My son who has severe anxiety & social anxiety found the strength to shop at SWENSONS SHOE STORE. He was recently diagnosed with Plantar fasciitis. He went into the shop and tried on a pair of slip-on sandals. Happy with the shoes he tried on, the employee went to the back and brought out a box. My son paid and left. He only wore the shoes into the Podiatrist office. The Podiatrist informed him he was sold women's shoes that was why they didn't feel right. When he took the shoes back they would not exchange them for the men's shoe he was supposed to get. He had to pay for yet another pair of shoes. Upon returning to the store with my son, the man (possible owner) was rude and unwilling to make THEIR mistake right. We will never shop there again and we will definitely be sharing our experience with everyone we know! It is a shame when you want to support a local store and the customer service is so pathetic. read more

Right on Main Street in Jackson CA is Swensen's shoe store. They also sell apparel and service shoe repairs. The store has been here for quite awhile. It has changed owners over the years. But still offer quality brand name shoes. They carry brands: Birkenstock, Clarks, SAS, Merrill, Teva, Red Wing, Vans, Naturalizer...and a bunch more. Pumps, high heels, hiking boots, dress sandals, athletic sandals, walking shoes, work boots...so on. Even though the inventory is not as vast as a big box store, they do carry a big enough selection in women, men, and children sizes to make it worth your while to drop on in for your shoe shopping needs. Organized, all of the best brands and a friendly owner in an adorable historic row of shops. The owner was so friendly and helpful finding shoes for three of our kiddos. I went in years ago after the Original Swenson family sold it. I had just gotten done working out and was in my exercise clothes. Their were two ladies in the shop working, one was a little older, maybe 60. No one was in the shop when I entered. They were talking and didn't acknowledge my entry. No biggie. I was looking around when two nicely dressed women walked in. They about fell over themselves to go help them. I then noticed a pair of shoes that I owned, that I purchased at famous foot ware for 49$. I picked up the shoe and almost choked as the price was 149$. I left and have never gone back. It's funny how people are treated when they aren't dressed like they have money. You never know who's business you might loose by making assumptions. read more

My 3 girls and I walked in thinking we might buy some vans. We were excited to be out and walking around. We went into the store, a young white lady was helping a customer, being very friendly and talkative with her white customer. She and another worker, also young white girl, looked at me and my indian kids up and down and proceeded to ignore us as we walked all around the store. The one girl was just standing there. No hello. No smile. We made it around the whole store, mind you no other customers in the whole place, without one word uttered to us. So much for patronizing local vendors. Very disheartened with our experience at this shop. Oh yeah and nobody was wearing a mask. Thankfully most of the other shop tenders were friendly, welcoming and wearing masks in Jackson. read more

I visited this store to inquire about having a pair of Wolverine boots fixed. When I entered the store, a woman who works there was in the back end of the store and didn't offer to help me until I approached her. I was directed to the repair shop and the person at the repair counter told me they only fix soles that can be sewn on. He was pretty nice about it. However, when I reentered the store and said I would like to find another pair of boots, the woman who helped me just pointed at the Merrells and then walked away to the counter...even though there was no one there waiting to be helped. She just stared straight ahead instead of glancing over at me and offering any further assistance. I felt ignored so I left, and probably won't return. read more

I bought a pair of work shoes and was told at the time of purchase that I could return them within thirty days with a receipt. I tried to return the shoes four days later and was told that they couldn't take them back because I didn't have the shoe box and packing materials. I had my receipt and had paid cash for them and they wouldn't take them back without a box. Terrible customer service! I will never shop at this place again!!! read more

Because of their total disregard of health regulations and respect for their customers, I won't be returning -- I'd rather take the money that I had planned to spend on supporting local business and give it to a chain store that has the decency and courtesy to keep their customers safe. read more

These people are very rude. I have spent a lot of money there throughout the years. I was returning shoes that did not fit my husband. One of the girls was pleasant but the other was just a complete snot. She rolled her eyes and sighed. I did not have the right receipt so I had to go back. Now I know where the younger on gets her attitude. The mother greeted me in the same way. A lot of sighing and what not. 'Now this is the only pair we have, bla, bla.' I was ready to quit bowling due to horrible arthritis in big toe joint from numerous turf toe injuries when I was young. I brought in my Dexter bowling shoes and Adam customized my shoes. I bowled pain free last night for the first time in years. I am thrilled and will be bringing in another pair as a back up. They carry several brands to accommodate people with foot/ankle problems. When we got there and my daughter was looking around, I talked to the salesman working there and he was very friendly. We talked about the old store vs the new store about the holidays coming up. He was very nice. I got my daughter a pair of Vans that were black with flowers, that the guy working there and I dubbed "like grandmas couch." Which I guess is cool now. :) Anyways, my daughter loved them. We accidentally received too big of a size and didn't notice until the next morning. The next day the sales lady helped us with the exchange and she was very nice about letting us exchange them quickly with no fuss (we had our receipt). It is hard living up country and finding good quality shoes for the kids that are still "cool," but I know we can find them there. We will be back. read more

I was passing thru Jackson and decided to stop at Swensen's. I was surprised to see the extensive line of fine work boots they had in store. I met one of the Managers, I think she might have been the owner! and I must say I have travel far and extensive to some of the finest stores in the country and this store is by far one of the best. The store was busy, but what made me give this store 5 Stars is that she was a very attentive and knowledgeable. I will be back to buy my Redwing boots before the holiday and while I'm miles aways from this store I would travel to give them my business because they care a rarity in the shoe business world. I took some boots to get new heels. When I was waiting I found another pair of boots that I tried on and really liked but they were a higher ticket item and I wanted to think about it. Fast forward about 8 weeks, which granted is a while, but I finally had the time to make a purchase so I called to inquire if they still had the boots and asked if I could purchase them over the phone. The girl was so snotty. She "informed me," in her completely irritated tone, that "they" had already gone to the warehouse and she'd check on it and get back to me. Needless to say I never received a call back. I cannot tell you how completely discourteous her tone was with me from start to finish of the conversation. I will not spend another dollar in this store. I ordered the boots on line and the business lost out on the money, over $100. What a shame for a local business in a small town to treat their customers in this manner. I would definitely not recommend them. read more
