I'm no Urgent Care expert (in fact, this was my first visit to such a facility) but Sutter Urgent Care seems to be doing it right. We arrived around 19:30 (they close at 20:00) on a weekday evening and were greeted immediately. We were lead back to a room by a nurse within ten minutes of turning up. Not long after that a doctor appeared, diagnosed my husband straight away, and prescribed him medicine to treat his condition (which we were able to pick up before the pharmacy closed for the evening). When it was all all said and done, we were here for significantly less than an hour. This is a clean, well-run facility with courteous and kind staff - I'd happily recommend Sutter Urgent Care in Berkeley to anyone with a minor illness or injury that can be treated outside a hospital setting (folks with serious emergencies should go to the ER). read more

Once again, another Sutter Urgent Care that needs to get itself together. I am negative for covid but have been experiencing a pretty nasty cough for three weeks now. After a debacle at the Oakland Sutter Walk-In Urgent Care, I tried this Sutter location earlier today. Before driving over, I looked at the website, which is nothing more than their address and phone number, and a call to their number said no appointments necessary. Nothing about what to do with my particular set of symptoms. Fine, great. So I drive over only to be told that with my symptoms I needed to call the number on the poster outside and make an appointment. Only, when I was outside there was no poster. I walked out and someone at that exact moment was just then setting it up. So, I call the number and am told they can't see me until later in the day. Several issues here: 1. Instead of having patients drive themselves all the way to their clinic AND ONLY THEN tell them if they have any sort of cough that they need to call a number on a poster outside to make an appointment is a huge disservice (bordering on disrespectful) to a sick individual who requires medical care. 2. If this IS going to be your pitiful policy, then perhaps it would be wise to put this information on your website and on your outgoing phone message. That way, you see, a sick individual won't make the drive over to your office only to be told they have to make an appointment at a later day and/or time using a completely different phone number than the one on your website. 3. If you are going to require separate appointments for respiratory ailments because, as the receptionist put it, you "don't want covid patients at your medical facility" (THAT really has me flummoxed - Scarlet Letter much??), then have the decency to staff that part of the clinic during your regular business hours. 4. Public and private restrictions have been minimalized or jettisoned all together, even the government has said the covid emergency is over. I'm all for masks and remaining vigilant, and I'm even for going back to restrictions if a new variant starts to cause havoc again, but it's time for Sutter offices to stop treating people with respiratory symptoms like they have a big huge "C" plastered on their chest. You're a medical office! You violate your oath to take care of the sick, and, quite frankly, you insult people who are simply looking for care. So...BEWARE...if you have a respiratory ailment, don't head to any of the Sutter Urgent Care facilities. They won't tell you via their website or phone message, but they won't see you. They'd rather you drive all the way to the office, and THEN tell you that essentially they consider you a leper and that you will have to make an appointment elsewhere on a later date, at a later time. And then once they send you away, you better hope beyond hope that you don't drop dead from shortness of breath or an asthma attack. A response was posted by Jason at Sutter, who claims they were going to further examine their policies around covid precautions. THAT WAS IN FEBRUARY 2021!! This urgent care is an unethical RIP off! I went in for a strained muscle pain. Dr Ansali came in and said that he couldn't do anything at this office...I should go to the ER. He did not look at the muscle on my shoulder at all. I told him that I should have been advised of this at the registration desk, prior to going into the office for treatment. They simply take your money for entering the back office. The patient advocate department is also a joke. They advocate on behalf of Sutter, not the patient. My complaint was dismissed so they could bill for the visit, regardless. I feel so duped and I WISH that I would have read the reviews prior to going. Sutter Health has a pretty office setting but this bad is business for patients. read more

My little sister came into this urgent care after she fell and sliced her leg on a rusty post. The hours are til 8 and she arrived at 7:50 and one of the staff made the shooing away motion saying "No,go." They didn't show any consideration or apologize for the inconsistent hours posted of when they actually stop accepting patients. Not being able to drive, she then had to Uber elsewhere. read more

Two stars because Dr. Parmar herself was quite helpful and efficient. However, Sutter Health as an organization viciously overcharges for medical help. All it takes is a quick search of Sutter Health in Google News to see this. An appointment that according to Healthcare Blue Book should fairly cost $108 costs $211 at Sutter. They are aggressively expanding and using their number of locations to raise prices. Also, when I called to get any kind of price range estimate for an x-ray or mri apparently billing had no information available. Pricing transparency is important. read more

