First off, I like sushi, but I don't love sushi. After reading the first review, I was reluctant to try Sushirrito at Local Kitchens @ Cupertino. But there's a rule in life.....you won't know if you like something, unless you try it. So, on a Tuesday night, my job finished up in Sunnyvale. I was 4 miles from Local Kitchens @ Cupertino, which is currently offering Sushirrito as a menu choice. Using the Local Kitchens App, I placed a pre-order for a Sumo Crunch and an order of Tempura Shrimp. Scheduled pickup time: 930pm. My order was ready at 940pm. The staff member made sure I knew both items were in 1 bag. How was the food? Sumo Crunch Burrito, Grade(3/5): Looks good, lots of ingredients, packaged well, but lacks flavor. Makes you wonder why. The Sumo Crunch, as the menu says...."Shrimp Tempura, Surimi Crab, Cucumbers, Red Tempura Flakes, Sriracha Aioli." Yes, it was all there. Lots of crab filling. Amazing how it all stays together. I was expecting it to come apart as a ate it. I guess I was expecting a little more heat. Is there some sort of sauce that goes with this? I have never been to an actual Sushirrito location, so I don't know how they serve it. Would I order it again? No thank you. Price $14. Crispy Shrimp Tempura, with Sriracha Aioli, Grade (5/5): OMG! Praise the Gods of Fried Foods! We have an attempt at fried food perfection. The Crispy Shrimp Tempura saved this food experience. I ate them fresh from the kitchen. Lightly crisp at the first bite, crunchy as you chew, and enjoy the shrimp flavor. The dipping sauce just makes it better. Yes these are hellya good, but you have to eat them fresh. Fried foods have a limited holding time. Best way? Pick them up yourself, and eat them right away. Local Kitchens @ Cupertino is right near Hwy 85 x Stevens Creek Blvd. Plenty of parking. Six per order, price: $9.00. Overall, a 4-star experience. I might try something else, but I'll pass on those sushi burritos. But OMG, those crispy Shrimp Tempura! I gotta get some! I have been to all 5 Local Kitchens locations. Local Kitchens @ Cupertino has limited indoor/outdoor dining areas, a restroom, multiple ordering kiosks, and front counter service. This is NOT a ghost kitchen.

    Grossed out

I opened up my food in the car & I noticed there was a hair in the hand roll I got. It was not just on the side it was fully into the roll!! As I tried to pull it out it just kept going , I ended up just throwing it away out because of how grossed out I was.

I want to start off with, I really enjoy sushi burritos! I wouldn't compare it with normal sushi so don't expect it to be equivalent. I have been actively looking for a sushi burrito place so when I saw that Local Kitchens had sushi burritos AND burgers (for my partner), I had to give it a try! Online ordering was easy and there is an estimate for 25-30 mins. It actually took closer to 10-15 minutes. I took a picture of the sushiburrito. I live relatively close to the store so I had take out. There are alot of interesting preset choices for the sushi burrito. I ordered the Latin Ninja that comes with green leaf lettuce, plantain chips, rice crisps, guacamole, and I think pumpkin seeds. Unfortunately I felt that the rice was a little thick or maybe it was stiff? The seaweed was soggier than other places I have tried and unfortunately the plantain chips/rice puffs were also soggy because of the salmon. I'm not sure if the salmon was bad because of my timing (7:45pm on a weekday), but it felt more like smoked salmon than poke salmon because the salmon was more pink than the deep orange of raw salmon. Maybe the rice was too hot and cooked the salmon? Overall it was a bit different than what I had been expecting. I gave 4 stars because I figure they're relatively new and still working out the ratios! I'd love to come back once they have things figured out a bit more. EDIT: I did take off a star because I threw up soon after my meal ),:

I have been wanting to try their Sushirrito for some time now. Today i decided to order them on door dash, I was not disappointed! I ordered the "Sumo Crunch" it was delicious! Great size and the flavor was astounding! I do wish that they added some sauces on the side to add a bit more flavor! Would definitely order again!

Definitely not a standout dish, but the rest of the meal was delectable. Sometimes, you don't need vegetables during dinner. Had to order the hamachi carpaccio, unagi meshi, and green tea creme brulee as per usual, but the Nikomi hamburg was a pleasant surprise! The flavor profile is deeply reminiscent of a HK pork chop baked rice if juicy pork meatballs were used. The service is always friendly here and our food came out quickly! My only minor gripe was the pacing as we had 3 dishes on our small square table at one point in the meal. I understand though, since they clearly had a busy night ahead as the restaurant filled up quickly after 7:30 PM. Ambience is kind of loud due to the chatter and closely spaced tables. They really try to maximize the seating here. Make sure you wear socks in case you end up being seated in the carpet area.

