Fifty Million Years Without Slouching: Yoga and Trekking in Nepal   In April 2025, I went on a trek to Nepal with Suzanne. Over 8 days we climbed to Anapurna Base Camp and practiced yoga at 13,500 feet, practically the foothills of peaks rising another 13,000 feet above us. That ultimate Tadasana has been there since India hit Asia. There's more vertical than you can wrap your head around. Amid the flitting prayer flags, I recalled a Nepali saying: A mountain is meditation standing. Whoa.   In October 2026, there is another trip planned, this time to the Gokyo lakes region with sweeping views of Sagarmatha (Everest).   The last trip was perfectly planned with a Nepali family-owned company Nature Explore. They became our fast friends and supported us completely. I expect the encore to be excellent. Then there's Suzanne, leading her third trip. She is a highly perceptive, highly trained, adept, fun yogini who has quite a curriculum in store. She will happily train you in restorative yoga or teach you to kick into handstands, whichever you prefer.   The Nepali people are wonderful. Although it's a secular state, there are 10 major religions. One hundred and twenty-three languages are spoken. There's a lot of harmony there that you don't expect to find in the U.S, They are kind, generous hosts. One of the trekkers put it well: "Here the Nepali heart, broad as the valleys, unfolds in gestures simple yet profound, a cup of chai extended in the dawn, eyes that gleam with unassuming grace"   I was happy that the other trekkers (aged 15-70) were so companionable and complementary. Living in Berkeley for 40 years, I was worried I might end up with a group that was highly astrally aligned, but everyone was very easy-going and genuine (and we keep in touch).   I don't know if you will be transformed by a trek in Nepal (and seriously, who needs that kind of pressure) but I certainly saw beautiful things that I will never forget, felt strong, and regained some faith in humanity. I'm looking forward to this next trip. read more

Suzanne Zuber Yoga - Yoga Near Me

Suzanne puts the Om in OMG I've been working with Suzanne at my club for 2 years. She is someone who will make your life better. I recently completed her 12 week Root to Rise Program. I made more progress than in 2 years of studio yoga. I am mostly interested in movement, but Suzanne provides meditation, breath-work and all sorts of support. I've had about 12 yoga instructors, what she offers is qualitatively different. She really is an anatomical expert (trust me, I'm a doctor) and she's extremely experienced. You will not find a smarter, funnier and more engaged teacher anywhere. She will encourage and push your athleticism in a steady direction. Among my accomplishments: 1) I saw a picture of myself with a very forward head, looked like I was photo-bombing my own body. That has now resolved. 2) More practically and remarkably, I've learned to really engage my core with kidney and pelvic loops and have better endurance and recovery in Masters Swimming. 3) I've really become a devotee of the Steel Mace too. So invest in yourself, get some personalized attention. You'll feel healthy faster. Predictions for the top emerging diseases to affect adults in 2026 include: 1) Subacute Rebar-Rhomboid Myopathy 2) Frozen Baguette Syndrome 3) Osteo-Churrosis Multiplex. Stay ahead of the curves. read more

I traveled with Suzanne and a fantastic group of humans to Nepal and the Annapurna Base Camp in 2025, and it was an experience I will never forget! Everything was organized for us, from travel between destinations to a cooking class in Katmandu to unique yoga practices along the way. Suzanne's lightheartedness, sense of humor, and intentionality incorporating yoga into the trek made each day such a gift. I returned home changed, and I can't wait for the next adventure! read more

I'm definitely seeing a shift in me that has made a huge difference! I'm enjoying Suzanne's Root to Rise program, adding 20 minutes of joint mobility, steel mace or flow before my work day. read more

Suzanne is an incredible yoga instructor and an great human. I met her when she was teaching at a yoga studio in the mission, over a year ago and she somehow convinced me to join her on a trek to Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal. It was one of the most memorable trips I have ever taken. She led us through meditation, journaling, yoga and laughter as we made our way up and down the mountains of the Himalayas. I am grateful to her for believing I could do this and also for troubleshooting my knee pain after hours of hiking. I don't know how she did it, but whatever she did worked. She really knows how the body works and takes the time to work with you on what you need. read more

I am not a fan of yoga though I appreciate the beauty and usefulness of all one can practice. I offer this review more for the extremely positive energy and anatomical knowledge which Suzanne offers in her teaching. Seeing 70 year olds doing high elevation headstands (!!) and warrior poses is inspiring and hearing her students meeting challenging goals is confirming of suzannne's teaching. Me? She got me to follow her far from any yoga studio- to Nepal's Annapurna Trek- to continue learning about my body's needs and capabilities... and all the while, with a smile. Thank you Suzanne! read more