Horrible doctor experience with doctor Bueno Del Bosque -- I felt talked to condescendingly, follow up questions ignored, and minimization of my pain and discomfort. I hope to leave the entire Sutter system after this simply because I would prefer to spend the time finding doctors who aren't rude, aren't trying to push through as many patients as possible, and who don't minimize my pain as "standard among millions of Americans." He also had tests run that I wasn't told about which led to more confusion about what he thought was going on and why. I learned about tests only from discharge paperwork, never discussed with me. If I had known what that experience would be like, I would've stayed home with my pain. I have never posted a review anywhere but today was so awful, I needed an outlet read more

February 19th after an accident where my knee was like a balloon I want here. Everyone was very nice however after an exam and X-ray they sent me home on crutches saying it was a strain most likely with instructions to start exercising the knee the next day. Mind you my knee was bigger than my thigh by a lot. This didn't seem right to me so I called them back the next am. The lady who answered said the DR was there again and would ask him. He said yes start doing exercises. Mind you my leg was so swollen I couldn't bend it. Long story short called my physical Therapist who said NO don't do anything except ice and elevate. One MRI and 7 weeks later and counting I have a torn Miniscus and a fractured patella. I don't expect them to have found that on the day of course but to send me home the way they did is flabbergasting. Sutter sent me a review form to fill out and I let them know this. I gave my feedback and paid the $590 for the visit and never heard a word. I don't expect urgent care to be perfect but if I didn't know better I would have some serious damage to my body due to their instructions. read more

Last night, I twisted the heck out of my ankle and foot, and I didn't end up going to urgent care until the next morning. While I was seen quickly, and the x-rays were taken quickly, I was then discharged by a nurse, who said "well, if you want, I can wrap your foot in an ace, bandage, or if it hurts, you can wear a boot." no Dr spoke to me, I never got to ask any questions. They say that I have no break or ligament damage. But they can't tell me why my foot hurts so much. My broken arm hurt less than this foot. I hate Sutter, and I wish I had more choices in getting my care. There is a reason why I use One Medical. Unfortunately, they don't have an urgent care place. read more

Completely underwhelmed by Dr.Oh. Terrible listener, inexperienced diagnostician, just a waste of time. I'm calling him Dr. Oh-No!

I accidentally sliced my finger while cutting enormous lemons with a ceramic knife. I didn't want the hassle of an emergency room visit, so I googled urgent care and found this place. Score! I had gone to this facility a long time ago when my primary cars doc was there. They've made it look so much more inviting! As soon as I walked in, the receptionist summoned an aide who immediately rewrapped my gushing finger and gave me an ice pack to slow the bleeding. Registration was a snap and the woman who helped me was so kind, professional, and efficient. I hardly had my butt in the waiting room chair when they called my name. I wound up with five stitches sewn expertly by Russell S Del Rosario, NP. He exercised amazing skill, judgment, and compassion. (He continually checked in with me to make sure I didn't feel the stitches being embroidered on my finger.) Nurse Emily came in and dressed up my finger so beautifully it would gain entry to the Black & White Ball. I'm so happy this facility exists. I've been to many urgent care facilities and this is by far one of the best experiences I've had. Clean. Efficient. Friendly. Compassionate. And Skilled. What more could you ask for? This place is amazing. Unfortunately I had to bring my friend here on her birthday (10/6/2018). She has severe asthma and had recently caught a cold. Terrible combination! We wanted her to feel better but not have her entire bday spent in the hospital emergency waiting room, so Sutter Urgent Care it was! We arrived around 1pm that Saturday. There was only one person in the waiting room and my friend was seen within a few minutes. Unfortunately, I have forgotten her nurse's name but she was awesome. She didn't ask unnecessary questions and beat around the mulberry bush, but she got right to the business at hand! She took my friend's vitals, and sent in the doctor. The doctor ordered a breathing treatment for my friend. After her first breathing treatment she showed signs of improvement, but the attentive doctor ordered one more to be certain, he also discharged her with 3 days' worth of medication to keep her on the mend. Side Note: The facility was very clean and well kempt! The staff here was empathetic and aware. My friend and I both say thank you!! read more

