When we first moved to Berkeley I didn't know where to go for urgent care. I was hesitant to come to this one because it's in downtown- I didn't know how clean it would be, the parking situation etc. But my kid (I have 2 under 5) got sick before I established a local pediatrician so I took a chance. This place is awesome! The staff is kind, the place is clean, there is a free parking lot, and best of all if you come in with a child if there is an opening in regular pediatrics they will send you up there. We actually ended up choosing this Sutter Health for or regular care and have not looked back! read more

Really really disappointed in the level of care I have received here for my maternity care. This is my second child I will be having and the amount of information and help I have received is mind blowing. Sure, it isn't my first time at the rodeo. However, it's been 4 years and to assume that I know what tests or when to pre-register (or even if that's a thing) is bonkers. Also, I have had 2 horrible appointment experiences. One of them I had to wait 1.5 hours for my scheduled appointment without an explanation or a realistic time check. The other, they called me 1 hour prior to my (again) scheduled appointment to cancel and try to reschedule. And I can't even begin to write the back and forth with them on that one. AND, once at that RE-scheduled appointment I had to wait 45 minutes to be seen. With a toddler. So, I will be having my child within the next week. I am praying that the care I receive from the physician I get is not like what I have received during these experiences. read more

This was the best medical care experience I've had in years. We arrived about 10:30 on a Monday morning and got right in to see the Doc. He did a quick examination and ordered X-Rays, which were quickly taken in the adjoining room. They said it would take 15 - 20 minutes to read the X-Rays. Nope, 10 minutes, max. The prognosis was good. I was given a couple of options for something to ease my pain. I chose what was right for me and asked for a Physical Therapy referral. All was wrapped up in the well-organized discharge papers that included the prescription (already sent to the pharmacy), the PT referral, home care instructions. These papers appears within a couple of minutes after the doctor finishing up with me. The place is clean, modern, neat, light. Everybody I interacted with was pleasant and efficient. I think that this is the best urgent care facility in the Berkeley-Albany-El Cerrito area. Above all else the staff were professional, knowledgeable, respectful and efficient. The facilities are clean, modern and well maintained. Now as for wait times, as one might expect with these things, your mileage may vary. However one can always call ahead to find out if the wait times are acceptable. They will be realistic about it. As for me, I called ahead and the wait time they told me (1/2 hour - it was a quiet day) turned out to be accurate even though I was expecting extra paperwork/hassle as it was my first visit. However registration was a cinch; paperwork was kept to a minimum and I was awaiting my turn for treatment within no time. Overall, I'm very satisfied because I got the treatment I sought in the most pleasant and efficient manner possible. read more

Almost all of my experiences at Urgent Care throughout my life have involved long wait times, so I only go if I am desperate. They are so efficient and nice here! I was seen with no appointment within 15 minutes and all of the employees I came in contact with were very friendly and respectful. If you are in the East Bay and need to go to an urgent care, I highly recommend this one. read more

Worst care I have ever recieved. My wife had a painful sore on her butt, and we were still made to wait 4 hours (even tho she could not sit down). The place is closed and she is still inside waiting to be seen by the doctor. She has been in the doctors office for a full hour( why call her back if she has to wait another hour for the doctor to get off her ass. Despite the building being closed their staff is still aitting in the front instead of helping their coworkers get more patients taken care of. This is not urgent and this is not care. I have been discriminated twice by the urgent care receptionist this past year. She acknowledged my presence both times then let another person cut in front of me. I have been a Sutter patient for quite a many years and had always received outstanding customer service except for the last two years. The first time it happened I called patient relations and was told someone would get back with me but no one did. This time the director did call and said they would work on creating a means that was more fair. read more

Not only was I able to get in quickly, but the very compassionate nurse practitioner provided a conservative first line of treatment but gave clear directions on assessing whether a second line would be needed. How is it that this place is called urgent care and it takes close to 3 hours to be seen by anyone. I even stated the reason why I'm here and they took no initiative to make sure i was even waiting comfortably. It was not unil my husband said something that I could sit down on something without hurting myself. (keep in mind that was after 2 hours.) Definitely do not recommend to come here if you want to seek actual urgent medical attention. Oh and on the other note, writing this review as I'm still waiting. read more

The front desk staff and my RN were the best part of my visit. They were friendly and warm. I can't say the same for any one else I interacted with in the office. However, the care I got was subpar. Two different doctors spoke with me at different times without communicating with each other, and it felt like neither doctor took my medical history seriously. I left feeling like they had wasted my time, and scheduled a visit elsewhere the following day. Not worth the trip. read more

walked in for help and was greeted by a cop who yelled at me for looking around and said i can't just walk into a hospital without an appt. cop told me i had to go to an er. how is this acceptable? walked by a police cars lights in front of the entrance so they were high strung on another level. read more

