I originally stopped by in search of pottery classes--and was delighted to find not only that they offer them, but also that a new session begins on October 13th. In addition, there's a Fall Break Art Camp for grades 2-5, where children will experiment with a range of media including watercolor, acrylics, and collage. As I walked through the space, I was able to watch artists at work and enjoy the current gallery exhibits on display. The atmosphere was inspiring and welcoming. Adult fall classes--running October 6th through December 13th--are also available, covering both visual and ceramic arts. Each class is taught by individual instructors, making it approachable for students of all levels. Best of all, online registration makes it simple to sign up. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that such a wonderful resource has been right in my neighborhood all along. It was a great experience, and I've already registered for pottery classes--something I'm really excited about! They market themselves as a developmental program, but once they take your $1,500, player development ceases unless your child is one of the "favorites." Instead, you are paying a premium just for your child to serve as the practice squad for the preferred players. ​The blatant favoritism is glaring. The preferred players stay on the court to accumulate minutes even when they are consistently turning over the ball, making critical errors, and causing the team to lose. Meanwhile, the benched players are never given a chance. Kids get zero equal opportunity or playing time without parents constantly advocating. Furthermore, the organization has zero allegiance to the families who paid; if they think they can't win, they will pull outside players from other places and plug them in, stripping opportunities away from the kids who have been there. Thus, on top of registration, you are forced to pay gate fees at every tournament just to sit there and watch other kids play. The leadership and staff are entirely toxic. The current 9th grade coach, Dylan, is completely disrespectful and unprofessional. The director, Jordan, actively emboldens and protects this behavior, giving Dylan complete deference simply because he allegedly played professionally overseas--as if that automatically makes him a competent or respectful youth coach. ​Because of the leadership, the actual training is a joke. If the coach is upset about a game performance, his response is to just smoke the team--making them run back and forth instead of actually drilling the plays they need to know. It's completely counterintuitive. When Jordan steps in or interrupts, he just hollers at the kids as if they should have ESP and automatically understand his instructions, even though they don't work with him consistently. The kids just end up frustrated and confused. To top it off, the HoopSeen circuit they play on is a total travesty and a blatant money grab. The odds are completely stacked against the children and it is incredibly demoralizing. A 15-year-old child will routinely be matched up against 17- and 18-year-olds who are reclassing or playing down. Because of normal growth and development, these older kids are obviously much taller and stronger, making the games entirely unfair. It's hard to believe reputable scouts would come to these tournaments because it's a hodgepodge mess where people lie about what team they qualify to be on. Overall, Suwanee Sports Academy staff do not care about training, growth, or the kids' well-being; they only care about winning and using parents as wallets. The complete lack of respect for paying repeat patrons has been eye-opening, disheartening, and extremely disappointing. The old leadership is missed. Save your money and your child's confidence--avoid this place at all costs!

I learn from them every day. Not just about riding, but about what it takes to own a horse. I learn from when the vet comes, and the farrier. I am a much more confident horse person. This time I decided to make a gift for the boy instead of a little treasure for myself. So I searched for a place that's close to my suburban home and found Splatters. I made my way over there all ready to paint a mug for the cute boy's bday. The service was ok, but there was a new girl who didn't seem to know what she was doing. I didn't care much, though, because I was distracted by the like 8 bazillion little girls that came in for a birthday party at the exact same time. Shoot. Me. Now. I considered leaving, but needed the gift. I set out to find my mug and was thoroughly disappointed by their selection. They only had a dainty teacup-like mug you'd make for your grandmother, a big ol' soup-sized mug that would be great for some of my famous French Onion, but not good for a gift for the boy, and then like 10 "normal" mugs....except they all said MOM on them. Really!? I actually considered getting out my nail file and sanding it down, but instead decided to make him an ice cream bowl. Bleh. Whatevs. Other than the annoyance of 80 million children shrieking in the back room while I was concentrating on re-creating the Kenyan flag in paint (hard as hell, man!!), the rest of the experience was ok. When I tried to contact them to cancel the camp within their cancellation period, the phone only rang and did not go to a voice mail. After a couple more attempts I e-mailed them and finally received acknowledgement that they would cancel her camp and issue a refund. After months of trying to contact with them asking for an update on my refund, I was only given excuses and was constantly told that the person responsible for issuing the refund was always busy and could not talk at that time. This place is a scam and I would never trust the care of my child to them.

I found out about Hidden Oaks while I was searching for a riding lesson for my daughter. My kids…read morehave taken lessons at The Chastain Park in Buckhead and at The Equestrian Reserve in Alpharetta. I was looking for something closer and this seemed perfect. Until I got in touch with Susie. It started going south from that moment on. It started with no response to calls or voicemails. After sending her a text message I get a curt response about having no availability in summer. After inquiring about the availability for Fall - and another follow up message - I get a spot being told that there will be no trial class and that we need to commit to weekly lessons. Which I did. Here is what was shocking. We drive up to the school and call her from the gates. She instructs me to take the first right. I go in - but miss the first right (because it is not a paved road and it did not seem right to take that right :). "Ms." Susie waits for me at the end of this drive way - with hands on her hips - she SCOLDS me saying " I TOLD YOU TO TAKE THE FIRST RIGHT. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST RIGT". I still can't believe that I got scolded that way by an adult!! I can't imagine how she might be teaching the kids!! I told her that she is an incredibly rude person and drove back home. I am just shocked at the fact that a business can run despite such a low quality. Very disappointing.
