Arrived at 405pm for my 4pm rsvp and they somehow opened at 4, yet had people packing the bar, and were already out of ribeye and mashed potatoes. As of 430 they were turning people away due to being out of literally everything except some chicken. I understand not wanting to waste food but... if you're out of food by 30min past your opening time then you're doing something seriously wrong. My order is still not out. This is barbecue. It has been 1 hour and I am only one of three parties at tables. The waitress is incredibly nice but can't make up for ungodly slow service. When my food finally came out over an hour later, they literally brought 2 items out of maybe 10 I ordered. Everything else they were out of an hour after I ordered, 5 minutes after opening. HOW does this happen??? I didn't have to pay for my single ribeye and Mac and cheese which is the only somewhat not negative factor but I didn't get anything else I ordered either. Pretty beyond disappointed. I was incredibly calm and polite, even asking how I can prevent this in the future. Zero suggestions from waitress or manager who aggressively grabbed the receipt off the table and went elsewhere in tears. I gather somehow this was a really bad day for them? But I have no idea how I don't get screwed in the future either when I rsvp'd. Maybe I'll have to try to go by phone next time and ask if they're sure they have everything. I came here to celebrate my birthday on July 2. I was greeted upon entry which is always a plus. My server was super pleasant which is another plus. For starters I ordered a peach margarita and lemon pepper smoked wings, both were amazing! For my entree I chose the two meat plate with ribs, brisket, Mac and cheese and collard greens. The ribs were outstanding. They had a perfect bite as ribs should be, not "falling off the bone". The brisket however was a bit overcooked yet tasty. The sides were great and portions were generous. Was out from a event in Cleveland and was hungry for soulful BBQ, this place was close and just recently recommended by a friend. The weather was horrible and snowing, but it didn't stop us. It's a small establishment with a bar area. With just a few high top tables left as there was a large party there celebrating a birthday, we couldn't get a high chair due to that, but that's ok. We ordered a rib dinner, a steak dinner and pulled pork sandwich, with the sides of mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, and collards/cabbage. The sauce on the ribs was awesome! They ran out of steak so we were offered brisket instead, and two-6 piece wings! Brisket was melt in your mouth and very flavorful! We drive by this place everyday and finally decided to give it a try for happy hour. Ranking this place a three as there were pros and cons. Con- when we first entered we couldn't tell if the place was rented out for a birthday party or if it was still open for the public. We took a seat at the bar and we had to wait so long to even order a drink, we actually were a minute away from just saying "let's go elsewhere". Once we were served we ordered two drinks from the happy hour menu, one was brought out but the other also took awhile. We ordered 10 chicken wings with ranch, they did not bring out the ranch which was funny since they did ask if we wanted that. Due to how slow the service was, we also ordered our dinner and two more drinks from the happy hour menu, the dinner overall was good, Mac and cheese I have had better. It was also extremely loud there which again could have been due to it being a party. Once we got our bill we noticed none of the drinks had the happy hour deal so definitely make sure to check the bill before paying! Wonderful BBQ that is "high on the hog." Lots of food with a platter order. Good sides. I like the interior. The bar is big and full with lots of TVs. The walls have fun pictures and sayings on them, and a TV had sports playing. A high-top table with stools divided the bar area from the dining area. Was nice. Great bar and restaurant on the corner of Madison and W 117th. It is a shame that the Lido Lounge closed down because this would've been the perfect stop on the way up there. I've been meaning to go here for quite a while since i live in the neighborhood, but for some reason, I've just never stopped by today's visit was outstanding, all around! The service was excellent.!my corned and I weren't sure where to order for takeout , so we stood by the door by the bar for about half a minute before an employee swooped right in with a lovely greeting and took us to where we could order takeout. She was so super sweet and helpful. When you walk in the door, it smells amazing and you know with fair certainty that the food will be slamming it was, and then some!! I ordered the pulled pork meat plate with chosen sides of Mac and cheese and corn bread. I also ordered a slice of red velvet cake. The pulled pork is incredibly tender and juicy and the bbq sauce is delicious. The potion size exceeded my expectations., too. The corn bread was moist and flavorful with a perfect texture. Mac and cheese is difficult to get right but SPW hot the nail in the head ! Super cheesy, great cheese pull, and flavorful. Red