Read the reviews for this place before we went and were quite excited to get this new coffee shop. Went in and ordered 2 coffees and 2 sandwiches. The coffee came out fast and it was very good. The ambiance of this place is excellent. Perfect for a quiet study session, reading, or date. The food on the other hand.... wasn't very good. The wait took almost 30 minutes. And felt premade and microwaved. Which in the restaurant business and coffee shops is sure is common. But when you charge the prices they do and take as long as they did to make. I cannot rate it any higher. Would not come back for food. read more

Dropped in on a whim one afternoon and was pleasantly surprised! It's not really visible as you drive by so I rarely think about it being so close to my home...it's less than mile and a half away so now that I know it's good, I'll need to head back to try some other things. On this trip, which was late afternoon on a week day, I was craving a chai latte and stopped in to check it out. There was only one very pleasant young lady working and a pretty steady flow of customers so it did take a little longer than I'd hoped to be served but I enjoyed taking a look around the place while I waited. They have books, they have games, they have scheduled events (paint night for example) and they have a good variety of bakery items and hot sandwiches among other things. What a fun atmosphere! Oh and did I mention they also serve beer and wine! They have enough of a variety so there's sure to be something for everyone. You should definitly go and give it a try too. read more

Really liked working from this cafe. It was low volume/silent most of the time. Not busy at all but still had a good flow of customers coming. The music played overhead was a good volume but at one point the music stopped altogether for whatever reason. Haha. Drinks are decently priced. I got a small chai tea latte and it was surprisingly yummy. I substituted the milk for almond milk. It was nice and foamy at the top and the flavor of chai was not too strong. I had also purchased a coffee cake. I wasn't able to find silverware anywhere and had to request for one. To my surprise, when t trying to eat it, it wasn't soft but kind of stiff and hard to put my fork through to get a bite. Kind of disappointing but the flavor was still there. I didn't bother to ask if they could warm it up so that's probably something I'll do next time. Will definitely be coming back in the future! I got a lot of work done here. read more

I found this place random when I was home sick. Their coffee is amazing! I even got my husband to try it. Now it is our weekend treat on Saturdays. I've only tried two of their food items: bagel sandwich and burrito. The burrito was just ok, but I loved the bagel egg sandwich. I'm vegetarian, so that limits what I can eat. The "Baristas" are rude and not attentive at all . They operate under the it'll be done when its done , it took 15 min for me to get a coffee when they were not busy at all , no doordash orders coming in , 2 people in the whole place . When I mentioned how long it took to get coffee I was told "maybe you should've just made it yourself " . This place use to be a good coffee shop i frequently went to , however the attitude of the workers made me go other places . When you enter Sweet Beans, you'd quickly realize it's nothing you'd expect - very positively surprising. From the outside I couldn't be sure if it's open or not, the open sign is hard to see without the typical lights and everything is very subdued from the outside, no signage, no colorful paint... very understated. But inside.... It's spacious, it has lots of tables, a merchandise corner and the mural on the wall so unique. Service was friendly, I came in when they were about to close at 5:30pm but the barista was accommodating when I asked if she could prepare me something simple. She said she could do a chai latte - and boy, it's one of the tastier chai lattes I've had in a while! I also grabbed a chocolate chip cookie to go. my partner and i stumbled upon this hidden gem of a coffee shop on an extremely hot day and was so surprised to see beautiful art of the wall (which i loved!) i ordered a vanilla ice latte, which is totally out of my norm but it was the perfect balance of smooth espresso and velvety vanilla sweetness. my partner opted for the milky way ice latte, which they enjoyed but would definitely try another flavor next time. the staff was friendly and attentive, making sure we had a great experience. the menu had an impressive variety of coffee drinks, and we can't wait to explore more of their offerings in the future. read more

Looking for a good cup of coffee? Head elsewhere. This place has work to do. Our hot coffee was tepid at best as it sat waiting to be delivered while the barista worked through all the tickets he had in front of him instead of having the cashier distribute drinks. Our order was half delivered than interrupted while the staff chatted up a new customer with an interesting mug. I got my lukewarm cup and then we waited another 15 minutes for the second drink in our order. It too arrived lukewarm as it sat despite our query while the barista made cold drinks and the cashier headed to the back. Neither drink was worthy of the wait. read more

