I had recently moved and was looking for a new lash artist I could see consistently and build a long-term professional relationship with. Before booking, I reviewed Kelly's website, Yelp page, and booking requirements. I understood that she had a strict cancellation policy requiring the full appointment price, and I provided my credit card information to secure the appointment. I booked a new-client lash fill, brow wax, and brow tint. On the day of the appointment, my car repair was taking longer than expected, so I texted Kelly to give her a heads-up. She initially said she could be flexible by up to an hour, which I appreciated, while also reminding me of her cancellation policy. As we continued texting, Kelly informed me that she would need to remove all of my existing lashes, even though they were only about a week old. This was not clearly listed as a requirement on her website or booking platform. There was an optional add-on to remove lashes from another artist, but nothing stating that a full removal was mandatory. Although I was frustrated, I was willing to accept that. What ultimately changed the situation was learning that July 31 was Kelly's final day working in Seattle because she was moving to California. This was not disclosed on her website or booking platform. She told me she had announced it on Instagram, but I do not believe a new customer should be expected to search through every social-media account for such important information before booking. People who receive lash extensions are generally looking for an ongoing artist, not someone who will remove their current lashes, perform one service, charge a new-client rate, and then immediately leave the state. Had I known she was relocating, I never would have booked the appointment. I asked Kelly whether she would consider splitting the cancellation charge because this significant information had not been disclosed. She could have charged me for the lash service but waive the brow wax and tint--anything that demonstrated some accountability or willingness to meet me halfway as I understand the value of her time. She refused. I never disputed that I had agreed to her cancellation policy. My concern was that a material fact about her business--her final day in Seattle--was not disclosed during the booking process. Kelly could also clearly see that a brand-new client had booked an appointment on her final day and could have contacted me so I could make an informed decision. Unfortunately, I felt that there was no effort to acknowledge the situation, provide reasonable customer service, or take any responsibility for the lack of transparency. My experience was disappointing, and I feel like taking my money was more important to her than ensuring a prospective customer was taken care of.