I went to this clinic a half hour before it opened. The visit was $125 if you don't have insurance. They took me in early and I was ready to see the doctor at 1 pm. There was no wait!!!! The facility is SUPER clean and the parking was free!!!! The registration agent, the nurse, and Dr. Chavez were all awesome. Dr. Chavez was so kind and understanding. He listened to me and showed genuine concern. He did not rush me. He encouraged and answered all my questions. He calmed me greatly. I was very nervous initially, and he totally understood. I am SO glad I went to this location. It was hard to find the best urgent care to attend, in this area. It took hours to find the right one. Lastly, I just want to add that there is no lab here for blood work. However, they can write prescriptions and give you great advice. I would definitely go back!!!! read more

They have always been super fast and super professional. I just came here after going to another urgent care where I was told that it may be 3 hours or more. Then Sutter checked me in and got me roomed in 3 minutes, what a delightful contrast! I've always been very happy with their service at this urgent care. read more

Sutter Urgent Care breakdown -- Berkeley Very unpleasant experience. Came at 11 AM today. Receptionist says it may be ONE hour. An hour later, my vitals get taken. Then told it will be 2 hours MORE. Finally in 3 hours I get seen. Meanwhile people waiting hours, then told to wait 2 hours more, cannot leave to eat something, as the guard said he will not let them back in. (They claim security -- but just give us a timed- dated pass!) The staff tried and were pleasant (except receptionist, who I found had not even asked the back-office what current wait times were. She just guessed, which upset all the patients.). The manager of the site should be written up -- no client concern, no compassion, no management. Where is the backup staffing when this facility was surged at 10AM? (We were told it had been like this all day!) Receptionist would not call the other Sutter sites to see if they could take some of us. read more

I've been to this location five times for myself and my children. Every time has been fantastic. It may have been luck, but I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes to be seen and every doctor was always thorough and considerate. Very mixed feelings about this place. Went there twice for 2 unrelated incidences with the kid within 2 weeks (sigh). Both times short wait times, friendly staff. However, both times I was not too happy with the doctors. The first one treated a broken small bone as a minor nuisance and was totally vague in terms of follow-up instructions. The second one sent us to the ER after a sloppy and short exam. He was unable to diagnose major discomfort that turned out to have a trivial reason. The ER doctors made that correct diagnosis after a thorough exam. No ultrasound, x-ray, or blood work needed to be done. Which was what the Urgent Care doc suggested to come to a conclusive diagnosis. Maybe they are just not great pediatricians? read more

We got there a little after 11 AM on Sunday, were second in line for registration and were seen by an ER level MD within 15 min. She seemed very competent and concerned about my GF's pain condition, ordered blood lab tests which were drawn minutes later and gave her an Rx for an appropriate medication. This was just before Memorial Day so we were impressed that they were even open throughout the holiday weekend. We even received info on how to access the labs by the friendly staff and how to register for a new MD on this side of the Bay. I would highly recommend them. read more

After reading the other reviews I felt unsure about going here, but I'm so glad I did. With a possible toe fracture I needed good urgent care. Everything was terrific from the moment I arrived. I was helped into a wheelchair by the security guard, who stayed with me while waiting in line all the way through the check-in process. The line was less than 10 mins and the waiting room time after that was a 2 mins wait. Everyone, from the med tech, to the doctor, to the x-ray tech to the nurse was fantastic. Professional, caring, and knowledgable. Covid precautions were all in place. They gave each patient a paper mask to put over your cloth mask. Social distancing was practiced. The facility was clean and bright. I was in and out in 1.5 hours, along with the proper boot for my foot and instructions for follow-up. I definitely recommend this center. Very grateful to the compassionate staff and the excellent care I received. read more

I have been to urgent care only twice, this venue the second time and am now clearly blessed with unusually good experiences. Sutter Urgent Care on Milvia is simply outstanding. You want speed and competence when things are not bad enough for the ER but bad enough to need to see someone competent asap. All of those basics were met and then some. Really good , quick pleasant reception; reasonable wait with everyone taken in order. Great staff, nurses and practitioners. All just delightful and knowledgeable. And problem diagnosed and on the way to being solved. I arrived at shortly before noon on a Saturday with only three ahead of me, the first of whom was taken immediately. The facility is spotless. I hope everyone has as good an experience here, if you must go, as I did. read more

I am sad to say this place let me down and I've been a patient as long as I can remember. The east bag clearly needs to revamp its attempt at taking care of its patients. My husband came in here on a Sunday afternoon seeking what he knew for him to be "urgent" help. He knew it wasnt an emergency but urgent enough that he couldn't wait for his PCP. He has certain issues that require more care, time and consideration. The MD he saw turned him away saying "there Is no magic pill for your issue, it's a lifelong battle" - thanks captain obvious(sarcasm loading) what's more appealing is we asked for an alternative or referral to someone that can help, refused again and deferred to PCP. Now I understand protocol, I can appreciate how theres a system in place but I would think when a patient brings to any MD or medical professional a chance of them harming themselves, they would be heard and helped. I am stunned that this happened to us because this was Sunday. Monday my husband did unfortunately find himself in a difficult position and kept asking for help unable to manage his symptoms as he had told MD he would. Where the hell is the compassion? Where is the accountability? Where is your medical oath to help? Un freaking believable! What are we paying our health dues for. read more

