We started with the sushi nachos, and they were incredible--crispy, fresh, and piled high with flavorful toppings. Such a fun and delicious twist that set the tone for the night. The toro sashimi was rich, buttery, and literally melted in your mouth. The wahoo sashimi was clean, fresh, and beautifully sliced. We have been going here every 2 weeks since we discovered it. The first time we went they had a solo singer with a wonderful soft voice. The food was excellent the service was quick. The servers are professional but they were all business no smile by anyone. What surprised me was how few people they were even on a Saturday. We have gone several times since and the food is consistently good. Service consistently quick, servers consistently professional and still not busy. A non friendly ( as I said they did nothing wrong they just dont smile introduce themselves. I wont remove any stars for that).I have not tried the other Sushi Yama for comparison which is much busier so there may be a reason why it is not busy.Maybe I should but better yet, maybe they should. read more

I tried this place before trying the other location. I was blown away on how beautiful the place was. I loved the feeling of fine dining it had. The food was so delicious. I REALLY REALLY. recommend the salmon belly with special sauce. (I think it's chili oil) but it is so delicious we had to order it again. I also ordered the sushi burrito and it was BOMB the sauces they provide were delicious. The service was amazing I had a pleasant experience with our server. Really recommend coming before 5 since after 5 there is A LOT of tables that come in. Definitely will come here again if I visit Florida. read more

Every time I have come here I have to get something different, there is no shortage of good food. Dishonest and Fraudulent--Check Your Receipts! I have been to Sushi Yama in the past (over five years ago) and was disappointed by the low-quality sushi. However, after hearing that the quality had improved, I gave them another chance. To my surprise, the food was better on my recent visits, but my latest experience completely ruined any reason to return. On my most recent visit, the service was abysmal. Our waitress (Asian woman with a round face who works there almost daily) ignored us for nearly 45 minutes without bringing our drinks, never checked in to see if we were satisfied, and left us sitting in the heat with no refills. Our plates were stacked on the table for so long that bugs started attacking us, and we had to wait an excessive amount of time for sauces that should have come with the meal--by the time they arrived, our food had already gone cold. Despite this, I still left a tip, albeit a modest one, as tipping is based on service quality. I wrote $5.53 on my receipt--a direct reflection of the poor service received. However, upon reviewing my bank statement, I was shocked to find that I had been charged $100 instead of $90. I immediately called the restaurant, and the person who answered took my information, saying the owner would call me back. That never happened. So, I went in person to speak with the owner. After explaining the situation, the owner claimed it was probably a "mistake" and would look into it. The next day, I received a photo of my receipt, which had been CLEARLY FORGED--the waitress had added a "1" in front of my $5.53 tip, turning it into $15.53 and inflating the total to $100. When I confronted the restaurant about this blatant fraud, the manager only offered to refund the extra tip portion in cash--which I declined. I demanded that the full $100 be refunded, or I would dispute the charge with my bank. At this point, the manager became condescending and dismissive, arguing: * "Is it fair that you ate the food and now want a full refund?" (Fair? Your staff committed credit card fraud--this isn't about fairness, it's about theft.) * "If you can't forgive in life, then life will be hard for you." (This isn't a moral dilemma; it's a legal issue.) * She insisted that 'Asian people don't steal' and that 'if you do good, you receive good, and if you do bad, you receive bad.' (If that's the case, then bad service should receive a bad tip--not an altered one!) * She even justified the fraud by saying the waitress' mother has stage 5 cancer and she probably needed the money. (That's heartbreaking, but it doesn't excuse stealing from customers.) The worst part? Instead of taking accountability, they tried to guilt-trip me into accepting it as a "mistake" and completely dismissed the fact that their employee was caught committing fraud. If this happened to me, I guarantee I am not the only victim. If you dine here, check your bank statements and ALWAYS take a picture of your receipt. This restaurant allows theft from customers and refuses to acknowledge the seriousness of credit card fraud. I have worked in the restaurant industry for years, and NEVER have I seen or even considered forging a tip. Tips are earned, not stolen. But at Sushi Yama, if your server isn't happy with what you left, they'll just give themselves more. This restaurant has lost my business forever, and I urge others to be extremely cautious--if you eat here, protect yourself, check your receipts, and watch your bank statements carefully. Absolutely disgraceful business practices. This was the first time we tried sushi Yama. We ordered four different rolls. Two were simple and two were really unique to this restaurant. Our favorites with a crispy rice with shrimp roll, and the volcano roll. Plenty of food, excellent service, and a reasonable price tag. We will come back again in the future! read more

