That said, watching boats bob up and down on waves while supping a pint of Guinness is not to be sniffed at, and makes for a fine way to enjoy the sun. Just a little away from the majority of the shops, and nestled alongside the swanky looking flats that border the water, it makes for a fantastic little nook to tuck a pub into, and there is ample outdoor seating to enjoy when the weather is warm. I haven't got around to trying anything on the menu yet (as I tend not to stray over to the mariner all that often). But the pub looked clean and well maintained with friendly staff ferrying away empty plates from satisfied faces, so I can only assume the traditional menu is a well received menu. Not worth going to the Mariner for per se, but certainly one of the best ways to spend your time there.

My family have been before and have sworn the other food is brilliant so I'm up for giving Busby and Wilds another shot. The atmosphere was nice and cute (and quiet if you come early on a weekday). The service was also good - nothing special but nothing to complain about either. The table we sat at was a little bit sticky which was disappointing as we were the first to arrive. The portion sizes were spot on and although I did not opt for a traditional Easter roast, I can vouch that they were generous and looked amazing. Traditional homemade roasts are available each Sunday and usually include roast top side of Dexter British beef, slow roasted shoulder of Sussex lamb, roast Kentish hop pork belly and walnut, hazlenut and a chestnut vegetarian roast. As I do not visit the seaside all that often, I made a point of trying as much sea food as possible. I began with a crab terrine, which is locally sourced from sustainable supplies. It was incredible and came with crusty freshly baked sourdough bread and a small cup of crab soup which was incredibly strong and delicious. I followed this up with a large bowl of muscles and some thickly cut farmhouse bread. You can't really go wrong here, but the addition of smoked streaky bacon was a nice touch. To finish I took one look at the dessert menu and was overcome with and irresistible urge to devour the brownie accompanied with honeycomb ice cream. Unashamedly, I left nothing on the plate. Do not hesitate to try this restaurant!!! It's ace.

They will regularly send around complimentary snacks and nibble to tables, which more than make up for the drink prices. An especially good summertime venue, where the outdoor patio catches all of the afternoon and early evening sun. I have never eaten at the Square, but seen enough food to class it as reasonable. They do offer specials in the £8-£15 region, but I would suggest trying the food over a lunch break where you aren't competing with evening drinkers. If you looking for an atmosphere a little more highbrow than a pub, then this may be the place for you.

It is part of the same group that run The Connaght and The Dyke so the formula is recognisable. The place has been recently refurbished, and is light an airy while retaining is pubby feel with real open fires. There is plenty of space so it's great for big groups, and in addition to the main restaurant area there is also a function room, garden and patio. They have live music and DJ nights, keep an eye on the website to see what's coming up. The pizza's here are pretty delicious and are made from scratch on the premises. If you don't manage to finish them off (as if!) you will be provided with a take-out box and can finish it for breakfast the following day - highly recommended! So far I have tried the Affettati Misti and the Caprissa - both were very tasty, and there is plenty more on the menu to work my way through!