My aunt asked if we could sit at a regular table instead, and the hostess asked whether we had any medical reason. I felt offended at that moment, and I also believe it's inappropriate and potentially unlawful to ask that kind of question. On top of that, while we were still eating, they brought us the bill halfway through the meal. Even though we understand there is a 90-minute dining limit, the whole experience made us feel like they were trying to rush us out. This is definitely not a place we would come back to or recommend to friends.

The Chirashi bowl overall was good, but it felt that they just put some sashimi next to a pile of rice and called it a day. The rice wasn't really well seasoned, and so it didn't feel like a cohesive dish. That same feeling persisted with the whole squid, and the sushi roll that we ordered. If you come in expecting to have a some fresh fish and be full after, then this is a good place. But it just lacks that bit of attention to detail to have me wanting to come back all the time.

First, I made a reservation on yelp but forgot to mention it to my friends. I was the second to arrive and my friend was already seated so I joined her. Later the server came by asking if we had a reservation which I said I did, then she complained in Chinese to my friend "I asked you earlier and you had said No. I had set up the table for it already". I found it pretty rude since the restaurant was half empty and just because she had the utensils and water out, shouldn't be a big deal. My second issue is that I ordered explicitly with "no wasabi and no green onions". Then, of course my sushi roll came with full of green onions on top. I said "I asked for no green onions" and the server said "but this is already made", expecting me to just accept it as is. My friends all heard me clearly ask when I ordered too. I said firmly that I would like it remade, which then they brought it back and I saw the original server who took the order glare at me and gestured towards me. This was ridiculous treatment. The food was not good either. I tried the Salmon Lover Roll ($17) and Sake Nigiri ($8). The salmon nigiri was a joke because as you can see from the photo it was tearing and falling apart. It was also cut so thick which just felt very unrefined. Thicker fish is good to a degree but it was too extreme and made me think it was due to lack of skill from the sushi chef. The salmon roll was not great either because the salmon skin in the middle was coated so much I just tasted the coating and not the fish anymore.

Strange how they sell a variety of chili oils as it's a Japanese establishment. Food came out crazily fast. Plates and bowls for the raw items were cold. Perhaps prepared beforehand? SERVICE: only one lady was working the entire restaurant; went during peak hours and there were only 3 tables including us... then a person showed up at 12:51pm (they close at 1pm) and she let her in! You have to call her over...she doesn't just show up so I don't think this is called attentive? But very friendly and very sweet. Table, plates, cups, and utensils were moderately clean. AMBIENCE: old school Japanese decor with bamboo separations. Casual dining. Tough and rough hours to catch them since they're so short. Located in a small plaza with a private parking lot; did not have to wait for a spot. I'm excited to try their other items. Strange location. Strange hours. Strange wasabi.

We ordered the Chicken Karaage, Gyoza, Hakata Tonkatsu and the Chicken Paitan. We wanted to order the Chicken Paitan DX but we were told that their grill was not working so they could not grill the chicken thigh that came with the DX order. The soups came in bowls that were irrgular shaped and colorful. Everything tasted good. The chicken Karaage was generously portioned and tasted great. My son devoured them in no time. The Hakata Tonkatsu had a very rich, well developed broth that was so delicious. Might have been a little too rich for me as I was not able to finish the meal. The chicken Paitan was also delicious but the broth was a lighter broth. Our gyoza order did not come until much later in the meal. We had to remind our waiter that we did not get our order. This dish, gyoza, was disappointing. It did not look like it was homemade - looked more store bought. We didn't care for the taste with the dipping sauce that came with it. Not sure if this was because we had the heavier broth first. It just fell flat after the robust and rich hakata tonkatsu meal I had. Service was friendly. The waiter and manager(?), were apologetic that the gyoza order was delayed (or forgotten?). They also apologized for their grill not working that day. I would definitely come back here to try the other items on their menu.

The tenderness of the pork is really nice too, especially paired with the onsen egg and rice. My only gripe is the service and cleanliness is really lacking and disappointing. The staff are NOT attentive, no one asks how your meal is, and just asking for a refill of water takes what seems like forever. When they still had the tablets at the table, I remember ringing for a waiter/waitress to bring my mother a takeout container and I could hear the bell ringing in the kitchen. It was very quickly shut off, a sign that maybe someone would come shortly, but nope. I waited for 5-7 minutes and rang a second time and AGAIN they quickly turned it off with no one coming. I was tempted to grab the to-go box myself, but didn't want to risk being told not to do that and just wait for an employee... Finally, after what felt like at least 10-12 minutes, someone gave us a box! As for the cleanliness, when I was served my meal once, there was old food still stuck to my tray. While it was only the tray the dishes were served on, it made me question how clean the other dinnerware was. So, while I love the Miso Katsu, the past few experiences do not make this dish worth revisiting Yayoi. Honestly, the service has been so sub-par that I really don't know why I bothered coming back. Every time I go, I wonder how disappointing the service is going to be. So, try it if you must, but be proactive in making sure your server is attentive!