I am finally making time to write this review, because if you decide to seek care at this facility for anything causing you pain, you really should read this review first. You may want to seek help somewhere else! This is an incident treated by Dr. Jennifer Owens... Two weeks ago, my husband woke up early on a Sunday limping to the bathroom, in fact, I had to assist him. We had been moving for about a week, and he aggravated an old issue in his right foot. He took 1000mg of Tylenol and at 9 am he was still in significant pain. We typically go to UCSF (we're from SF) but I told him that his issue can be taken care of at an urgent care closeby. I dropped him off at this urgent care and when he got discharged, I asked how it went and he was so irrated. He said he saw Dr. Jennifer Owens. She took an xray (there was no injury) which was normal, and she told him to take off work and take Tylenol. He explained to her he couldn't take off for a sore foot and worked in an extremely busy oral surgery practice in SF and needed pain relief and crutches to make BART. She declined to even provide the pain relief. I called back to the urgent care and explained to the receptionist that we were unhappy with the service and that we understood she recommends time off work, but that was not possible right now. We needed to help him make it to work until I can make him an appt with a podiatrist. Dr. Owens declined to help further and said we could try ibuprofen which I said he cannot take due to another health issue. I work in healthcare myself and knew that foot pain without an injury is not a reason for an ER visit but is more appropriate for an urgent care on a Sunday. I ended up just taking him to the ER. We did that and was in and out in 30 mins. At the ER we were provided with crutches, an ortho shoe/boot, and pain medication to hold us out until a podiatrist appointment with the instructions to ice and rest all day. He was able to go to work the next day. Dr. Owens is allowing the opiate crisis to prevent her from providing good patient care to those in the community who are at a very low risk for an opiate addiction. She has access to look up how often my husband has filled scripts for narcotics in California. She has access to his previous visits and records as well. There's absolutely no reason to have a person come into that office and leave with nothing he needed. Someone is limping and you don't offer crutches??? Madness. It is an absolute shame that he landed in an ER in the middle of a pandemic for foot pain without an injury. I just hope that this is an isolated occurrence and does not represent how this urgent practices medicine. Pain is a vital sign that has to be taken care of and we who work in healthcare take an oath to provide excellent high quality patient care. Just for a second, STOP, and think how would we want ourselves or our family members to be treated if they come into my practice for help. If this is not an isolated incident, then you guys really need to figure out how you can better take care of people with real, painful injuries or complaints. Should you have a hard fast rule or should you treat pain by individual basis?? If a person cannot take off work for days, should we then wash our hands and decline further assistance??? On top of that, they want $75 for Dr. Owens and the foot xray. That actually made me chuckle! read more

I received excellent care from Dr. Jennifer Owen. She had also provided superb care to my partner previously, and I'm getting the impression that she's sort of "manning" the place. I found her to be extremely competent, efficient, and caring, making sure that she had addressed all of my questions. Plus it looks like she figured out what my ailment was - a recurring thing that other doctors hadn't been able to pinpoint. The only thing I would change would be to give patients the option to wait outside -especially when it's sunny!- instead of in the waiting room. That would make it feel covid safer. I'm so upset with this place. Gave me misleading information. I went here because I was having really bad stomach pains. A nurse hotline recommended an urgent care. I didn't want to go to the ER because I felt like it may not be that serious. When I arrived, I told the front desk that I have medi-cal alameda alliance. She checked my insurance to see if it was active and she told me that it was not. Which was caused by the social service office. She told me that I can pay for the service and use the receipt to get reimbursed by medical. Which I agreed since I really needed to see a doctor that day. Saw the doctor, couldn't do anything. Said I may have appendicitis and they didn't have the technology to give me an X-ray. Sends me to Alta bates...yaaayyyy. Not. Got a bill, over $100 more after paying 150 out of pocket. Talked to the billing dept and they said they don't contract with alameda alliance. If she informed me that in the first place then I would have never gotten my service there. read more

Beware if you are getting a flu shot here. You can get a free shot at many places. NOT at Sutter, even if you have Sutter insurance. Sutter emailed me to get a flu shot and did not mention any charge. I did not expect a charge given that flu shots are free at many places. When I signed in at Sutter for the shot I was not informed of a charge or asked for my insurance info. A week later I was sent a bill for $72! I would have definitely gone to a free place if I had known. Quite a dishonest billing system Sutter has and I will avoid them in the future. read more

Came three times for Monkeypox and some other problems. The first two appointments went well. For Monkeypox the Dr. told me not to worry because it is a "homosexual disease." I did not like her response. We are in a pandemic. The Dr. should encourage patients to get tested if they come and report symptoms. I don't feel comfortable coming back. read more

