Chilaquiles verde with chicken

Ambiance and waitress was good. I think we just got the wrong menu items. Wasn't impressed with the chilaquiles verde and the too large and doughy pastry.

We had not been here in awhile and it's one of my wife's favorite breakfast spots. I was never all that crazy about it because of their breakfast potatoes. If you have read my reviews I judge all breakfast restaurants by their hash browns. I don't know when it happened or what made them change but you now get to choose between the 2 breakfast potatoes or hash browns!!!!!!!! Happy Day, this changes everything for me and warrants a new review. Again it's a really nice place, the seating is really well spaced, I always feel that I have some privacy and personal space. Everyone is always friendly and the service is excellent. This time my wife got the Portabenny which is just what it sounds like 2 portabella mushroom caps as the base of a benedict. It came with some fresh asparagus and my wife really enjoyed it. She also really appreciates the fruit side that you can get, they actually cut fruit themselves and you can choose what you want. I got the southern skillet, poblano peppers, onion, andouille sausage, fried chicken, cheese and turkey sausage gravy. Very good, very large, I only ate half and had breakfast for the next day. I don't get pancakes very often, but I did today and they really have great pancakes. The food is very good, they have a great variety, I really appreciate that they try and bring some uniqueness to their menu, and now that they have hash browns, that may be our new go to spot.

I hate updating a review to make it worse, but my recent visit here wasn't as good as past visits. I ordered the avocado toast, which comes with poached eggs on top and they were cold. Our waitress also acted like she wanted us to leave quickly, bringing the bill before I'd even finished my meal. The place looked clean and the hosts were super friendly, but my food wasn't that enjoyable and I felt stressed thinking the waitress wanted us out, so this wasn't a great visit for me.

Menu has a wide range of offerings and the portions for everything are huge! Their beignets were a little tough and doughy so I wouldn't get that next time. Pancakes were very fluffy but also oddly crumbly. I got a pancake sampler that came with 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 pieces of maple bacon, hash browns, and sausage. It was way too much food for one person to finish. The porta benny was really good and if I come her again I'll get it!

Sweet Berry is such a comfortable "homey" breakfast restaurant. The staff is great! They are all so kind and give top notch service. They have amazing breakfast and lunch options. I always order the garden skillet. The hashbrowns, vegetables, and eggs are always cooked well. This is a breakfast restaurant I always come back to!

Long story short our waitress Melissa was so friendly, god bless her soul (She deserves a raise). Our breakfast was so good, specially the pancakes.

Cute Spot, Great for a Date This was my first time in Elgin, Illinois, and I was looking for a good spot to grab something to eat. With my love for brunch and breakfast, Sweetberry Café seemed like the perfect choice. First impressions: it's a super cute spot with a welcoming atmosphere. The staff was very attentive and friendly. I got seated at a booth and decided to try the special: pot roast and eggs, which came with a side of buttermilk pancakes that I topped with strawberries. To be honest, the food was just okay. The pot roast was a bit dry, even after adding some sauce, which didn't help much. The eggs and potatoes were fine, and the pancakes were good, though I'm not a huge pancake fan. I do love spots like The Original Pancake House, and compared to that, Sweetberry was just average. That said, I'd still recommend Sweetberry Café to Elgin locals--it's a cute date spot with decent food. Bonus points for offering flavored cream! Overall, I'd give it a 3 out of 5 for my first visit.

Banana Bread French Toast

We tried this place for brunch while in town at the recommendation of family who lives nearby. I was told they recently did a renovation and everything looks fresh and clean. Modern decor and neutral colors but the signage in the front windows is dated and the sign on the front of the building is a bit small and hard to see from the street. Our waitress, Jessica, was outstanding! She was very friendly and attentive to our large group. Despite having other customers she was constantly circling by our table to refill waters and to clear dirty plates. She provided excellent and detailed recommendations of what to try from the menu. The menu has options for everyone from breakfast to lunch and everything in between. Everything comes in large portions! I tried the banana bread French toast and it was great. Three huge slices of banana bread that were served piping hot. The banana bread had great flavor and almost didn't need syrup. I tried some of my sister's Southern skillet and it was also very good. It had lots of fresh ingredients and great flavor but I didn't like the large pieces of poblano pepper in it. Will absolutely be back next time we are in town.

The staff that was at the bar helped me navigate how to order via the QR code on the table and it was easy to place and pay for my order (and include tip) before getting our food. They got us water and made us feel very at ease. Grabbed our own plate and to-go box which was actually kinda nice to be able to come and go at our own pace, even though I felt a little awkward (could just be a me thing lol). They have an arcade in the back section which looks really fun! There's also a stage area where it looks like they can set up for live music, etc. Good set up with TVs in the bar area and looks like they have some interesting brews on tap. The "soft open menu" has a lot of options with dogs and burgers and loaded fries. I chose the Road Rash dog which is basically a chili cheese dog but with tons of sour cream and bacon on top. I got it without any onions but it does come with onion scallions and tomatoes in addition to the cheese and chili. The chili had great flavor! The hot dog had the perfect snap to it and the bun was SO SOFT yet had a little crisp on the outside. It is MASSIVE! I could only finish half of it - so if you visit, come hungry! The French fries I gave to my kiddo since he's not much into hot dogs but I did try a couple for good measure they were big and very flavorful. They were cooked just right - not soggy or overcooked. I only gave the 4 because I was just a little confused on seating ourselves and ordering at first... If I could do half stars I would go up to 4.5. Going strictly on flavor, it's a 5! The food definitely speaks for itself - worth the $12 for a gourmet hotdog in my opinion. I would for sure come back with the rest of the family or even just to try some of their drinks. This place IS LEGIT.

The South Elgin location is located off Randall Rd. We went on a Friday night to take advantage of their Happy Hour drink specials. Beers 3.25 and Martinis 5.25. They also have a wine special. Our server (Sage) was super friendly and did not rush us even tho they were pretty busy. (And loud) We had their cheese fries as an appetizer and they were fresh and not greasy at all. My wife had the 10 inch GF Supreme pizza and I had the 12 inch Sausage Pizza. Both were loaded with cheese and had good flavor. There was more than enough for leftovers. Prices are very reasonable. With another location in St. Charles,Riverside Pizza and Pub is definitely worth a place to checkout when in the Western suburbs.

The Grumpy Goat feels like a rustic supper club but with an energetic vibe and signature menu items highlighted with a goat. The Bulleit Bourboun burger and fries were outstanding, and I look forward to returning and trying a steak. We held a meeting for nearly 70 people in their back room and had helpful amenities needed and tasty food. People especially liked the skillet dip and sausage and peppers. Plenty of on-site parking too and an innovative cocktail menu in addition to standard beer, seltzers and wines. And I could tell from the conversations between servers and customers in the bar area, that there are many regulars who keep coming back here. I can definitely see why. See, Grumpy Goat consists of two indoor dining areas and an outdoor seating area within a slightly larger building also that has a locker room, golf shop, and meeting room. The food ranges from pub food, to sandwiches, to flatbreads, to great steaks. Both times, the bar area was louder and people tend to focus on drinks and appetizers there. There's a separate dining room beyond the bar area where full dinners seem more common. Given that my 2 trips were in November and December, don't have a good sense for the outside area. I could just see that there are several tables overlooking the golf course. On certain nights, they have live music. Great variety of drinks, appetizers, sandwiches/burgers, and entrees. Can go inexpensive, or can get a filet mignon and spent a lot. Filling choices. Prices are quite reasonable.
