Both the grits and the biscuits were out of this world incredible. Our server was very familiar with the menu, super sweet, and prompt. There's a lovely view of Main Street from both the patio and the main interior dining room. I'll definitely be coming back

The chicken fried steak is the best. Not greasy. Huge! The gravy is on point. We tried the cream cheese corn and I'd have to say that I thought the green beans are better. The onion rings are incredible! The mashed potatoes are very good. The service is good. The only issue we had was that we had ordered a side order of onion rings. When a huge basket came out, I asked if this was the side order and the waitress quickly commented that she had put it in as a side order but that they sent a whole order. She said she would adjust it but when she brought the check she said that she took off 10%. Quickly doing the math, the basket we were charged for was $11 while the side order is $5. 10% didn't come close and we barely made a dent in the basket of delicious rings. The live music was nice but they might need to tell the entertainer that it isn't meant to be a show, just background. He doesn't need to be the center of everyone's meal. Local Flavor is a must try! You won't be disappointed.

Well, as you can see, I am giving Conifer a 5-star review. So, it obviously wasn't an issue. In fact, to the contrary: If we would've canceled our reservation, we would've missed out on a fantastic meal and an absolutely lovely experience! The atmosphere is open and modern, but it also manages to feel warm, cozy and subdued. The chairs at the tables are super comfortable, and it's easy to carry on a quiet conversation throughout the meal. The cocktail selection is high-end and fabulous. We sat at the bar to wait for our table to be ready, and that is a well-run show. We both loved our drinks. Our server was excellent: informed, accessible and spent just the right amount of time with us at every turn. We had the cheddar biscuits and this flavored butter situation, the likes of which I've never experienced (and believe me, I've had a lot of butter in my time!). My husband said a couple days later, that he's still convinced there was accidentally gluten in those biscuits. There was NOT -- he just can't account for why they were so good. We both got fantastic entrees, and here is my only critique of the evening. Our roasted/grilled meats were absolutely DELISH, and they both came with sauce and nuts. Way, way too many nuts! For budgetary purposes alone, I'd think the chef wouldn't want to serve that many pine nuts to someone (but the pine nut chili crisp was unique and amazing). I shoved about half the nuts to the side and still had plenty. My husband's dish had the same issue, but with almonds. We figured between our plates, we had about $20 worth of nuts alone, lol. For dessert, we got the ice creams, and holy goodness! They stopped us in our tracks, they were so good. Creamy as all get-out and lusciously flavored. So, if you have a gluten intolerance or allergy, go to Conifer. If you can eat anything in the world, also go to Conifer!

These things would have been easy to overlook if the food had been special, it was anything but, I would rate it as fair, to good, which was an extreme let down, on top of that we paid premium pricing on our meals. I would not recommend this restaurant to friends or family, and we will never go back. In a town that has such a vibrant, and competitive restaurant culture, I do not see how they can stay in business.

Our waiter, Nick, was friendly, attentive, and made some excellent suggestions. We started with beignets for the table. I don't like dense beignets, and these had a wonderful texture, served with amazing strawberry sauce and homemade frosting. Then the Strawberry Short Biscuit arrived, and it stole the show! That savory biscuit with the strawberry sauce and frosting? Wow. Just wow! I loved my Fish & Chips. The fish was flaky, the batter was crisp and flavorful, and the tartar sauce was perfect. The Tomato Basil & Goat Cheese soup was another favorite. The goat cheese on top added the perfect savory touch. My daughter enjoyed the Spicy Chicken and Waffles, with well-seasoned chicken that wasn't too spicy and a potato waffle that was crunchy outside and soft in the middle. My son-in-law enjoyed his Le Parisien Burger and the extra-crisp fries. My husband especially appreciated the generous amount of high-quality sausage in his omelet, flavorful without being too salty. We weren't even hungry when we ordered the Chocolate Mousse Cake just to taste it, but I'm so glad we did! It comes from a bakery owned by the same restaurant group and was one of the moistest cakes I've ever had, with chocolate mousse-based frosting. A wonderful lunch from beginning to end. Come hungry, and even if you think you're full, get a few forks and share the cake!