Just terrible practices all around. 90% of staff isn't medical, just paper pushers to shuffle people in and out. Don't expect lots of time or attention from the one doc on duty. Didn't get my issue addressed. Advertised as an urgent care clinic but billed like an ED. Dealing with billing was a nightmare of them not keeping good records and having no idea of the previous conversations. Prepare for an extended wait time because just like at emergency rooms, staff are legally required to keep patients' for observation after certain medications/treatments so it tends to fill up treatment rooms and contribute to extended wait times. The waiting area could be bigger and more accommodating. The care was systematic and efficient. Medical staff made eye contact and listened to me. I was surprised to see an MD rather than an NP, and this guy was young and informed. read more

As soon as you walk in, the staff at the counter, and all the medical assistants are very professional and kind. I was seen by Dr. Kelsey McKinley and she is truly amazing. She is caring, listens and addresses EVERY concern. She has a very pleasant personality and is very knowledgeable. The location has a parking lot, but it's not always easy to get a parking spot. OK, so on my way home from work I stopped at this Urgent Care Center. It was my first time there. They have their own parking lot. It was about 145 pm and I was the second person in line. The receptionist took all my information and told her I had signs and symptoms of the common cold. This took about 7 minutes and then proceeded to the waiting room. My wait was no more than 10 minutes and was first seen by the medical assistant for vital signs and a brief history. Then I was seen by Christine( I believe a NP) who checked me out and explained her thoughts of different types of medications. I did not need an appointment. Really nice location but the set up here is weird. I followed my primary doctor here after she located from Downtown Oakland. Pulled up to the front and noticed a parking lot - it looked like it might be for employees only, so I didn't bother and parked on the street. Street parking on most of these streets were for 2 hours. When I walked in, there were 3 or 4 stations set up with whom I assume are registration clerks. I stood there for a hot minute while two of them attended to other patients, one in the middle was using the computer (not helping anyone) and someone who looked like a supervisor (maybe?) stood with her coffee for a second and then proceeded on to her office/cubicle space. I didn't want to stand there idle, with no greeting so I made my way upstairs. Upstairs I approached a clerk behind a very tiny desk and asked if this is where I could register, she said I was to register downstairs, but she could also help me here too - okay girl, JUST DO IT. The whole time she looks bored and generally disinterested. I got registered, paid my co-pay, and took my seat. The waiting area is really small but there's free wi-fi. After waiting for my name to be called, I went into the room, got my vitals done by the MA (she didn't report back to me my blood pressure or temp. I had to ASK - Sutter, please do better) and waited for my doc to come in. My appointment was scheduled for 10:30am but I didn't see my doctor until about 10:50am- she's getting a pass simply because she's preggo. Overall, my experience was lacking the personal touch. For such a nice, soothing facility, the staff here leaves a lot to be desired. read more

I came in to be seen by the urgent care for chest pain and she just asked my name and date of birth and then told me to have seat in the waiting area. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! They will just send you to the ER. Save your time and money. I wish I had followed Monai S's advise in her recent review because exactly the same thing happened to me. I booked an appointment with my regular doctor at Sutter. A few days later I received a message and call from a Sutter nurse. The nurse asked me a dozen questions and advised me to go to urgent care, urgently. I arrived at Sutter Urgent Care and I told the desk staff my reason for visiting. I was seen by a nurse, and then Dr. Ansali who told me that despite being told to go to urgent care by Sutter, he could do nothing to diagnose or treat my condition and I needed to go to the ER. He offered to call an ambulance for me, I said, do you think I need an ambulance. He said, I could take an ambulance if I wanted. Never in my life have I come across such ill informed, money-grabbing, untrustworthy healthcare "providers". Obviously, this i my opinion based on my experience. read more

Urgent care without the "urgent" part. On the phone they said they could do a walk in strep throat test for a flat fee. In reality, it was a long process much like an an emergency room, with forms, paperwork, waiting, sick people to sit next to, more waiting, no idea when the waiting will end, more waiting, waiting waiting. Where phone inquiries go to die. Their receptionists were not helpful at all when I called in to get some information. They forwarded me to the supposed number of where I needed to go and then their phone directory gave me the run around and kept forwarding me back to them. After 3 times of this, I talked to them and they preceded to put me on a 30 min phone wait, and then the phone disconnected. Sad. read more

I received excellent care by the office and medical staff on the day of my visit. However, the overall follow up from this clinic was way below expectations. I was referred to 2 doctors out of network for my HMO so of course both requests were denied - the urgent care doctor wanted me seen ASAP and whoever submitted the request to my HMO didn't mark it as URGENT, therefore, it went into the normal queue for approvals (7-10 days) only to be denied because the surgeon is out of network. The doctor followed up and asked why I hadn't seen the surgeon and requested that I call him back, which I did and never received a returned phone call. I'm thankful that the antibiotics are working but now a week has gone by and my PCP is still working on getting authorization to see a surgeon - this time IN MY NETWORK. #frustrated read more

