I just finished a long visit at Sweet Dream Donuts. I consider myself a donut connoisseur visiting donut shops around the US regularly. This place happened to be located right next to my hotel. Wow ! The donuts were fabulous, customer service superb and plenty of donuts and choices were available as many people streamed through this business. This place is amazing . I needed to catch up on emails and stayed for about an hour. I got a good feel for the ambiance and service. The lovely woman taking donut requests is named Danielle. Every person coming into the shop was greeted with "Hello Friend." Sweet Dream Donuts is a gem and I highly recommend it if you prefer awesome donuts and great service. Next time I'm in St. Joseph Missouri I will definately come back. read more

Solid, reliable donuts. I agree with others that they are not greasy, which is essential. I had an old fashioned which was fairly good, if not a little plain (I understand it's a rather plain donut to begin with, I've just had better when they have sour cream). The maple bacon was good. The highlight for me was the one that she said is "like fried pound cake". Yes, please--I'd have that one again! My husband had blueberry glazed. He thought they were rather plain. I'd go back as the donuts were very reasonably priced. I'd get the fried pound cake one again, and try others. read more

I didn't bother with getting a cake donut today, since I don't love them. I guess those are just not my thing. But the glazed donut I just nommed on was as good as the last one I had from Sweet Dreams. Chewy. Soft. Light. And perfectly sweet. I recently went to another donut shop while traveling and it was made clear that not every place can do a lovely glazed donut. We are lucky here in STJ to have such a great source of donuts. read more

The donuts were AMAZING. Such a wide variety and tasted so so sweet and delicious. The decor they have is cute, but it's a bit empty. I could imagine it being such a cute study spot. The employees seemed really friendly and engaged. Overall, a very cute place. read more

Woke up this morning and didn't feel like making breakfast. So donuts it is. I usually avoid donuts for obvious reasons, haha, but I can't resist the donuts from here. When they arrived by delivery, they were clearly fresh made. You could smell the freshness through the box. Everything I've had from here has always been aces, as they say. I've never had a bad donut from here. They're not greasy like another place I won't mention. They're light and fluffy and delicious. If you're gonna take the caloric hit, take It here. I've been here a few times and every time everything always tastes really fresh, the prices are very good, they have a wide variety of options each time. They have one of the best apple fritters I've had in a long time. Their glazed donuts are always super soft and not too sweet. The person working is always very kind. Not crowded on a Tuesday however consistent foot traffic. Service was fast- nice variety for 10:30 in the morning. Large area but limited seating (approximately 4 tables. $17.99 a dozen (not bad) . I tried the cherry fritter...it was good but I think I prefer apple. There didn't seem to be any fruit pieces in it like apple fritters have. 2 Stars for below average. We visited on a Saturday morning around 10am. They weren't very busy. Service was fast and friendly. We opted to dine in. Not very many tables or seating. Prior visit had more tables. The table was dirty, had to clean myself. The main reason for the 2 star review is for the donuts themselves. Very subpar. They were a little dry and just didn't have that much flavor. We were very disappointed as the previous visit, they were more of a 4-star. I really wish we would have opted for Dunkin Donuts down the road. Probably won't be back. read more

Nice little donut shop. No seating, but great for takeout. Very wide selection of donuts and one of my favorites, they fill the donuts on request. They also have a wider selection of fillings than other places. Finally, they fill the donuts well. Also have kolaches and other breakfast foods, but go for the donuts. read more

Sweet Dreams Donuts HAS to be a hidden gem in Missouri. My husband had an appointment in Kansas City and we stopped at a gas station off the interstate. It was super early in the morning and we had not eaten. Not one for gas station fare, I noticed a donut shop to the left, so I walked over. Boy I am happy I did‼ I had the most delicious vanilla cream filled donut‼ In fact, they filled a freshly baked donut on the spot. In the case, the donuts looked like they had just gotten out of the oven. Nice fluffy donuts with just the right amount of baked goodness. And so many different kinds. They had other breakfast items, but time didn't permit shopping around. It was a very large space, too. I remember thinking it would be lovely to sit and enjoy a coffee, but they didn't have many tables and chairs. If you are driving through St Jo this place is an early morning MUST. This was my first, and my last visit. The breakfast sandwiches are really good and made fresh. The donuts are mediocre, but not too far off from Duncan. However, the service was very POOR. My family walked in to see an empty store. One woman was finishing up at a table. The employees were not concerned that we were there... waited until she was done on her phone and did not greet us. Neither of the women working were friendly. They made our order, put it on the counter and went back to the prep area. Did not tell us it was ready...did not thank us...we ended up having to ask.
