We are in town for a couple days and wanted to get some sushi before we left. This place was super close to where we are staying so we gave it a try. It was delicious! I'm from San Diego, and I've tried lots of different restaurants so I was pleasantly surprised. The service was great, everyone that helped us was very kind. Prices were decent and the decor was lovely. I have never seen such a large sushi roll menu!
Normally, we order delivery from Sushi Time. This time, we ate in. What a delightful experience! From the samurai decor throughout the restaurant to the screens dividing each table to the sweetest wait staff, this place may just become a new regular outing. The food is always great at a decent price. The service and ambiance are the cherry on top. The next time you're in the mood for sushi that doesn't break the bank, I definitely recommend this cozy spot.
An amazing find in Seaside!! For $18.62, I got their lunch bento special, which was a good portion of spicy California rolls, chicken katsu, rice, salad and miso soup. The lunch special is customizable and you can pick from a lot of different sushi and meat. And during lunch, you get a free side of gyoza! In this economy, this is a steal! Great quality too! Great portions!
7.5/10 Came in for sushi and overall had a good experience, with some clear highs and lows. Sashimi was the star of the night, super fresh, flavorful, and honestly a must-get. 10/10. The tuna rolls were solid with a generous tuna-to-rice ratio, but the cuts were pretty uneven, as you can see, and the seaweed wrap was oddly sticky and getting stuck to my teeth (never had that happen before). Still tasty overall 8/10. Great sushi, just not the most precise cuts. Staff was kind and genuinely considerate, but the place was busy busy. It felt like the team was sprinting around trying to keep up. My order came out wrong, and everything was served at totally different times, which made the meal feel inconsistent. I honestly felt like helping them at one point. Small space, tight seating, and a lot of foot traffic around us. Decor was nice, but nothing on the TVs (no sports). Just okay overall. The sushi itself was worth it, fresh and enjoyable, but the service and seating situation could definitely be smoother.
If you haven't been to Sushi Time in Seaside yet, go ahead and cancel whatever plans you had. Dentist appointment, gym session, laundry day... irrelevant. Your new priority is eating here ASAP. Let's start with the Funny Bunny roll. Listen. I was not prepared for a sweet potato to come in and steal the whole show like Beyoncé entering a room. It's vegetarian, yes... but the flavor? The crunch? The "hello, I didn't know I needed this in my life"? Absolutely unhinged. Whoever invented this roll deserves a raise, a hug, and maybe joint custody of my future children (just kidding). Then we tried the Sake Blossom, which is basically a love letter to salmon. If you're a salmon fan, this roll will snatch your soul right out of your body. Soft, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth... the kind of roll that makes you close your eyes dramatically like you're in a food commercial. Next up: the Mango Tango. Tropical, refreshing, and honestly gave me vacation vibes. One bite and I was mentally on a beach chair with a drink in hand, ignoring my responsibilities. It's fruity, it's fun, it's giving "summer fling" energy... except this fling won't ghost you. Now let's talk about the people, because the food is amazing... but the service? Even better. The crew are so friendly and sweet that you feel you're getting diabetes. And Joe -- the owner -- is a whole ray of sunshine. Attentive, chipper, and such a humble guy. Bottom line: this place is a must. The rolls slap, the service is A+, and the energy is so warm and happy you'll walk out feeling like you just visited family... the good side of the family, not the ones who ask why you haven't popped another baby just yet. Run, don't walk. Your taste buds will thank you.
We visited this sushi restaurant last night, which is a place I've gone to many times before. It was a Friday around 6:30 pm and fairly busy, but when we arrived we were the only two people waiting to be seated. We stood near the front for several minutes and could see the staff and what appeared to be the owner looking in our direction, but no one acknowledged us or came to seat us. Shortly after, another couple with their teenage daughter came in behind us. The man quickly greeted them and attempted to seat them right away. When he realized there wasn't a clean table available, he asked them how many were in their party. The couple even looked at us and it became clear that we had been waiting there first. Despite that, he grabbed menus and proceeded to seat them before us. The couple themselves seemed a little uncomfortable and looked back at us again as it happened. I've always enjoyed coming here for sushi, but this interaction was disappointing. All customers deserve to be acknowledged and seated in the order they arrive. I'm not sure what the reason was, but it definitely left me feeling overlooked and uncomfortable. I hope the restaurant takes situations like this seriously because good customer service and fairness matter. I will say we enjoy the food but I'm not sure I'll be coming back anytime soon.
Located in a strip mall with decent parking, the sushi rolls were so good! The Totoro roll was bomb, like poke as a sushi roll. The kawaii was good esp if you like a good assortment of fish. My partner tried the tonkotsu, said it was okay but it was not their strong suit.
I've been here 3xs so far, there is a local Dr who really likes this spot! They open at 11:30, so I always get there a little before 11:30, so I can place the order right at 11:30, so I can make it to the Dr office by 12. I always get rolls here and this time I asked the waiter for suggestions-he gave me a handful of recommendations. I went with one of his, "The Hakuna Matata roll" and then one that sounded good to me, "The Hamachi Daisuki roll". But I wish I would have gone with both of his suggestions, since the one I picked I didn't really like! But the one he picked was great!! They always have the food ready for me by 12:50, which gives me just enough time to make it to the Dr office in time.
I decided to try this place after passing it hundreds of times, and I'm sad to say I wish I kept on driving. I came to the restaurant around dusk for dinner service. There were a few open seats and was promptly seated by the folks rolling sushi. They do have high chairs for the kids and the bathroom was locked when I went back there, and they were gender-specific. I ordered the Agedashi Tofu and a Tiger Roll. The sauce that came with the tofu was underwhelming, but the tofu was nice, firm and crispy. The Tiger Roll wasn't the best. The rice had a mushy texture & consistency. For the price, I think I will return for other items. Price: $34 (w/20% tip)
First off, I have to say the Studio Ghibli decor in this establishment is fabulous! I also liked the spacing of the tables in here.. it didn't feel cramped. Second, the waiter was super nice and the service was very quick. Third, the miso soup and the salmon roll that i had was AMAZING!! I'll definitely be returning for more. However, I believe my chicken was undercooked. I was told it was because of the marmalade it sits in, but I've never seen such pink poultry. I was nervous to eat it, but I had a few bites.. I was too chicken to eat the rest..no pun intended.. Needless to say the chicken teriyaki had EXCELLENT flavor, I just wish it could have been cooked either more well done or make a marmalade less pink.. the color makes for unappetizing chicken. I will return though 100%. Their sushi rolls were way better than any other sushi shop I've been to from seaside to pacific grove.

