Visited with my family and they were able to accommodate a table of 7 with a high chair. The restaurant is medium to large, and there's ample lighting but some tables aren't evenly lit. The ambiance is a little stale, but this place is great for a casual meal. Very large menu too, which took a long time to read through. The sushi was decent, although I wouldn't recommend the small rolls as they're a bit too plain. I ordered the sashimi salad for a lighter, healthy option and I would absolutely get it again. Enjoying dinner with another couple at Sushi Yama in the Publix Shopping Center at the corner of Woolbright and Military Ave. There are 60 locations of this sushi chain that started in 1996. There is a 2nd in Boynton Beach with more nearby in Wellington, Delray, Green Acres, Boca, Palm Beach Gardens, WPB ... We parked in the free lot in front of the restaurant. The restaurant offers a massive fusion menu, ranging from traditional sushi to sizzling entrees, kids meals, lunch specials, bento boxes, happy hours ... The menu read like a book. There were booths, tables & outside dining under large umbrellas facing the parking lot. The restaurant was attractive. Our booth was large and quiet. We shared a sushi boat that was beautiful, fresh and delicious. There was more than enough food for the both of us, coming with side salads. Our waiter pointed out the wahoo ceviche, salmon, tuna, rolls... our friends enjoyed their noodle dishes that were plated beautifully with an edible flower. Unfortunately, no one came back to check on us or refill our water glasses. We weren't rushed, but we did have to ask for our check. The food was okay, but the customer service left a disappointing impression. I completely understand and respect the policy of checking IDs, and I take full responsibility for forgetting mine. When I realized I didn't have it, I apologized and told our bartender to keep the drink since I knew she couldn't legally serve me. What bothered me was that our bartender then began loudly talking about the situation with another guest at the otherwise empty bar while we were still sitting there, making comments that we could clearly hear. It made the rest of our meal uncomfortable and felt unnecessary. I've worked service industry for over 10 years and know when it's appropriate to "vent" about guests, and when it should be saved for back of house. read more

1st time here with friends on Sat for lunch. We ordered from great lunch menu which included a selection of bento boxes and pokie bowls and off full menu. The decor was spacious and modern with comfortable booths and tables. Suitable for date night or girls nite out. Also tables outside . Easy parking provided. Unfortunately our waiter Moo was rude and slow; when he asked if we wanted drinks he tried to rush us and then told us that he was very busy and he couldn't wait all day ; then he delivered all items Except the hand rolls and when he never came back and we had finished all the other items we had to go look for him and they hadn't even made the hand rolls yet. Someone else finally delivered them and no apology was offered. Room only had 3 tables occupied so no excuses for forgetting us because they weren't even busy. My 3rd day in Boca Fl and my family took me to another location for lunch at Sushi Yama, and this place has the same cute ambiance. The foods is still so good along with the server. This time I try the duck noodle soup, and my family had hamachi kama, grill squid and some other sushi and sashimi. I really love this duck noodle soup. I wish I can bring that noodle duck soup back to CA. But no liquid can bring to the airport. The next time when I come and visit again, that will be my order. We had a wonderful lunch here. The restaurant is relatively new and located on the corner of the strip. There is easy parking in the large lot right out front. Inside, the restaurant is spacious and clean. It's much larger inside than we expected. Their menu is extensive. They had a nice group of lunch specials. We both wound up ordering two different bento box lunches. Each box comes with a choice of soup or salad to start. We both opted for their salad with a ginger dressing (they have other dressings, too). My husband got their lunch special Bento #3. This box was a sushi/sashimi combo with a choice of a naruto roll or sunomono, 4 pieces of a California roll, and 3 pieces of sushi (chef choice). He selected the sunomono. The box was as lovely to look at as its contents were to eat. We both remarked that there was a lot of food in the box (compared to a skimpy one he'd had recently at another restaurant for the same price). The sunomono had octopus in it along with other seafood; the sashimi was tuna and salmon; the sushi had salmon and tuna and escolar. He was quite happy -- and full. I chose their Bento lunch #9. For this box, you could choose either sauteed or teriyaki chicken or beef. I had the beef teriyaki which was sliced tender steak pieces topped with teriyaki sauce. A cold piece of broccoli came with it. Another small box had a cold marinated bean sprout salad that was a good palate cleanser. There was also a mound of white rice. Another compartment had shrimp tempura -- two long pieces of lightly breaded shrimp and a large slice of tempura'd sweet potato. There was a dipping sauce for the tempura, as well. Both boxes contained a wedge of orange -- for "dessert". We will definitely come back here again. We had good service, and the food was very good. And the prices seem quite reasonable also. Clean and busy establishment. They were short-staffed the night we stopped in. So service was friendly, but slow. The menu has Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese items. We thought all the food was flavorful and fresh. They don't use real crab, which is clearly stated on the menu, nonetheless that made the kanisu roll disappointing. I can't tell you how happy I am that Sushi Yama is just down the street from me now! I use to love going to the one in Boca years ago but the drive started to become too much. I tried the Boynton one the other night and they did not disappoint. Same food quality I know from Boca and also great service. I was a table of 4. The server took our drink and food order promptly and answered any questions we may have had. The staff also had really great jokes! For example, we ordered a "happy pancake" and afterwards they would joke and ask if you are you happy now? We tried a variety of dishes including a fish entree - this was huge! We ordered nigiri pieces as well as a hand roll. The nigiri pieces were fairly large in size. I ordered 2 ikura's and as soon as I saw the size of them, I thought to myself, I should've ordered 1. The uni here was ok. Didn't seem too fresh. We also tried a sushi roll. But my favorite had to be the steak tartare. Loved the flavor over sushi rice. As a sweet treat, a lot of these items came with a slice of an orange peel. A nice sweet kick with my dinner. read more