A lovely restaurant offering a wide variety of sushi rolls artistically displayed. We first had hot saki and spicy margarita yum! We had the most delicious soup- Tom Kha Gai Witches chicken, mushrooms, lime juice, lemongrass and coconut milk. We've been ordered three signature rolls which were the Daimyo Maki which is tuna salmon yellowtail avocado asparagus scallion and Roe. Futomaki roll Large roll with crab Tamargo Campillo spinach cucumber asparagus and Roe and Kastle the Black dragon roll which is spicy Hamachi salmon asparagus avocado scallion and Roe topped with Grill eel. They were gorgeous and delicious. What more can we ask for? There were several TVs surrounding the restaurant offering a variety of different shows and sports. The 4 stars are based on my husband's bento box lunch. It was quite large, filled with fresh, delicious seafood and quite reasonably priced. In addition, it was beautifully presented. There was so much in the box -- sashimi, sushi, a California roll, shrimp tempura, etc. And he actually took home several of the pieces of nigiri sushi along with (we think) a cooked pork shu mai piece for dinner later. They have a number of lunch specials. They are located at the bottom of one side of the menu. We didn't see it right away. The restaurant is huge -- taking up an entire corner. We followed the GPS and parked, but the entrance was actually around the other side. We've been to this shopping center -- it has a number of restaurants -- but didn't realize it was the same location beforehand. There is ample parking, but it's a busy area so you may have to park and walk. I ordered an item from the lunch menu that I had never had before -- and didn't know much about. It was good, but not what I thought it would be. Only later that afternoon did I look it up and found it's a Japanese "comfort" dish often served to children. The "oyakodon" was described on the menu as "boneless chicken cooked with egg and vegetable in a special sauce". So I thought it would be similar to a stir fry. Instead, it was a separate small bowl of soy based broth/soup with egg mixed in along with carrots, bell peppers and onions. On a separate dish, a sliced grilled white meat chicken breast was served on top of white rice. Each component was fine -- the chicken fairly plain -- but I had no idea how to eat it "correctly". In any case, we look forward to trying some of their other menu items (the menu is quite large). And yes, we will be back. read more

Took out for lunch Sunomono and Sashimi appetizer both my style of protein favorites. The cuts of the fish were nice sizes and when I got home I really enjoyed the combo. Of flavors. I was waiting for service when the gentleman behind the counter called me over and took my order. When it was done the waitress brought it over and took my money she was very pleasant. The lunch crowd was very friendly and lively. The restaurant itself is decorated beautifully and peaceful. I have driven by often and enjoyed the outdoors decorations as very inviting. Used to find the place to be decent, and I like that we can usually get a table without too much trouble, but the food just isn't that great. The shrimp in the volcano shrimp, for example, were horribly over cooked, and the flavor of the dish could not disguise it. I was also disappointed on my recent visit by the spicy tuna roll -- it seems to be just a dollop of wasabi on some mediocre tuna. It was supposed to be round rings with 2 different dipping sauces. It came out looking like 4 long fried slices..looked just like a mozzarella stick would. The sauce was not the same as the picture. i mentioned it to the waiter to make sure I was getting the same $7.00 appetizer and he had to speak to the manager. very disappointed in this. wonton soup was flavorful and the wontons were spot on..the rolls were gross. The avocado and asparagas was falling out of them. They totally fell apart when trying to eat them. The tuna tower was not a tower. it was 6 pieces of rolls with a crisp cracker type thing on them. totally fell apart when eating. big turnoff. the garlic low mein was fair. broccoli so hard you couldnt chew it. the green ice tea was $5.00 a glass. are you serious???? and the very small teapot was $4.00 will not resvisit this establishment we paid 88.00 plus tip on this meal. Sushi Yama is my one of my favorite sushi places in Florida, hands down. Large portions, extremely fresh, reasonably priced, great ambiance, and large menu selection make it a fantastic place to go. Well equipped for large groups or small, with great bar selections as well! Live music and outdoor space make it even better. Order: - naruto roll (cucumber outside) - Hurricane Roll (pictured) and Daimyo rolls are my favorite specialty rolls - Green curry is amazing - the summer rolls! Omg. My husband and I went for lunch. The food was very good and authentic. The service was perfect and I loved the ambience.

Maybe the worst service I e ever experienced in any restaurant. Sat down to eat at 6pm. Asked three times for a waiter but didn't get our drink order in until after 6:30. Food took another hour but the real problem was that nobody cared one way or the other that we were even there. No refills of water, entrees dribbled out one at a time, no asking if the food was ok, no silverware ( we held onto the salad forks for dear life), no nothing. If it was just me and my family I would have left no tip (only the second time ever) but I had to deal with it as we were with others. I noticed several others with the same review so it's obvious the restaurant isn't that concerned about service issues. Will definitely never be back! PS- the food was average at best. The Sushi is always fresh. Everything I have tried has been fantastic. They have the best wonton soup. The restaurant is clean and not dark inside. they have hand sanitizer at every table. Bonita has been my waitress the past several times that I've been there and she has been fantastic. As well as the rest of the staff. Definitely a five star restaurant. read more

Regretfully we won't be coming again after becoming regulars because of service, and this is coming from someone with a foot in the service industry. Arrived early, they had reserved tables, ordered a seaweed salad, two kids meals and two rolls. Salad came right away. Rolls an hour twenty later. Blamed it on "big party" at reserved tables that arrived much later than we did. We weren't the only table ignored either. It's disappointing because of the quality of their food, however this kind of service is simply unacceptable and we aren't willing to take a gamble with favoritism towards larger paying parties.
