later on. For dinner, the Swifty's Reuben ($8.49) served with a light macaroni salad & pickle spear was excellent. This grilled sandwich had thin sliced tender corned beef, kraut, cheese, Russian dressing, and cole slaw on rye. The place began to get really busy and every table became filled up. My waitress had more tables to handle and was busy, so when I was finished, the hostess walked over, cleared my dishes, and boxed up the remaining food. The hostess returned with the boxed food and a dessert menu. For dessert, I was trying to decide between the Bread Pudding or Apple Tart. My waitress recommended the Bread Pudding ($4.99). It took about 10 minutes for the bread pudding to arrive which was brought out by another waitress. The bread pudding was served very hot, soft with melted butter (was that the vanilla sauce stated in the menu????) and topped with whipped cream. As a result, the taste was not sweet like many other bread puddings I've had. A sweet vanilla sauce would've made the pudding stand out. Overall, I enjoyed my dinner under the open air "big top" almost like having a meal 11 years ago with the old crew when I was a young professional just out of school. The food was very good (appetizer & entree) and the bread pudding was decent. The service was spot on and efficient despite the busy crowds. The hostess and the waitresses worked as a team. I only wished more restaurants would train their staff this way. Overall, 4.5 stars. read more

I used to go here when it was Beffs and you never had a bad meal or service. Parking has always been a challenge. The only positive since it became Swiftys is they broke up the dinning area by adding booths in the middle for privacy and ambience. The outdoor patio is always a plus and clearly would have been a better choice than the bar on Monday. I was meeting a friend for lunch and texted her to order wings as I would be there in five min. There were 3 people in the bar when I entered. I saw a pint of Harp sitting and thought my friend had ordered it for me; however, that was hers and had been sitting there 5 min. The barmaid continued to fiddle with making chang while the beer sat. I asked if she had ordered, no they never came back. When she did come over with the warm flat Old Harp,(barmaid became defensive) I tasted it and said make mine a Stella and ordered the wings. Instead of filling my order right away she went to the regular at the bar asked if he wanted another an promptly served him a Guinness(which shouldve been a long pour), then drew my pint. When I got my pint it had lipstick on it. I promptly brought it back. Instead of pouring me a new pint, she poured the old one into a new glass! Is this low class or what? Especially when you pay $6.50/pint! The wings took 15 min and were cooked to order and pipping hot. The sauce was a bit spicy for Med but no complaints other than it was extremely salty and I'm a saltaholic. Veggies were crisp. For me the service was inexcusable and if The owner Finds this practice acceptable then I myself will not return and will not recommend to anyone else. I agree also with Marney's review. read more

A bit of a Delmar institution as far as watering holes go. They put out consistently decent pub food. All of the usual suspects deliver, like the wings, burgers, wraps, fries, etc. The inside dining area is somewhat small, but the kitchen is efficient and they turn their tables over pretty well. There is also a big outside seating area, under a tent with heating lamps, which is pretty popular. The inside bar area is friendly and can be lively (in a good way). Bar staff is friendly and professional. Great atmosphere to watch a game or tip a couple back with a few friends. It's in a walk-friendly area and is very near to a couple other standouts (O'Slattery's, Twisted Vine), so you can make a night of it with some variety. read more

On a recent visit, service was exceptionally friendly and helpful, despite the fact that our group had a lot of special requests. They were running a special of a large pizza and 24 wings, which we were able to split into three flavors. We tried medium, sweet Thai teriyaki, and indu chutney. I liked the traditional buffalo wings the best, but I wasn't really blown away by any of them. They weren't even remotely crispy, and some of the meat was a bit chewy. The pizza was also just ok. It had a very thin crust that was crisp on the edges but a little too soft in the middle. However, the sausage was crisped on the top and the jalapeños were nicely spicy. We also tried some mozzarella sticks, which were pretty generic (definitely frozen rather than made in house). The best part of our meal was the famous buffalo burger, which is deep fried and served with hot sauce. Although I wish the batter was a little more crispy, I really liked the hot sauce flavors and how tender the meat was.
