Great food and a nice variety of taco options. Decent drink options as well. Outside seating only, and alcohol needs to stay close. Overall the food is defiantly worth the slight wait it takes to get. read more

Swell Taco - Carnitas and rockfish tacos - Tacos Near Me - Homer, Alaska

Hands-down the best food we've had in Alaska; and maybe the best street tacos ever! We have been living in Alaska for a couple of years now, and Swell Taco in Homer is officially our favorite spot. The location is beautiful, featuring a very cute outdoor setup right on the ocean with amazing views. Even though they were busy with a long line, the service was outstanding, kind, warm, and engaging. They were incredibly thorough, and our order came out exactly right. I also noticed that everything coming out to other tables looked consistently spot-on, with everyone around us loving their food. As someone who eats gluten-free, the fact that 80% of their menu is GF was phenomenal, and it actually tastes incredible! Their corn tortillas are genuinely the best I have had anywhere. Their flavor combinations are extremely well thought out and expertly executed. We tried the fried rockfish, the halibut cheek, and the Carne Asada. The fish-based tacos were lovely, as the texture was perfect. The flavor profile on the Carne Asada was actually my favorite of the three, but the meat itself was just a little too tough for my full appreciation. Still, the seasonings on all three tacos were absolute perfection. Do not skip the coconut limeade! It was such a treat: perfectly balanced, not too sweet, and very well done. Swell Taco is a must-visit in Homer. We will be dreaming about these tacos until our next trip! read more

Cruised down to Homer spit today. It's been at least 10+ yrs since the last time I was there. Some new things in town. But the spit pretty much looks the same. Ate some tacos at Swell Taco. Birria tacos were delish. Packed with meat. And the consume was warm and savory. Steak taco was a little tough. Generous portion of meat. Needed salt. The pickled onions gave it a nice tang. Coconut limeade was refreshing and yummy. The hibiscus agua fresca wasn't my cup of tea. Lacked flavor. Service was great, but our food took a while to come out. But I'm still happy we tried it. read more

Once again, Yelp didn't disappoint! Swell Taco was the best fish taco I've ever had! Fresh fish right off the boat, house made tortillas, and delicious pico on top. Always love a good local spot. Outdoor seating, and a surprising stellar beer selection on top. Staff was super friendly too which is always appreciated. Don't forget to scope out the hot sauce selection too! Some fun Alaskan options! read more

Tried the rockfish taco, guac and chips, and carnita taco. Guac was amazing-great flavor-far exceeded my expectations as someone from the land of Tex-Mex. Sauce, pico, and the pineapple/habanero added much flavor to the tacos. Friendly service in a quaint atmosphere on the spit. read more

Swell Taco - Birria/Rockfish/Cheaky tacos - Tacos Near Me - Homer, Alaska

Ordered Rockfish, halibut cheek and birria tacos. Rockfish we more traditional fish tacos with shredded cabbage and crema. Good. The halibut cheeks also had crema and micro greens. Really good. But the Birria, slowed cooked beef and Oaxaca cheese with a cup of broth was the star. If you don't get anything else here get the birria. read more

Have you seen the clip where there is a guy in a fast food restaurant and he's the only one who doesn't get his food? Yeah, we felt like that guy. Everyone else around us was getting their tacos, and we were last, despite arriving not last. However, the tacos and elote were delicious and the halibut and rockfish were fresh and tender!! Bomb.com fish tacos. I usually never order halibut or salmon while out - but omg so freaking good! We got the CHEEKY HALIBUT TACOS one with and one without lime crema && the Halibut was cooked to perfection && tasted so fresh it just melted into your mouth. The corn tortilla, which I'm assuming was home made, was sooooo flavorful && delish! I wanted more of just the tortilla!!!! Topped with some pretty flavorful micro greens! Quick and easy! read more

Birria taco with an Alaskan brewed root beer....10/10 highly recommend. Ate it so fast I forgot to take a pic! Husband had the cheeky halibut and carnitas he says solid 8/10 on each. He went with the Mexican coke to wash it all down. Fun times on the Homer Spit, we will be back :) read more

This place opened in May of 2022 and filled a need for a Mexi-Cali taco joint in Homer. It's one of the walk up shops along the spit so you can eat at the picnic tables, or take your food to go back to your lodging or have a picnic on the beach. Since Homer is back to being insanely busy on the weekends in summer it's nice to have food options that don't require reservations. It was a Friday & I couldn't get into the 5 sit down places I called, and while I should know better I didn't know if we were staying in town that day lol. Swell came to our rescue with some yummy tacos. We ordered the rockfish, halibut cheek, carne asada tacos, and the ceviche. All the tacos were delicious with the favorite being the rockfish taco. The corn tortillas are made in house & didn't fall apart even though the tacos were loaded up with toppings. They had a great hot sauce selection including many flavors of the local barnacle kelp hot sauce. It would be nice to see an in house salsa or hot sauce that can be added onto the tacos. The tacos were delicious my favorite being the rockfish & halibut cheek. The carne asada was good, but not as flavorful as the fish taco options. The ceviche was loaded with fresh caught fish, but the flavors were pretty bland. Definitely could've used some more salt. Service was quick & friendly. The food didn't take long to be made even though there were plenty of customers. I hope they could serve some beer here in the future as it would go great with the tacos! Definitely give this taco stand a try! read more

Excellent tacos, quesadillas, beer and staff. Quick service and their tacos are an incredible combo of flavor of sauces, diverse meat options, and their homemade tortillas are to die for. I love that they have Grace Ridge Brewery options on tap. I feel like not many places offer their beer in Homer, even for being a Homer brewery. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. The Rockfish and halibut taco was amazing. Ceviche was a bit fishy for my taste, but it was my first time eating 3 types of fish in ceviche. The chips were seasoned and generously given. "Moe" is what I was told that humpty dumpty's name was at swell taco! Customer service is what it's all about. She is rude and disgusting. I'm in Baja for weeks on end, several times a year competing in all the long distance endurance desert races down there, and I basically survive on tacos, up, down, east and west across the Baja peninsula, you could say at this point I'm a taco connoisseur. I just ordered almost one of everything on the menu at Swell Taco, and every taco in Mexico from this point on will be a disappointment. Everything I just ate, one after another, was the best taco I've ever had. The tortillas were soft and fluffy, the carnitas sweet and savory beyond belief, the birria, The onions were hidden in e cheese, I mean, any description I give wont do it justice, everything is just Swell Taco holds the title as far as I'm concerned. They're the best tacos I've ever had. If you're near Homer AK, go out on the spit, grab yourself one of everything. The rockfish taco at Swell Tacos is the best fish taco that we've ever had! We also ordered the carne asada taco, halibut taco, and an order of chips with guac. They were all very, very good but the rockfish really stood out! Swell Taco is located on the spit so it's in a cool spot but in the heart of tourist season it probably gets super busy! Seating is outside but there is overhead covering if the weather gets rainy. The rockfish taco was fried perfectly and had great flavor. The chipotle cream was a delicious addition to the taco as well. The other two tacos were also delicious - great seasoning and sauces to go with each that really elevated them. The chips had a little bit of spice to them and the guacamole was creamy and delicious while being a bit lime forward. Highly, highly recommend Swell Taco! read more