Since both my girlfriend and I were off from work today for Veterans Day, we decided to go out for breakfast. When our first choice was a no-go due to 40-plus wait for a table, we headed here. I first got word about Sweet Beans from a friend of ours through Facebook. Being a coffee lover, this was in my wheelhouse. Upon entering, there was plenty of seats available. No wait time here. There are a lot of choices to make if you're into coffee. Unfortunately, I couldn't choose anything including butterscotch since they were out of the ingredient. No worries. I ended up picking the Reese's flavor in a large size. Just as you imagine with the candy, it was coffee flavored with chocolate and peanut butter. (She picked the cold brew flavor.) We both chose to eat chicken, bacon and tomato panini with avocado lime sauce along with a bag of chips. I was very impressed with my coffee choice. It was hot and full of flavor. You can truly taste the chocolate and peanut butter. Very satisfying. With the panini, I liked it. The avocado spread was very creamy adding taste to the proteins and tomato. I would've preferred a full chicken breast but this would do. A very nice time out on Veterans Day at a veteran owned spot offering some good coffee in a tucked away area of Hampton. And they even offer some beer and spirits as well. I know I always say this at the end of my reviews but we'll be back. read more

This is my second visit here. It's a nice break from from normal coffee routine. The staff is very friendly and they have a very large selection of specialty drinks (coffee, smoothies, teas, etc,.). I do recommend using the pink business card to see the full menu while waiting in line. The specialty coffees are so good but you can't see the list until you get up to the counter. They can be iced or hot. They are flavorful and original. I did not get any donuts but they gave a nice array in a clear case on the counter. They are first come, first serve, so get there early to have more of a selection. One day I want to sit down inside and drink my coffee. It's very spacious and tables are well-distanced inside. 5 Stars! Spacious, quaint shop with ample seating and a private parking lot (no drive-thru). I received a gift card to visit Sweet Beans for my birthday last year. It took me almost a year to finally get there, and I shouldn't have waited so long! I love it!. Inside, it's a cute little cafe with a lot of options. The prices are reasonable, a lot less than Starbucks! I was in a bit of a hurry so I didn't get many pictures, but I will make sure I do when I return. I asked the girl at the front desk about their options, and she was super knowledgeable. They have a lot of flavors to choose from! I don't really drink the sweet, elaborate coffees, but they looked really good. I opted for a cold brew coffee with two pumps of vanilla and 2% milk. I love that they use coffee cubes instead of regular ice, too! No watering down the coffee here! I also saw they had Texas style kolaches. When I lived in Texas, I used to love going to the kolache bakery. There's nothing quite like a freshly baked kolache. The kolaches here are really good and tasty. I only got the regular sausage one since The jalapeño ones are frozen and typically take 15 minutes. I plan to try those next time because they're my favorite. Took my daughter in because I saw the pictures and reviews of donuts to be told they stopped doing that, which was fine but I drove 25 mins for that. I got my daughter a muffin and I got a Choc/ caramel iced coffee that tasted like watered down chocolate milk ( I was pretty let down) the overall ambiance of the place was chill and the service was good. I was so pleasantly surprised to have found a locally owned coffee shop! Not to mention having a comfortable space so I can study & sip some delicious coffee just completed the whole aesthetic. I got the fall colors without the cinnamon (add white chocolate) & it was delicious ! Their in house tea (I did mine over ice) wasn't bad- it kind of had a mint flavor to my blueberry which was interesting but I do want to try other flavors. The staff were so friendly & patient with me, they answered all of my questions & really made me feel valued by not rushing me to order. The pricing was what you can expect (not higher than other shops in the area). I LOVED the couch section but discovered it doesn't have outlets which was a bummer but the chairs across the cafe were comfy too! I also really enjoyed the handmade crafts that were displayed (hand poured soy candles, custom cups & shirts). I think it's neat that they also offer beer! Hoping to come back to try out more items ! We popped over here after a quick bite for lunch, but before shopping. We loved the whole ambiance, the customer service, and the prices! I got a regular coffee with cream & honey, and it was really good! I know it's hard to mess up coffee, but it tasted so good! My significant other got a vanilla latte with an extra shot, and he also said it was really extraordinarily good. We wish we lived closer to come here more, but we'll just be visiting it from time to time on our shopping trips. (Side-note: their artwork is so cool inside AND they had delicious pastry options- I would like to dabble in those some day.) read more

