The dim sum cart came around quick, and we loaded up on hakaw, siu mai, char siu bao, and those amazing crispy taro puffs--everything was hot, fresh, and tasted just like the old-school spots back home. The spare ribs were tender and saucy, not overly sweet, and the yang chow fried rice had that perfect wok hei. Service was friendly even though it was packed; our server made sure we had hot tea refills without us asking. Super affordable too--we fed six of us and still had leftovers for under 2k. Total comfort food win. Definitely heading back next time we're in the area. Five stars all the way!

I can summarily declare that all the items we ordered were below our culinary standards in the following order from worst to not so bad. HK style fried noodles, the sauce was peanuty tasting poured over noodles. Horrible looking. The congee is not very appealing to the eyes and the palate. The duck was bony. The congee itself was barely hot. Siomai was no good either. The roasted duck with rice again lacking presentation appeal. The tofu skin roll is ok thus the 2 star. The waiter was very green. Served our sodas without glasses. Avoid and don't believe the hype.

I believe Binondo is best explored on foot so you can really take in all the sights, sounds and smells (both good, AND bad!). My boyfriend and I, after an hour or so of wandering around in search for fruits, finally ended up here. Since it's more line an alley than a street, it's easy to miss. Carvajal is lined up with eateries (a household name is Quick Snack) that have a LOT to offer, from classic Chinese cuisine, to traditional Filipino fares and other Asian cuisines. This street is also known for fresh produce! A huge variety of Asian fruits and vegetables are sold here in kiosks. Fresh tofu, tubs of fermented vegetables, some seafood and specialty food grocers can also be found here. Truly a foodie haven not only for those who love to eat, but for those who love to cook as well. Personally, I have not fully explored this small street thoroughly, but it's really worth mentioning. Take your time and see what each stall has to offer, and you'll never know what pleasant surprise awaits you.

But this narrow street is where you can find some of the best restaurants in Chinatown. My personal favorite is Quick Snack, with their amazing fresh lumpia. A lot of people also come here for the fresh fruit stands, and the mom-and-pop groceries where you can get even the most obscure Chinese delicacies. Prepare to have your tastebuds invaded.

It doesn't need yelp for people to find it. It's common knowledge in this town where to go for the best lugaw/jook. My grandparents and parents have been coming here for years. Their bola bola lugaw makes headlines on my friend's Facebook/IG/snapchat posts. Their noodles (all made in house!) are what people seek when they come to Binondo. Their siomai and siopao are so lipsmacking delicious and will fill your belly with so much goodness that it doesn't compare to anything I've had Stateside. I will anticipate and salivate over Ling Nam's comfort foods from now on until I've had it again. Ma, kelan tayo uwi sa Manila? P.S. shoutout to Manong Manny who's worked here for 36 years =)

Maybe because it's a restaurant that has been guarded so-well by my dad and grandmother who absolutely love Ling Nam. Or maybe because I remember coming here when I was young and see my slurp the last bit of soup in delight. Ling Nam brings back so many delightful memories that I would love to relive over and over again. When it comes to Beef Noodle Soup, I really think Ling Nam does it the best. You see, there are many kinds of Chinese Beef Noodle Soup that all play with different versions of the broth. This one in particular is much likened to the Fookien style of cooking. Not too strong nor too light soup. Hard noodles, soft meat and a whole lot of beef broth. It's a hearty and full meal on its own. But when you're here, make sure to order a side of Siomai topped with kalamansi. This dish goes well with your noodle soup as you drink every last bit of it.

What's cool is that one serving is good for two at 160 pesos! Well, practically, everything they serve is good for 2 people, or for one very hungry person. At that day, we decided to order the second best-selling dish: the Char Kway Teow. It's much like Lamien Guisado, equally flavourful and good for the tummy. Then Ric thought of ordering some seaweed soup. At 100 pesos, it was yummy. Think of Miso Soup with seaweed and scrambled egg, that's what it is. The flavour of the soup is comforting and tasty. To top our lunch meal, we took on some squash hopia (photo below) which didn't seem and taste like hopia for 50 pesos per plate. It was a surprise, as far as I am concerned. It particularly had a hint of squash, and its texture is similar to fried tikoy. I liked it!

Pack your patience because it'll be worth it when you tried their famous Fried Chicken. Hubby said that it was juicy, crispy and delicious. One of the best Fried chicken he tried by far. For Vegetarians: They have vegetarian menu available. I ordered vegetarian bihon. It comes with chinese cabbage, carrots and mushroom. The flavor was good but they could've added more vegetables to it because the amount of veggies were so small that it looked like a topping only. The Calamansi juice was very refreshing. Add this to your list when visiting Manila Chinatown. PS: Spotted one famous Filipino Actor with his family when we went here.
