After eating Texas BBQ for 3 days straight... all meats... we needed some fish. Hard to find a sushi spot in downtown but we saw this on Yelp. It had pretty good reviews and the sushi looked good. We came and it wasn't too pack, but a good amount of people. They seated us in the back and I believe the owner took our orders. We got udon for my son, it came with some tempura. We got hamachi kama. I got the chirashi bowl. My husband got a roll and then got the salmon lover (5 nigiri pieces and salmon roll). I enjoyed my chirashi, which came with 12 pieces of chefs choice. Pretty good options in the bowl. Even came with real crab. It was a nice change from pure Texas meats. My husband liked his salmon lover, the nigiris were huge. He also got another roll and he said it was just ok, forgot which roll it was. But he liked the salmon lover better. They also have a tuna lover. I like the variety. Got takeout dinner here, and appreciated the attentive service when I came in - they packaged my hot tea separate with the tea leaves so I could steep it myself - I've never seen this before at a restaurant! It was more like ramen swimming in stir fry sauce - I'm not sure it ever touched the frying pan. Service was not great either. By far the best sushi and fried rice I've ever experienced in the metroplex. The nigiri is expertly sliced, and the freshness of the fish is exceptional. I enjoyed my nigiri with a Kirin Ichiban beer, and I discovered flavors in the fish that I had never noticed before. I wanted a Mai Tai, but i the nice guy assisting house informed me that they did not have all of their ingredients which was disappointing. My friend suggested I order a Tokyo Tea, and it was honestly very delicious. I was hungry, but not that hungry so I orders as California roll and a spicy tuna roll. Honestly after finishing my meal, I could have ordered more food because I did actually indeed feel incomplete and not full after my meal. It's definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. Amid the looming concrete buildings of downtown, it's easy to miss this restaurant, which is at the bottom level of a parking structure. Inside, it feels pretty warm and homey. I could tell that there were some regulars here. One large extended family of regulars was occupying both sides of the sushi bar (it's a square in the middle, but the seating is only on two adjoining sides). It was very noisy! I could hear basically everything they were saying, and it kind of ruined the vibe. But it's not the restaurant's fault, and I didn't expect them to try to quiet them down or anything. The family shouldn't have been shouting (kids can't help it, but adults can). I sat at the bar, being on a solo trip, and they were very attentive and friendly! I got a mai tai to drink, and it was deliciously fruity, as those often are. My sushi rolls were delicious - the spicy tuna featured on one tasted fresh. Their menu isn't super extensive, but there are a lot of options all the same, and restaurants with enormous menus often are more uneven in execution (and might have more ingredients prepped that are past prime time as menu variety expands). read more

Saw this article about a boy who shared a tik toc video about his grandparents restaurant so we decided to give it a try. I LOVE this place! My fiancé and I started with some Goyza. I came here today and ordered a sushi roll, vegetable rolls, and shrimp shumai. I don't eat pork, so I asked the waiter to please check if the shrimp shumai contained any (the menu just said shrimp). He said he thought it was just shrimp but he would check with a chef. Later our order came to the table and included the shrimp shumai. I assumed he had checked and that's why he put the order in. I bit into one and guess what, pork was in it. I don't eat pork due to religious reasons and it honestly disgusts me that this establishment failed to tell me. If you weren't sure, you should've directly said that, not put the order in. I asked him directly what was in it after I paid and he gave me a dodgey answer about "needing to check with the vendor". If you need to check with the vendor and aren't sure, it is this restaurant's responsibility to convey that to the customer, not to put the order in so they can make $6 more. I want to support companies that value integrity and honesty and that's why I cannot support this business. read more