I went to this "Urgent Care" for a minor issue - diarrhea. I was seen by a Nurse Practitioner. When I got the bill, I was billed for a new patient visit under a specialist. My insurance requires a $20 co pay for urgent care visits, why am I being billed for a "specialists visit". I pushed back and all the billing representatives agreed that something looked odd. I was finally told that SUTTER EAST BAY URGENT CARE can not bill for URGENT CARE under California law....wait WHAT?!?!?. I was literally told that "this is a common complaint, and it is misleading but there isn't anything they can do about it because by law they can't bill for urgent care". Ok so STOP ADVERTISING YOURSELF AS URGENT CARE! read more

This is the height of the cold and flu season and there is ONE dr on duty! I was fourth in line for registration and I've been waiting over THREE hours to be seen. You can't make urgent care appointments here and my PCP has no same day appointments for one WEEK! Sutter needs to do better. I probably would have been seen by now if I went to the ER! read more

The absolute worst shake-down pseudo-professional syndicate going. because my normal doctor couldn't see me for several days and because I was calling in regard to discomfort in my chest, I was advised to go here. when I arrived, I paid my co-pay and then was administered an ekg. The nurse practitioner said it didn't look great and asked where I was parked. I said right out front. he asked if someone could meet me out front and follow me as I drove to hospital. he was then overruled by a doctor saying that I shouldn't drive there on my own. when I contacted my friend to pick me up, the doctor then told me I needed to go in an ambulance. I said that wasn't necessary (my pain was 2 on the 1-10 spectrum), and yet I was FORBIDDEN from driving and my keys were taken away. EVERY SINGLE TEST on the heart was not only negative, but showed it in perfect condition. Sutter, it seems, didn't have a comparison to show that my ekg wasn't abnormal, despite the fact that I went and had a full heart work up three years prior at Sutter cardiac center. now, I'm fortunate the news was good. however, I just received a bill from Berkeley ambulance for $2000! for less than one mile drive when I was prevented from driving my own car. Lucky for my impending lawsuit against Sutter that I have text messages telling my neighbor that my keys had been taken away and she didn't need to come get me. OUTRAGEOUS and SHAMEFUL shakedown. I had a great experience this evening. Checked in at 6:24p on a Thursday and was out by 6:55p. Thought I would be there all night and contemplated not going, but the pain was too bad to wait. I seriously have never been in and out of a medical facility that fast. There was no wait and everyone was extremely friendly from the front desk to the doctor. Picked up my prescription at Walgreens and now I'm home!! A++ experience for me. read more

Horrible experience. The customer service staff behind the check in desk are not friendly at all. They act as if they are being bothered when you need to check in. The wait times are very long. I waited for 35 min and asked one lady if she could find out how much longer to get an X-ray and she told me that she was off the clock but she would check... first of all... why are you sitting at the front desk when you are off the clock? How is one to know this and how rude to say this to a customer. Expect to be asked questions when you are sitting at a front desk regardless of being on or off. She returned and said it would be 15 minutes. I waited another 15 and asked another gal and she told me there was in issue with the imaging machine and it would be another 15 min wait. So I waited. Was told that it would be another 15-20 min wait by another gal who came out from the back to explain to me that "there are patients that are priority" and ahead of me. Basically made myself and my two kids feel as if we were not important and they never gave us a specific time that we would be seen. I had three different people telling me three different reasons as to why we were not a priority and to wait FOREVER. We never got the X-ray. We left after waiting almost an hr. I was irritated because instead of listening to my questions the two customer service reps (one off the clock and still there) were very rude and confrontational. read more

I was worried about going here because it only got 2 stars. After reading the reviews, most complaints had to do with the wait. A long wait seems pretty normal at Urgent Care, and I was more concerned with getting good care, so I gave it a try. I had an infected bug bite, and thought I would need antibiotics. It's a Sunday, and I didn't want to wait until Monday to see my GP. I showed up at 9:45 (they open at 10). I was the 2nd person there, and was seen right at 10 (if not a couple of minutes before). The nurse who took my vitals was very friendly and quick. The doctor came in almost immediately after she left. He was also friendly and efficient. He took a look at my bite, and decided that I didn't need antibiotics and told me to just put a hot compress on it and watch for symptoms that would necessitate systemic antibiotics. I am grateful that I don't have to worry about how dangerous the bite might be AND that I wasn't a victim of overprescribed antibiotics. I will definitely come back if needed. I would just recommend coming 15 minutes before opening if possible. read more
