Sushi dates are my youngest son and I's thing. So we split time returning to favorites and also trying new places. This was our second time here and still as "mid" as the first time, according to my teenager... and that's more to do with the environment than the food. First off, my son loves watching them make the sushi because he tries to make it at home since it's his favorite food. As soon as we walked in, he was thrilled because we had the place to ourselves and we headed toward that area where there was a man visibly dressed in his chef garb... only to be blocked by the one female employee who directed us toward a side table in between low divider screens. I smiled and nicely asked if we could sit at the open chairs at the sushi making area or a table closer in order to watch and she said "no." I asked why and she said something in broken English I didn't fully catch. I believe it was because they had some to-go orders sitting on that counter, but there were atleast some closer tables we could have set at. After that, the experience just felt a bit cold. We ordered four different sushi rolls to start and waited for only three to come out. Had to ask where the fourth was and she acted like I hadn't originally ordered four. The special roll we tried was called a campfire roll and was supposed to come with marshmallows (plural) but came out with one. Then the fire kept burning. We didn't receive instructions or anything so we waited for it to burn out, which took a lot longer than the volcano roll experiences we've had in the past. The sushi was really, really good to be fair... but this is twice we just haven't felt particularly welcomed or gotten warm fuzzies from eating here. And it's too expensive here to not have great service. I don't consider myself overly picky but I am conscious of where I spend my dollars nowadays, so I would tend to return to one of our other sushi spots that atleast makes you feel welcome. Or any of the others that are much cheaper than this one. We drank water and had the four rolls and one side of fried rice and it was about $75. read more

It's very possible I came here on an off night because I've read many positive reviews. I LOVE sushi and am always excited to check out sushi places in the area, but the side salad was shockingly sweet and the sushi did not taste fresh. The spicy mayo that was on one of my rolls was also very sweet. I think I would maybe give 3 stars if the prices were lower, but we definitely paid premium prices for very low grade sushi. read more

By far the best, most friendly and welcoming Sushi restaurant north of 465 and east of US 31! I've never had a bad roll, we've had just "good" and usually "great" but never bad or designer type rolls. The family is very kind and friendly. We try to order from here weekly, but usually ends up monthly. For our young kids we order their chicken fried rice, it's absolutely the best CFR I've ever tasted. Just great. Popped in here on a whim and I'm so glad I did. While a bit expensive, the prices were fairly standard for sushi. I must say that the food was absolutely amazing! Specialty roll is supposed to come with miso, but if you take it to go it's $3.50. I pointed out that I wanted to eat in, didn't matter. She still wanted me to pay the $3.50. We tried this place right after we moved to noblesville several years ago, literally desperate to find good Asian food/sushi (my wife is Korean). Thankfully, we hit gold! We've become such fans that we even befriended the family that owns the place. So rather than writing a biased review, I'll just let that speak for itself. Sushi is the specialty at Sushiyama, so don't go solely for the kitchen food. It isn't too bad, but unless you go on Friday or Saturday (when they have an extra helping hand), it will detract from the service speed a little. The sushi is unique in three ways, in my opinion... it is WAY fresh... the nigiri is sliced thick and hearty, and the chef has his own sauces that are definitely more flavorful (and some items spicy) than typical sushi places in the area. I think that can be attributed to the owners' Korean origins. If you want some sushi that's flavorful and skillfully made, give this place a shot. But as stated in other reviews... this is a family-run small business, so if you come during the week at crunch times, you may need to be a little patient with the service. read more

I've tried majority of their rolls and sushi, and couple of their best rolls include: volcano roll(salmon heaven on your tongue, my ultimate fav), fire roll(if you like a small fire show at your table and the toasty aroma, this is your roll), ladybug roll(the scallion makes this roll so yummy), vampire roll(if you are a texture person and loves crunchy texture, this one is yours). Disappointing for the price. Entree, sushi combo (7 nigiri + Cali roll) and a 6 pc spider roll was over $50! Prices weren't consistent on website links (said spider roll was $6.50 and we were likely charged $15). They also quoted us 30 minutes for the food and there were literally no customers in the restaurant when we picked up. This is a good little place for a quick sushi experience. The fish isn't as thick as I'm used to, and you could tell it was frozen at some point, but the rolls made up for that due to their wonderful toppings and sauces. I love this place! It's my favorite reasonably priced sushi I've found in Indiana. They also have great egg rolls and awesome ginger dressing on the side salads. On our first visit, for sushi we tried the Hana roll and the Sushiyama Specialty roll, and on our second visit we got the Hana roll again (we love avocado!) and I believe it was called the Volcano roll (it had broiled fresh fish on top of the roll and was covered in spicy mayo). I had no idea that this restaurant existed, until my mom heard from friends of her's who drive all they way from Geist to eat here. Standing outside of Sushiyama, the completely unimpressive exterior had me giving my mom a look soaked with second doubts. BUT I promise you that opening the door puts you in a whole new world. The restaurant's interior is superbly decorated with an authentic Sushi Bar in the back if you choose. Owned and operated by a Japanese family, the dishes are a mix of traditional staples and western remixes. The Sushi is phenomenal. I promise. Skeptic I was, but no longer. I try to get into Sushiyama at least every other week and love supporting the family run business. The restaurant keeps a steady stream of takeout orders going but I highly recommend surprising yourself and eating in once! Any specialty roll comes with the customary miso soup and salad if you do choose to stay in. I'll close it with just repeating what I've said. Every sushi place can be expensive especially if you order speciality rolls. I think this place was cost me about as much as any other sushi restaurant. Went here tonight to try. Very slow not busy at all but it's also a Wednesday night. Ordered two rolls a spicy California and a fire shrimp roll. California roll was good tasted fresh. The fire roll .... great idea horrible execution. It was brought out in foil then the waiter set it on fire.... cool yes but he walked away from the table as the sushi was on fire. I was disappointed because when it was opened it was burnt like charred so the whole roll was burnt Panko. Salad was all dressing but good flavor. Ordered a hibachi chicken... pretty sure I heard the microwave turn on when that order was placed. Small mom/pop place in a strip mall in Noblesville. Had lunch there today. My party and only on other customer were there at 1p. Ordered the California roll lunch special for $7.99. It includes a California roll, a fried wonton, 1/2 an egg roll, house salad and miso soup. I don't care for miso so I can't comment on that. I enjoyed the egg roll, my wife did not. She liked the house salad, but I didn't care for the dressing. Normally I love ginger dressing. As for the sushi. Had a California roll which was "okay". Alia the dynamite and spicy tuna. Not blown away by any of them. I guess if I was in the area and got hit with a sushi craving I may go again. I'd probably choose to drive a bit farther and get good sushi and good service. One caveat, if you order take out lunch special, you will not receive the soup, salad or egg roll, with the lunch special. Same price, but no sides. The food was fresh. Although I wasn't as enamored with the ambiance as my wife was (I thought it was too dark, and the big screen TV was distracting), the sushi and service were excellent. Moderately priced, neither cheap nor expensive, the sushi was near the top of what I've had in the Indianapolis area. For about $50, two of us stuffed ourselves with sushi and each had a beer.
