Oh man I love this place. I have to say I love burgers. And without a doubt the best burger I have ever eaten hands down was prepared here. It was the mushroom one I believe. I love the IHOP burgers; believe it or not they are actually quite good. This one blew them all right off the board. Sweeney's is by far the BEST Irish pub in the Hudson Valley/Orange County. The food is consistently delicious, the service is warm and welcoming. My personal go-to, when I can't make up my mind, is the Fish 'n Chips: always tastes like it was freshly caught. My spouse is partial to the Rueben sandwich (HUGE so make sure you're hungry!) and the Sheperd's Pie. The daily specials don't disappoint. The salads are large enough to share - always crisp and fresh. Burgers are the best in the area. The wait staff is unfailingly polite, attentive but don't hover, always have a smile and a good word. The bartender's build a beautiful Guiness and the selection for cocktails is extensive. $5 Harp and Guiness on Wednesdays!! When we have friends/family in from out of town, or visiting from other countries, we bring them to Sweeney's - they love it as much as we do. Easy access from I-84. Went here on a whim with my parents and boyfriend for dinner and wanted to try something new. Street parking only , there is signage inside and out not to park in the diner lot next store . Typical bar pub look on the inside and beautiful landscaping on the outside (the best looking grass I have ever seen) some outdoor seating . We sat inside . Staff is very friendly , food came out quickly . We got their famous wings and they were crisp and big , very tasty . I got a chicken ceaser salad , which was a tad salty but that could have just been too much dressing but still good. My dad got the bangers and mashed which he enjoyed , though not a pretty dish. My boyfriend enjoyed his fish and chips , even though he isn't a fan of fish . My mother loved her burger that I can't recall the name of and got a pile of onion rings instead of fries . Sweeney's is a delightful pub. Delicious meals and the tap beer is fresh cold and smooth. I have had their Reuben, bacon cheeseburger, fish and chips, and onion rings all were great perfect bar food to go with a beer. The service is cool and a very friendly atmosphere. Occasionally crowded on the weekends in the evening but they staff is very accommodating to everyone. I would recommend a meal and a beer to all members and visitors of Orange County NY! read more

Not for the 40 something crowd. First time I was there place was packed however we still got served. The pints of Guinness were good, the hamburger was ok. Overall an average visit and I wanted to try them again, very close to the homestead. Very loud and very drunk people however. The second time we left after waiting 15 minutes to be served. No one even bothered to take our order. This bar is not for 40 somethings.. maybe 20 somethings and career drinkers that like sports. I have decided never to go back. read more

Just what we needed. Visited Angry Orchards brewery and asked for a good place to eat and staff recommended this place. 3 of us tourists are from California and looking for a local deli/diner to eat and have a good experience. Not to busy since it was around 2:30 on a thursday. Waitress/staff was very friendly and inviting. we asked what they woudl recommend and got a few tap beers, then the Thai wings, a shepherd pie, nacho's and fish and chips. No!!! Went to see the Steelers Wild Card game. Needed to get out of the house. A Saturday night out to get dinner and drinks. The Directv was out. The owner sat next to us. We were the 4th couple to leave because the game was out. The manager left just before us and paid no mind to the game being out. We made the bartender call him and ask what he could do. He said nothing, just hope it comes back on. Just a simple clean off of the dish and we are in business. It's too bad. 8 people left. 8!!! That's at least $400 lost. Now I know why I don't go here. What a great Irish Pub Located in the heart of Walden. The Shepard's pie is delicious and the wings are great with a variety of sauces to choose from. Not too many pubs in Walden NY, let alone Irish, but this great place adds charm to the area with Friendly staff and the Irish Style Cuisine. . They also have limited outdoor seating... The bar has a variety of liquors, limited on wine selections but then again it is a pub so a mixed drink or draft beer is the way to go. Enjoy definitely a place to stop in and say hi.... My husband and I just moved into Walden from Michigan and have been having fun trying all the different diners, restraunts and pizza joints in the area. A friend of ours came into town and we decided to take him to one of the restraunts we hadn't gone to yet. Sweeney's Irish Pub. It was an early Friday evening and it was pretty quiet and we were greeted right away and told to sit where we would like. We picked a seat near a window, but the tidy porch out front would've been good as well as it was a nice evening. The server was Irish, so I don't know if this was the owner or what, but he gave great beer suggestions and we were very happy with our Belgian white and German beers. We ordered the pretzel appetizers, which were good, but were interesting. Crushed pretzel on the outside and mozerella cheese on the inside served with a good stout mustard. We all decided to order an Irish staple: shepherds pie. It was very good, especially with the "HD" sauce the server suggested. It did take a minute to get our "pies", but our beers were filled readily and our server checked up on us and ensured we weren't forgotten about..which it hadn't even been that long! Came to Sweeny's after reading the review about the good burgers. My friend and I split the Potato Skins, which were eh - could have used more time in the oven and more cheesy goodness, but good enough. Friend's Chef Salad looked pretty good. I got a Bacon Burger with Swiss - came as a Bacon burger with American, but was still pretty good. They had Magner's Cider, so that got a win in my book. I will say - if you're in to sports, there are multiple TVs so multiple games are always on. read more

Nice atmosphere, good place to go on a week night for a drink. Drinks are pretty expensive so not a place to spend the whole night, if it's on a weekend. Just a pit stop for a drink or two. The food is so so. It doesn't blow my mind, but if I'm hungry enough I'll eat all of it. All the staff is incredibly friendly and they do make it worth it to go there. read more

I pass this place twice a day for the past 5 years and this was my first time visiting. Friday lunch time was slow, there were 4 other tables being used. Service was very prompt and welcoming . They had several beers on tap from your classic Guinness to some quality IPAs. The soup of the day was the sweet potato which was creamy and had a nice lightly cinnamon flavor not overwhelming. It was perfect for a fall day that is crisp. I knew what I wanted was the fish and chips platter, because if you're going to Irish pub it seems like they should be able to nail it, and I wasn't wrong. The menu is a good balance of pub food and entrees. The fish was nicely batter-dipped with a crisp and the fish was moist and flaky on the inside. It came with a very generous portion of French fries, and of course they give the malt vinegar ( the correct choice btw) along with ketchup. I would love if they would provide mushy-peas as a side I absolutely love that. I will have to not wait so long to come back. read more

Show up more than twice ans Sean will remember your name and treat you like a regular after three times he will remember your favorite drink. Burgers are good. Buffalo wings are hot and delicious, but the best food are the Irish favorites. Shepard's pie with HP sauce, Fish and Chips and from October to April the Guinness Beef Stew are all simply excellent. Ironically I'd only avoid Sweeney's on St. Patrick's Day. The place is a magnet and become packed with pretenders putting their Irish on one day of the year. The crowd is shoulder to shoulder and its charm is buried under all those people just out for a Guinness. Guinness and Smithwick's on tap, so they also make a great Black Smith. I met my husband for the first time in this pub probably about 18 years ago. I am moving to Florida tomorrow and my two very very good best friends brought me out for one last hooray. Had a glass of ice cold Magners and that was it. The bar is kinda quiet on a Monday night, I didn't eat anything. They didn't have any music on so it wasn't much of a party atmosphere. Staff is very friendly, food is terrific, drinks are a little pricey but hey, its a bar. Love the number of tv's for sports but they don't detract from the atmosphere which is always lively but not obnoxious. Their burgers are out of this world, but be advised that ordering it medium, medium rare, etc are really just suggestions - you end up getting it however you get it - most of the time medium.