This was a cute little vibe. I have been before but it was years ago so I didn't write a review. The cashier was super sweet and complimented even though I thought I was a hot mess this morning lol. It really made my day and he was patient enough to explain the menu items and provide reconnections. I ordered the hefty burrito with sausage, bacon, egg, cheese and veggies. It was super filling like it held me over for lunch and breakfast. I also ordered a hot butter beer latte with oatmilk. It was delicious. I wasn't a fan of the hot salsa so next time I'll try the mild. This place isn't located in Poquoson but it's right outside of it. This place is very spacious!! It's very family friendly. They provide a chalk wall, and a game area. Sweet beans tends to have events like paint nights that I would love to go to. They have a very extensive menu. A lot of options... Which I love. It gives everyone a choice to get something great. It was cool to see that they do offer wine and self serve beer! That's fancy for a coffee place! ALSO they serve DEATH WISH! Which is a strong caffeinated coffee! I am about that brand! Because I have a baby, 5 year old, and an additional baby I care for. I run on nothing.. So I will be ordering that In the future! My husband fancied their cold Brew coffee, with their COFFEE ICE CUBES. I love people who are EXTRA! I got the Almond Joy latte! It was a little too sweet for me, but they had no issue making me a new one to my liking. My kids raved about their donuts. The donuts that they serve are cake donuts. They were delicious! I tried the red velvet, chocolate glazed, and the blueberry. All of them are very good. My husband got the burrito with everything in it! Veggies, eggs, sausage, bacon... Let's just say I took one bite, and I regretted not getting myself one. They serve it with sour cream and salsa. I got the everything bagel. It went well with my Java. Sweet Beans is literally my favorite coffee place! I drive from Newport News frequently to get my coffee fix! Every single member of the staff is super friendly! Not only is the coffee amazing but so are any of the food items I have tried! It has such a chill atmosphere and vibe which is totally my style. And if you like beer, there's a beer wall too! I haven't been in yet for the beer but I plan to come in for their trivia night or a paint night and definitely hit up that awesome wall! My absolute favorite drink I get here is the iced Maria! What a neat place. Coffee, tea, beer and other drinks. Customer service has always been great. They are definitely affected by covid and lack of employees but, they are not making that hurt them. The male was extremely helpful when teaching my friend how to operate the beer tap. Coffee and teas have always been delicious and hand crafted. They have some treats and a small amount of food options. I can not speak on behalf of any of that because I have not tried the. But, they do look delicious! Alrighty Yelpers -- here's another gem of a coffee spot in Hampton Roads. I'm always looking for places on this side of the water too, so I was thrilled to see this pop up on my Yelp app. I finally got a chance to visit yesterday, and I was impressed! The shop itself has a nice open feel to it, was very clean, and the staff was super friendly. A lot of coffee places focus on that - coffee - and as a tea drinker, I was pleasantly surprised that they have an excellent tea game here. I ordered a watermelon tea -- in all my years as a tea drinker, I have NEVER seen watermelon tea as an option anywhere. It was one of the most delicious things I've ever had. The barista told me they get their tea from a place in Norfolk that trades in quality leaves, and it showed. In terms of a mobile work environment, this place is great. They've got some comfy seating if you like that, decent sized tables and chairs if you need to spread out, or bar style seating if that's more your vibe. The space has a lot of windows, so it gets quite a bit of natural light. And there is free wifi! And the music they played the entire time wasn't onerous which is often a key component of a good coffee shop vibe. In addition to all that, they have a self serve wine and beer station! So if you work all day like I do and find yourself still stuck on a boring project come 4-5 p.m. and you just can't justify quitting, you can at least grab a happy hour drink to finish up for the day. I'm a big fan of this spot and I hope other Yelpers check it out soon. They have only been open a couple months they said, so spread the word -- especially my fellow folks on the peninsula! read more