The reviews were mostly good and having passed by several times, I was on my home and was getting hungry, so I thought this would be a good choice. Unfortunately it wasn't so good. I decided on the vegetable stir fry. I chose beef as my protein. The whole thing was overcooked, very little flavor, beef was tough. There was no soy sauce packets but luckily I was taking it home and I had some there. It was prepared and ready very quickly which I appreciated. It included either salad or a bowl of miso soup. I chose the soup, but nothing special. Rice was included and at least that was filling, the main dish did not make me Antão finish it. Since maybe this b place might be more know for sushi, I'll give it another try for that. I hope they do better. read more

I visited the Boca location and this was my first time at their new Boynton location. This location is located inside a newer shopping plaza. Nice ambiance inside with ample outdoor seating. I visited during lunch time so it wasn't busy inside the restaurant. I ordered their Sushi Mori B which includes a Florida roll, tuna roll, and 6 pieces of sushi in a little boat. We have been coming to this restaurant for over two years. Frequent customer every few weeks. Management is great. The waiter from Thiland is awesome. Ask for him every time. The problem is the host. Mo is his name. Very combative, argumentative and nasty way to start walking into a great place. We waited a few minutes for a table and he walked by and said that we said we're gonna go outside and wait which we did not, nevertheless, he got combative and very argumentative and pointed in my face. Other people that heard what was going on were appalled we were going to leave, but it's a great place to eat. Been here several times. It is Asian Fusion which, in this instance, means Thai and Japanese. I have had both cuisines here and it didn't disappoint; especially the Thai. Sushi and sashimi dishes were generous and they tasted fine. I did, however, not like having a sashimi dish served over ice. Kinda grossed me out to have wet fish and I dislike receiving it that way. The service is fairly prompt, especially when busy. Wait staff with whom I've interacted were pleasant. Ambience is comfy with booths and tables and a nice sushi bar. I ordered beef fried rice today and it's just loaded with beef and vegetables. It is hard to find beef fried rice and it was so good. My family and I had a great experience here, the ambiance is great (the music is quiet enough to talk to everyone around you, around 9 they do play the music louder but it's jazz(ish) and wonderful. They do have the fancy rolls, but they load them with too much sauce (eel sauce, spicy mayo, etc.). Some like their sushi cut into smaller pieces, but I prefer the normal cut as the skinny pieces tend to fall apart. When ordering sushi/sashimi, the fish has minimal flavor. It's priced as any other SoFla sushi restaurant, but they only get away with it because they make it look fancy. The restaurant has a good atmosphere, but the service could use improvement. When there were only 3 tables being served, my girlfriend and I were waiting for 5 minutes to be seated. I would like to start off by saying that I have been coming here for years. I live about five minutes from this place on Boynton and Jog. I've never had a problem here and have always been treated well and have always treated the staff well and greeted the sushi chefs. I'm really upset. I came in last Saturday at around 5:45 pm and left at about 7:15 pm. I don't know our servers name but she had blonde hair. At first, she appeared happy to serve my friend from out of town and myself. I asked her for recommendations for dry sake and she told me the $30 bottle was the best so we ordered it. I told her we would be ordering appetizers and to please leave a menu. You see, I came in to enjoy the time away from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season and have a relaxing time in a familiar place with great food. The music that the musician plays is calm and inviting and the menu is also diverse and delicious. This used to be a home away from home for me. As we ate through our first round of appetizers and drank our sake, I noticed the server did not seem as kind as she did at the start. She no longer greeted us when she approached our table and avoided eye contact. I thought maybe I was wrong about how I saw her. Then, we go to order our next round of appetizers, and before she takes our order she looks at the front door to see if more customers are coming in and without any kindness and without looking at us takes our order and walks away. She brings back the food, no words, no kindness, no eye contact and leaves it at the table. The last thing we order is some food to-go. We aren't feeling good here anymore. After I order the food, the server tells me to give her our menu, as if to say, "you're done eating. " I pick it up and ask her why she wants the menu back, and she rips it out of my hand, doesn't answer me and walks away. I left her a $50 tip on $100. I've worked in the service industry and I know what it means to turn tables. I am sorry she felt like we were taking money from her but that is not an excuse for her unacceptable behavior. I left my home to dine at Sushi Yama so I can be treated with courtesy and respect. I never thought Sushi Yama, a place I have been to many times and brought many people to, would treat me this way. I don't know if I can come back after this kind of experience but the way I was treated ruined my evening. read more
