Wanted to try this place because my wife loves ice cream. I wasn't in the mood for ice cream so I got a strawberry banana smoothie. The employee asked if I wanted and "sweetener" which I thought was odd because a smoothie can be sweet on its own. But I asked for honey and safe to say it tased like the opposite of honey, let alone a strawberry banana smoothie. Wawa makes better smoothies than this. Very good quality, fresh and creamy ice cream. We are from a bit more down south and it has been a struggle to find fresh, creamy ice cream around here (big preference for soft serve and water ice around these parts). This stuff is legit. Two things that could be improved: the scoop sizes are small and the spoons are cruddy quality, they bend and snap very easily. The photo is of a large, four scoops at $9. Ice cream seems to be expensive around here in general, so it's not exorbitant, but bigger scoops would be better. First time we went here I got a size small and was so disappointed by how small the size was (they do not have medium - only small or large) Aside from ice cream: the place is very nice. Great ambience. It's a joint ice cream/cafe and they serve colombe coffee - which is legit stuff. We haven't tried their coffee but it's likely good, because colombe coffee is excellent. read more

Sweet Nel's was AWESOME! This eatery has some unique features. For one, the interior is large, it has a lounge area, at the front, plenty of outdoor seating, and they give you a mini scoop, of any flavor.... on top of your selection....for free. A VERY NICE TOUCH. I've been to hundreds of sweet shops..... NONE do the mini scoop. That's on top of large portions, which were greatly appreciated. The selections of ice cream and gelato are huge and their staff are very friendly, patient, and quick to serve. Came in after visiting Hagley on a rainy day. We purchased an array of food and drinks: cinnamon bun crepes, waffles with fresh fruit, mango sorbet, baklava and espresso chip gelato, spinach pies, a cappuccino, and a latte. The consensus: The food was great! We enjoyed everything we ordered. One comment about the mango sorbet was that it didn't really taste like mango, but other than that, everything received positive praise. We however we're not super fans of their coffee. The iced vanilla latte had too much vanilla syrup (we received it all separated) and didn't have a strong espresso taste. The cappuccino was described as "just okay" which is okay! Big crepe that's good enough to share! We got the blueberry, strawberry, banana with nutella crepe. It came out quickly and was stuffed with fruit. If you're not into it they also have sorbet which is dairy free and other ice cream options which topping choices. I settled on lemon pie which looked like it had pieces of lemon cake swirled in. Also topped it with sea salt caramel. YUM. I chose a single thinking it meant one scoop, but I guess it doesn't. I really just wanted a taste so if you are like me they have a kids size as well. My friend was with me and just got a brownie. Unfortunately that was not as good. A little hard and not as oooey gooey as he hoped for. Overall I would go back. A first at Sweet Nel's and it did not disappoint! The options were AHMAZING and my eyes were so much bigger than my stomach! I ended up snagging some scoops and got a double scoop of the baklava gelato and stracciatella gelato. I don't know if it's just me but I can never find stracciatella almost anywhere nowadays. Great ice cream and 5 stars for the supper helpful staff. I got the chocolate marshmallow and banana Pb and loved them both. My parents got the brownie sundae which was good as well. Also, it's not as sweet as other places which is good because most places leave me with feeling like I got diabetes but this place was just the right amount of sweet and fresh. So whenever I searched coffee shop near me this place would pop up. It does say coffee in big bold letters on the outside of their store. However, if you're a coffee connoisseur this is definitely not the place for you. I ordered a macchiato they had no idea what it was. It's not on the menu nor is a cortado. So I went with a shot of espresso with a splash of hot milk. It was quite flavor less. I don't think an espresso bean or dark bean was used to make the espresso. There was no whip or froth to the milk and definitely no decoration. Let's call this what it is an ice cream, gelato, crêpe shop. This is not a coffee shop. Yes they serve coffee but in my opinion it's not a coffee shop. There are many places that serve coffee that are not coffee shops. You will not get the coffee you're looking for here unless you're used to getting a 7-Eleven black coffee. If you like a lot of sugar then this is the place for you. I did see some of their crêpes and they looked amazing. They have hundreds of different flavors of ice cream and gelato's or so it seemed. I'm giving them a one star based strictly on the fact that they're advertising themselves as a coffee shop on yelp and on their storefront when they are clearly are NOT a coffee shop. We walked in 10 mins to closing not realizing their hours. Walking in any business near close is risky as the employees are usually checked out and your options can be limited. This was NOT the case here.... Isabella and Hunter treated us all with such respect and were so helpful! I had a hard time picking an ice cream flavor since there were so many great options, and they both did everything they could to describe each flavor and help me decide. I'm ridiculously indecisive about pretty much everything, but choosing ice cream flavors seems to be one of the most difficult decisions for me to make --- it's so hard to choose just one when all of them are so delicious! That's why I LOVE the concept of the "Nellie" --- an extra mini scoop of ice cream of any flavor on top of your main flavor choice as offered at Sweet Nel's. They offer a wide variety of ice cream flavors, from the standard vanilla, chocolate, and chocolate chip cookie dough all the way to more unique flavors like cinnamon caramel swirl, banana peanut butter chip, and cotton candy. The single portions are huge and I have yet to try a flavor I didn't like. Additionally, they have about a dozen flavors of gelato that are pretty good as well (it's no Italian gelato, but really nothing in the US compares). Last night, I tried a "single" gelato ($4.50) with half sea salt caramel and half hazelnut with a vanilla stracchiatella Nellie scoop --- and it was delicious and way more than I was able to finish. I also appreciate the extensive seating options --- comfy armchairs, tables of different sizes, barstools and counter, or even outdoor tables --- and the fact that you can linger for hours to study or catch up with a friend. I feel bad leaving a negative review, but when you leave your store in the hands of teenagers that don't care, things like this happen. We went there to celebrate a milestone for one of my children. The staff was rude. We ordered a cookie and a crepe. The strawberry, banana and Nutella crepe was made with chocolate syrup instead of Nutella. There was no silverware in the store. Who eats a crepe with a spoon. If you are out of so many items, just be honest and communicate. We could have chosen a different item. My sister-in-law ordered a breakfast crepe, which tasted pretty good-with fresh bananas, light and thin dough, powdered sugar, and a chocolate drizzle on top. Unfortunately, the staff forgot to make my sandwich and remembered only after both the other food came out and I called it to their attention. There were only a couple of guests in the restaurant and the staff was focused on speaking to each other, such that there was no excuse to make the error. The sandwich itself was okay, not great. The muffin and turkey sausage was soggy and tasted as if it came out of the microwave minutes before.