velvet cake was also a hit! The cream cheese frosting was divine and the cake was moist and flavorful. Tasted like childhood! Prices were reasonable. Really good barbecue. We got a pan of their pulled pork which was ate up quick. The bbq sauce they provided was excellent as well. I highly recommend getting their wings. Sweet Pork Wilsons is a local family-owned business that has solid BBQ offerings in a casual setting. Atmosphere (4 out of 5): There's plenty of indoor seating both restaurant style and bar style. You'll be able to choose whether to sit at high tables or a bar near TVs in a larger group or solo, or take a standard 4-seater table on the other side. Service (4.5 out of 5): The menu is online and relatively straightforward. You can order both for to-go/pick-up or to eat-in (which is what I opted for) The server was very attentive and always asking if there's anything I needed. Halfway through the meal, the owner came out and checked in as well. I originally wasn't sure it was the owner as the staff weren't wearing anything distinguishing. Upon chatting with myself and other tables, the owner then went back to the kitchen and made us all a sample of the chicken cheesesteak just for us to try free of charge. He's definitely passionate about his food! Food (4 out of 5): I had the 2 meat 2 side platter with sweet pork ribs and brisket, and mac and cheese and coleslaw. The ribs were amazingly balanced with the sweet sauce and the meat was very tender. The brisket was slightly drier but was still very good. The sample of the chicken cheesesteak was also fantastic and the ratio of chicken to veggies was on point - though I am notably picky about seasoning and I would've liked a bit more. The mac-and-cheese could've been a bit warmer, but was solid overall Texas-style and contained more textures (bread crumbs?) than just pasta and cheese. The coleslaw was slightly disappointing as it was very watery, but the flavor was fine. Overall a very positive meal and despite the heavy meal, I didn't feel bloated at all. Value (3.5 out of 5) - Solid portions with average prices. 2 meat and 2 side was $30. Chicken cheesesteak was a very nice bonus but was also a special treat. Sweet Pork Wilsons is one of the new places that have popped up along Madison as it continues to gentrify. It is in the former site of a long-standing local bar. Fortunately, Sweet Pork Wilsons was able to maintain the feeling of the neighborhood bar while updating the rest of the space to a modern restaurant. They are currently going through a soft opening with the grand opening over Labor Day weekend. They are currently open daily at noon, although this isn't posted anywhere that you can see it. The staff is great. You can tell they are serious about building a great BBQ restaurant. I had the brisket, along with some cornbread. Each was as close to perfect as you can get. (Although, I do like my brisket slices a bit thicker. ) The BBQ sauce is delicious. It had a bit of vinegar bite, but not too much spice to make it overbearing. The cornbread was perfect. Full disclosure: I've been friends with the owner since 1994. He's my brother from another mother. The theme of this review is, consistency. Food: You'd be hard pressed to find better ribs than what you can find at SPW. When it's right, it's competition level good. The turkey and salmon are world-class. These 3 items are in elite conversation with ANY pit master in the world. However, the challenge with new entrepreneur is establishing consistency. The thing the separates major bbq chains from local shops is consistency. Example, I'm not a Mission BBQ fan, but I KNOW exactly what to expect at any given time, regardless of location. It's how you build trust. Although the food to ME isn't great, it's consistently what it is. - The sides at SPW are ok. I don't go for the sides. Ambiance: Awesome. It's a BBQ spot. But not a greasy spoon. It has a hip vibe to it. Service: Again, when it's good, it's great. The intentions are in the right place, but you need the infrastructure to execute, and the right people. It's a process to fulfill potential. Go for the BBQ, stay for the people, and give feedback. There aren't many places with this level of food. A lot of places distract you with stuff, but fail miserably at food. So, I'll keep supporting and providing feedback, and hopefully watch SPW become a national sensation that it's capable of becoming. read more

The sidewalks had not been adequately shovels or cleared is snow so walking from the parking lot to the front t to enter was a little hazardous. All I can say is ******* WOW. I came here before a Guardians game and had the chicken and brisket. The chicken was amazing and packed full of flavor. OK don't hate me but I'm going to say it. It was moist not dry. The brisket was very good but a little fatty and I had to get used to that fatty texture but it grew on me and was absolutely awesome. I went back a few weeks later but they weren't open yet. I plan on hitting this place up every chance I get to my travels to PA from MI. The grill master was very friendly and brought me extra meat fresh off the grill and the portions were exceedingly huge and more than the half pound I paid for.