As a new yoga teacher, I have found that being a mentee of Suzanne has supported me to feel more confident in my teaching. In her mentoring program, we discuss what kind of cues are appropriate for what kind of people, common problem areas in poses in general, and ways to prepare and strengthen the body for different asanas. I always feel inspired when I walk away from our sessions together! - Nicole Stone Yoga Teacher at The Yoga Room in Berkeley read more

I love working with Suzanne. I've been taking her yoga classes and attending her retreats every chance I get over the last 6 years. I used to find it intimidating to do more challenging poses - but not with Suzanne. She walks me through each movement, breaking down the steps in a way that bolsters my confidence so that before I realize it I find myself in a position I'd never dreamed possible. She is an excellent teacher, incredibly knowledgeable and very in tune with what my body needs. I always leave with a killer workout. But perhaps my favorite part of taking her classes is the laugher and levity she brings. Suzanne keeps me smiling even as your thighs are burning. I would give her 10 stars if I could! read more

When I was recovering from several repetitive use injuries, Suzanne's guidance was more helpful than the PTs in helping me recover. I've gained a lot of knowledge from her, and would especially recommend Suzanne to anybody looking for a customized yoga flow to support healing and targeted strength building. read more

Suzanne is THE best. I have taken many yoga classes with many teachers over the years, and Suzanne stands out among them. Suzanne's technical expertise in kinesiology and functional movement is unparalleled. She can explain, in intricate detail, (even from just watching on Zoom) exactly how to adjust a posture for maximum benefit. When I began taking classes with Suzanne, I was experiencing lower back pain. Within a few months of following her instructions, I noticed the pain beginning to ease. I had never even mentioned to Suzanne that this pain existed---I had thought for decades that it was just a fact of my life as a former gymnast and dancer. But as I learned the subtle strengthening and alignment strategies that she taught, my every day posture began to shift, and...voilà! Problem solved. Highly recommend this teacher! read more

I was fortunate to train under Suzanne for a 200 hr. teacher training program in Berkeley. Suzanne, a self described "anatomy geek"; is a rare yoga educator who combines her compassionate teaching style with warmth and humor! In fact, she is a delight to learn from since she is always engaging and informative. Suzanne took extra steps to make me feel welcome in the program; particularly since I am not a flexible person! She readily conveyed to me the importance of understanding the asana through study of anatomy ! I look forward to participating in future workshops with Suzanne since she is a true treasure; and I would highly recommend taking any classes, workshops, trainings or seminars she teaches ! Bob M. Wow, Suzanne Zuber is nothing short of a yoga-whisperer! I recently attended her beginners yoga workshop, and I couldn't be more satisfied. Apart from being in extremely great shape herself, she is very educated and integrates a deep understanding of human anatomy into her classes. I received a lot of individual attention, and left with tools in my belt that will last me a lifetime. On top of that, she is hilarious. I have never felt so at ease, and had so much fun in a yoga workshop! Best experience, by far. read more

I started doing yoga with Suzanne in the winter time as I was training for a race. I'm a runner and knew that I needed to balance my training with yoga, which would increase my strength, tone, and endurance. In a word, I have become addicted to Suzanne's classes. She is inspirational, has a deep understanding of alignment (sooo important in yoga), FUN, and so down to earth. One can throw a stone and find a yoga class within a few meters. However, finding a yoga teacher who I would be willing to follow wherever she goes...well, that's the holy grail. Suzanne is a unicorn, one of a kind, and has helped me reach the goals I didn't think I could. I am grateful to Suzanne's expertise and encouragement. I only wish I could go to ALL of her classes, but unfortunately, work beckons! read more

Suzanne is the best yoga instructor I have ever had. She uses humor when appropriate, does not take her self too seriously and clearly knows her stuff. As a beginner she made me feel at ease in her class, always offers multiple different adjustments to keep me feeling good and is super conscious of any physical issues or pain students have and offering alternatives to those moves. I highly recommend her to experienced yoga students and beginners. read more

I found Suzanne to be a very knowledgeable, kind teacher. Her classes are designed to quiet the mind and exercise the whole body with a special focus on the core muscles. Suzanne has a profound understanding of how the body functions and she applies it in finding alternative movements to suit different people with different needs and challenges. Her classes always offer food for thought and her great sense of humour makes it very easy to relate to her. I'm very sorry I won't be able to attend her classes any longer, since I'm moving back to Europe. read more

Suzanne always asks about students' needs (in body & mind) and adjusts the class to meet those needs. Her deep knowledge and experience allow her to be spontaneous -- it's quite amazing! She gives lots of options, but encourages us all to do things (safely) that we wouldn't have thought possible. And, Suzanne's classes are FUN, thanks to her friendly and funny personality. So glad she's teaching both evening and morning classes at Yogakula. read more
