When we went to the shop on 4/1/2023, we were advised that the dress would be altered from a size 14 to fit my daughter who is a size 6. For whatever reason, the bottom of the dress was not altered to her measurements. When we tried the dress on 4/10/2023, there is a huge gap at the waist that allows a person to see straight down the back of the dress. Her prom was 4/15/2023 so we had to take it to a seamstress in Indianapolis to take the dress in further. There was about 3 inches of dress that had to be removed. We were charged $55 for the services. When i spoke to Shetland, she agreed to a partial refund of $26. In our conversation you cited the lack of time as the reason that you were not able to complete the alterations as we agreed on 4/1. My response was that you should not have accepted the job given the tight timeline if you were not sure that you would be able to do the job as agreed. If you had been open about your reservations with altering the dress, we had an agreement with Art at La Merite dress shop to not purchase the dress. But you said that you could do it so we bought the dress and paid for the alterations. When my sister went to get the $26 dollar's yesterday, Svetlana only gave her $17 and told her to get out of her shop. Incredibly rude, unprofessional, and poor quality work. I would NEVER allow to go near a garment again

It felt very unprofessional and uncomfortable. When I explained that I needed my dress taken in, they said they couldn't do it, which is honestly ridiculous for a place that specializes in alterations. The entire interaction was rude and dismissive. I would not recommend this place if you want quality service or basic respect as a customer.

However, they had the dress for 4 months and did not get it finished until less than a week before the wedding! They blamed my daughter that she gave the dress to them late! She dropped it off in February and the wedding is in May. Late? They waited until the last minute. Second they told her at the first fitting, she was too fat for the dress and needed to lose weight! My daughter would not get the dress if it was the wrong size. They said that they would let it out. They did not, they made it tighter. Third, they agreed to put in buttons on the bodice but because they were not finished with it, they rushed it and sewed in a zipper crooked. We could not zip it when she brought it home. Fourth, they partially unattached the satin ribbon belt to put in the zipper. I get that, but not tack it back on? So I had to sew in hook and eyes down the dress and re attach the belt and sewed on any lace and applique that was not sewn on. They owe me $$$$!

One of my sister's dresses needed a bustle but it was a princess style poofy dress which can complicate things and Elaine did an amazing job with working on a French bustle. It turned out amazing. They made sure everything fit perfectly and they are always so patient making sure all our needs are met. Great prices for high quality work! Highly recommend for all occasions!!!

My dream dress was long sleeve lace, yet I purchased a strapless plunging neckline dress with floral appliqué. I tried it on every day for a week hating the dress more with each try on...then I called Custom Alterations for a hem and take in, she answered and swiftly got me on the schedule. When I arrived at my appt I basically let her know I despised the dress and wanted to give it a complete makeover. I thought she was going to tell me I was crazy especially coming to her LESS THAN 8 WEEKS BEFORE MY WEDDING...but she was confident and totally up for whatever I wanted to do! I told her my long list of things I wanted to change and shared many Pinterest photos with her, and she emailed me an invoice later listing all the changes I wanted with pricing. She was transparent about pricing, timeline, and the dress's limitations...really great communication!! She created sleeves including buttons, loops, and straps for attachment. Removed, recreated, re attached and hemmed my skirt. And she recreated the bodice and added lace. I came to her really upset with the dress I purchased and left a few short weeks later with the dress I envisioned myself in. It looked absolutely amazing and nothing like the original dress at all. I love when someone has a talent they are passionate about and do that thing really well. And that is Peggy and her team at Custom Alterations. They are true artists and witnessing their creations was inspiring! Plus Peggy's amazing customer service as a business owner was remarkable. Very friendly and personable. Here's some before and after photos!