Called in an ordered of 3 sushi rolls from here to accompany our Korean Fried Chicken lunch. They said it was gonna take 15 minutes, got there in 10 minutes but i had to wait another 15 minutes. They didn't make my order until I got there which is common for this place or they get the order wrong (luckily this time all orders were correct). Customer Service: Okay..I guess just depends on whether cashier & wait help is having a bad/good day. Price: Expensive Quality: Mediocre Taste: The rice itself was bland thus everything on the sushi was bland...first bite from my Red Dragon was tasteless, so disappointing. I've been here several times..lunch with family & friends and I've also done countless take out. It's best to eat in..quality of their food is much better than take out. Will not return, I'll patronize other businesses instead. read more

We ordered to-go after spending an extremely long day at Monterey Bay exploring the aquarium and walking around Cannery Row. I can't say too much because I didn't order any of their special rolls. Food - It was average, nothing really stood out. The avocado was eh and the fish was eh as well. The size of the sushi was also just a typical sized sushi. Service - Very quick and friendly. I called to place an order and they said it would take 15-20 minutes. I drove and got there in 10 minutes and the food was already prepared. When I walked in, the host and other waitresses were very friendly at welcoming/greeting us. Environment - It seemed like a small and cozy restaurant. It seemed like everyone was enjoying their food and the space they were in. read more

My ALL TIME FAVORITE SUSHI SPOT! Hands down my kids and I have been coming here for years! I even got my friends who are really super duper sushi lovers too loving this place! The atmosphere is amazing. The decor and settings is filled with a warm strong and loving Japanese Vibe! My most recent favorite roll is the Garlic Roll and The Lobster Roll hands down delicious! You must come through when the first open if you come at night expect a wait. But it is well worth it if you do have to wait! read more

Service here has always been something I'd rant about for days. Rant because they can remain horrible and not deter hordes of customers who come here for what actually matters: the food. They forget things, they don't follow up on things, they come up with excuses for the former two etc, etc, etc. I remember well how one server back in the day looked me up and down and said that I couldn't beat the current champ of the $1 Monday night nigiri because I was skinny. It amused me and then left a burning bitter bile in my mouth. Wait, this person thinks I can't beat someone because I'm "skinny" and he had put away 60 nigiri and was miserable after? When I asked if she wanted me to prove her wrong, she nonchalantly replied that I would be wasting my money. She was talking to someone who can put away 2 whole Costco chickens in one sitting easily while consuming all kinds of sides and still feel there was more room to stuff. A smart server would have made tips that night taking on that challenge and benefited the restaurant in the process. But no, that's what dumb front of the house people do. Besides the other visits of forgotten orders blamed on the kitchen again due to failed input, there is this ongoing, "oh, let me find out" with a face of "oh shoot, I forgot because I'm an idiot" look. My favorite? I asked for water twice to be refilled and it never happened. Two visits with the same thing. Now you would ask why they still had 4 stars? Well, it's because their 5 star review is dinged by the idiots up front. But I didn't come here to have great service. I came solely for the food. So thankfully we are on the same page that you can have incompetent front of the house and still have a full house. It's always about the food. You can have perfect servers and if the food was nothing but crap, expect a forever empty restaurant. Here's the take: It's not for purists who know the art. From cuts to selection, it doesn't take one to know it isn't from apprentice to anything true Japanese. However, it is fresh most of the time and truly appetizing if you're a fan of the Korean take to this cuisine. Dead giveaway? White fish with some form of pickled onions. Dead freaking giveaway. Fresh is king and once again, it's all about Monday nights. Join the Zerg herd and binge to guiltless satisfaction. It's a buck then. A buck we have too many of to waste of similar less fresh imitations. Most of all, it's Monterey. If someone from the kitchen side actually tries to get it right, you'll see results. But seriously, fix that incompetent front of house. Last visit, I was close to throwing a glass of water at my server for being the most incompetent idiot I've ever met in the industry. Where do you source these people? Better not be from the same suppliers as your fish or you'd easily see your reviews go from 4-5 stars to nothing but ones. Kitchen. Stay awesome. Front of house. From a service standpoint, my rating would be a 5 because the older gentleman with the super outgoing personality that served me was wonderful. He was friendly, quick, and helpful. However, I thought the food was mediocre, and I didn't really enjoy my sushi but I couldn't exactly pinpoint the reasons why. Each piece left me puzzled. The tofu in the miso soup also tasted rancid. The chicken katsu lunch plate was adequate in taste and proportion. read more