Such a dainty and cute coffee shop. I seriously enjoyed stopping by! I got the large Cinnamon Toast Crunch frappe with raspberry and the bacon, egg and cheese burrito. Man, that's what breakfast should be. All day. Everyday! My frappe was insanely good and not as sickeningly sweet as it may sound. It had a super nutty, flavorful taste with the woodsy aromas of coffee and cinnamony goodness! It was really an awesome little delight. My burrito was full of crunchy, finely chopped bacon, thick melty cheese and cooked-to-perfection egg! The pillowy soft tortilla that held it all together was seriously the bomb! Guys, it was so good! Love the location - it's pretty far out there for even the average Hamptonian (it's borderline Poquoson - right over by NASA and the speedway) but if you can get a day to come out that way, do it! I actually found out that i've Ice cubes aren't actually water, they are Coffee cubes so your iced coffee won't be watered down!! So smart. The food was good as well as the iced coffee!! This was my first time going to sweet bean and I would highly recommend this place for coffee. I had ordered an iced coffee with Reese flavor added. The coffee taste amazing and well balanced. The cashier I believe her name was Amber was amazing. She walked me through the menu and different flavors they could add to the coffee drinks. I also purchased a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie and that was to die for. The cookie was soft. I will definitely go back to that place because of the coffee and they also support other businesses and artists which they have some of there artwork displayed. read more

This is our second time coming here and they are out of alot of their prepared foods such as texas style kolaches and the soup of the day. So you must get there early to have a chance in getting them. What we were able to try was their mocha latte, chai latte, pepperoni panini. We enjoyed our lattes, especially the chai latte. The pepperoni panini came with chips which was an unexpected surprise. The panini was good we would order again but we could make this at home. The man who took my food order explained the simple process to me. They had awesome options which I found to be unique and tempting. I only ended up spending less than $6 for the beer. For food, I got the pepperoni pizza panini. A bit greasy (expected with pepperoni) but good. It came with a bag of plain chips which I wish I could have had the chance to choose. To imply that I "found" it is almost unfair because it was kind of dropped into my lap watching the news one evening and I promised myself I'd go the next day. Coffee ice cubes, in my coffee!? GENIUS! I ordered a vanilla caramel iced latte and was blown away, it was smooth, with the right milk ratio, without watering it down - thanks to the coffee ice. Starbucks, go get a job, this is where coffee deserves to live. I'm so glad Sweet Beans chose to set up here so close to base, we needed something with a little more charm than another major coffee Corp. Also - let's talk about beer. They have a pour it yourself station with lots of local favorites, I didn't get to try but will do so in my next visit! One last thing. Let's talk about kolaches. I am not a fan of coffee or espresso; as a matter of fact, I hate them both besides the smell. I am a caffeine fan though. And I am generally a fan of any place that serves breakfast items all day... I am still new to the area and someone recommended Sweet Beans (SB). I was totally shocked by the inside--I thought it would be similar to the Chinese spot next door. I was pleasantly surprised that SB was so spacious and spread out. The staff were very helpful, nice, and patient--I don't always know what I want, and they were able to understand my preferences as well as what I was looking for. I decided on the Breakfast Burrito with veggies, sausage, and bacon with mild sauce and a Fruit Bomb with strawberry and blueberry. The Fruit Bomb... mmmmmmm! It was creamy and great-tasting. (I wonder what it would taste like with a milk alternative like a coconut milk) It gave me that energy pop I was looking for. I will definitely be getting another one. The Breakfast Burrito was... one of the best I've ever had. And they get extra points for the fresh salsa. It wasn't spicy enough but that was my fault--I chickened out of getting the hot sauce.