Fantastic experience here! I came in at 7:30 on a Wednesday night, and there was no one else waiting. The receptionist was friendly and helpful, and I was seen pretty much right away. I found both the nurse and doctor to have great bedside manner, and I feel that the care I was given was top notch. I was dreading coming here because I expected it to take ages, but it was so quick and pleasant. The facility is modern and spotlessly clean. Despite customer care's attempt to help me, I received a letter stating that Sutter still wants my money because the tongue laceration was gaping. They did not address the fact that the sutures that were meant to stay in for a week did not stay in on two separate occasions, or that another of your doctors and my dentist told me that the sutures put me at increased risk of infection and caused additional damage to the injury, with zero positive medical benefit. The doctor who treated me clearly made several mistake and did not know how to treat the wound I had. Usually when businesses make mistakes they make an effort to repair the relationship with the customer, but Sutter as a corporation clearly does not care for their patients, just for taking as much money as they can from working Americans. There are some good doctors and employees here who are doing their best, and I'm sure they're not getting paid enough to put up with this. I won't be funding their CEO and upper management's greedy behavior with my business again. read more

Christine Smith NP provided me with such great care. She was very personable and caring. She seemed very compassionate, approachable and nurturing in my time of need. I totally had faith in her medical judgment. Thanks to her my death rattle is nearly gone. The whole staff went above and beyond for me which I appreciated very much since I felt like I could fall over and die at any minute. The LVN Dan was very hospitable and was the perfect balance of personable and professional. He listened to my concerns and asked all the right questions.The X-ray tech was so caring and patient with me. She even adjusted the exam room table and pillow for me to lay down on which she did not have to do. MA Alicia also came in and rechecked my vitals which showed me they had great team work and wouldn't let anything fall through the cracks. I was very impressed and felt like I was in very capable hands. Just want to let the urgent care team and everyone know how grateful I am for their care today. My wife and I have been going here as we prep for the arrival of our son. It's been a fine experience. The doctors are nice and knowledgeable. We've had some outrageous wait times, and some other experiences when we showed up at out appointment time, and were told our appointment was actually 15, 30, 45 minutes later. Anybody who knows me, knows how absolutely anal I am about punctuality, and how I would NEVER log an incorrect time in my calendar. The waiting areas aren't that nice or clean, but the exam areas are very clean. read more

Total waste of time and money. I came in because I had been having problems with my anemia and felt very poor. I told the doctor this and all of the symptoms I'd experienced. He proceed to lecture me that I'm dizzy because I was dehydrated. He did not address any of the other things I was experiencing and explained the concept of water to me in a very condescending tone. I have been dehydrated before and had anemic problems before yet he did not believe that I know my own body! He sent me off with the order to drink water instead of even considering what I was telling him. Next time I'd rather wait weeks for a visit with my pcp than come here again read more

....I wish the story ended with the 2.5hr wait. So the nurse comes in and immediately drills me through my entire prescription history on every med I've ever been prescribed. Ok for context I'm wheezing I haven't had a good nights sleep in a week, I've been overdosing on my albuterol inhaler just so I can breathe sleep etc.. But I've been to this location before; for asthma, and they did the exact same questioning thing so I guess it's their thing. Ok the doctor comes in listens to my lungs prescribes some medicine and invites me to leave. I am wheezing; i needed help, relief! As crazy as it is to say (I can't breathe) I HAD TO ASK THEM TO GIVE ME A BREATHING TREATMENT SO I COULD WALK OUT OF THERE BREATHING NORMALLY!!?? They gave me one I was still wheezing but I left. What else was there to do. I've had asthma since 1989 it has sent me to the emergency rooms on numerous occasions. However this is Thee first time a facility doctor/staff didn't put me on a breathing treatment...smh Yes I'm Black and very tall and I don't think they were being...it's a tough job during extremely tough times I get it... I went to The Sutter Urgent Care due to a cut that had become swollen and inflamed. Registration was quick and easy and I was seen within 5 minutes ( this was a Saturday) Clinic was clean and all of the practitioners were pleasant and helpful. I saw the Dr right away and he was attentive and treated me for a possible cellulitis with care instructions and an anti biotic. Recommended after care appt for the following Monday. read more