So very disappointer this time around. Food was ready when I came by to pick it up. Katsu was missing the sauce. Rice was dry, a slight bite to the kernals. The sesame chicken was overcooked and over fried. The tempura sauce container melted and leaked all over my tempura, plus there was a bug floating around inside the container. The soup was probably the only thing that was hot. Usually they are good about separating cold items from hot. But my sesame chicken and rice were under the salads.... read more

A delightful experience with generous portions and friendly, fast service. We came in to celebrate a family event, and we're seated quickly after a short wait on a Saturday night. Food was better than I expected, and one of my dining companions was also thrilled at the quality and spot on seasonings. Wish they had a second location closer to me! Wholeheartedly recommend. The food was really good! I ordered the jalapeño bombs, 49er roll, popcorn lobster roll, alien roll & the fried oysters! All were super yummy!! The service however wasn't the best, our server took a while for her to check in with us! She would constantly walk by us and not check in but would check in on the other table across from us. We were ordering 1-2 rolls at a time, so she would see our empty plates and keep walking/ignoring us! which to me isn't really good service :( read more

I haven't been to this, my favorite sushi restaurant in some time because, you know life happens. I dropped in today, tired and hungry. They didn't disappoint. I got the lunch special, only $14 for two choices and they were perfect! Including a delicious miso soup, salad and ideal rice. 4 big pieces of fresh fish and beef teriyaki. More than I could eat, so I took some home for my dinner. Service was fast from a darling waitress, and everyone was kind and helpful. The restroom was clean. Hay, it matters! read more

I'm a big sushi fan and my first time here. My son and his Monterey Peninsula buddies swear by this restaurant. He decided to take dad for the first time. Located at the end of a small strip mall (liquor store, nail shop, notary public, etc.), the restaurant itself is pretty nondescript with the typical bamboo shades, Japanese paintings and other accents - an extremely casual dining experience. We arrived at 5:30 pm on a Tuesday night (they reopened for dinner at 5:00) and they were already quite busy. The service staff was very friendly, attentive and we were seated right away. We ordered two appetizers and four of their specialty sushi rolls (Rainbow roll, Coco Loco Roll, Philly roll and a fire cracker roll). The rolls were tasty and full of the fresh seafood flavor that any sushi lover craves. I highly recommend coming for the food and not so much for the ambiance. Sushi Time is definitely on my "go-to" list of sushi restaurants! read more

We ordered takeout from here an hour before closing. I was surprised at how busy this place was when we arrived to pick up our takeout order. They were hit with a ton of orders right before closing. Shout out to the front house who kept the things moving and ensured people wouldn't wait long for their orders to be made. The food itself was pretty good considering it is takeout and our order was placed a bit before closing. We originally asked for amaebi sashimi, which they did have in stock. However, within a few minutes of placing our order, we received a call from the restaurant stating the chef didn't think the amaebi looked fresh anymore and didn't feel comfortable serving it. I appreciated the call very much and am grateful they kept our safety and health in mind while making our order! The man taking our order made a few suggestions based off of our sushi preferences to make up for the loss of our amaebi sashimi. He was very sweet and helpful especially considering the fact it was the last hour before closing and the restaurant was busy taking in last minute orders. The rolls themselves are pretty good. The alien roll was probably the highlight of all the rolls we ordered. The crab was delicious and made the roll feel decadent and very filling. The hamachi Kama was huge. I didn't like the sauce it came with as it was a bit too sweet and thick for my liking. My fiancé didn't mind the sauce. He found it pretty tasty and the fish itself was very flavorful. Came here for lunch. Everything was delicious and fresh. The place was super clean and service was fast. We tried the spicy garlic edamame and baked dynamite roll. Which were excellent! We also got lunch combo of spicy tuna roll and beef teriyaki that comes with a salad, rice, and miso soup very good and well-priced for lunch. read more
