The All hallow's eve was a perfect mix of sweet and savory, starting off with a cinnamon roll biscuit that puts both biscuits and cinnamon rolls to shame, crunchy fried chicken, an egg and bacon. Forgot to mention that the pot pie came with a cup of soup. There were three choices and I got the Greek lemon soup. It needed an extra squeeze of lemon and a dash of salt, but it was decent. For dessert, we wanted to try their coconut cake, but they were out. (They close at 3). We settled for sharing a slice of some warm apple pie with whipped cream on the side. The pie was good. Started with the deviled eggs, and right away I knew something was different. Absolutely delicious. Then came the shepherd's pie and this is where Howley's completely threw me. These people decided to cover theirs with the creamiest, cheesiest mac & cheese, bake the top until it's golden and crispy, and somehow make the whole thing work PERFECTLY. She asked him if he had a pair of clothes toed shoes to which he replied "I have tuxedo shoes and my running shoes in my room". She actually asked him to go change into his running shoes. We asked her why the women were allowed to have open toed shoes she responded "those are fashion sandals" to which we quickly pointed out, so were his- designer fashion sandals, just for men! More frustrating, was that upon check-in we mentioned we were having brunch there on Sunday and no one said a word about needing closed toed shoes for men. Also, when the confirmation call came in from their own staff she specifically said "dress code is upscale resort CASUAL" Open tables dress code notes fails to mention said rule, and their own Breakers website doesnt mention shoes rules. They also do not have it posted anywhere that we found informing guests. We are completely fine abiding by a rule. But you must inform your guest of said rule. The whole thing was very uncomfortable and set a poor tone for what was intended to be a great brunch. Do better Breakers. And shame on them for not using better manager discretion in that situation. So pack accordingly!
