I didn't have the highest expectations when my boyfriend told me we were going to a place called "sushi time" lol but it is now my favorite sushi place in the vicinity. I was staying at a nearby hotel and wanted to have some Japanese food so I tried this place last night. I called in in order to go from the menu that was shown on the yelp website. I ordered the very reasonably priced tempura combination dinner which came with rice miso soup, a salad and nine pieces of a California roll. I had my choice of rolls. The tempura was absolutely delicious shrimp and vegetables with a yummy dipping sauce. The California roll was OK. It was a crab salad, which is not my favorite, but it was plentiful. My only dislike would have been a salad dressing, which was not good and made me not eat the salad. I thought this was an awful lot of food for the price. Don't hesitate to try this place. read more

Disclaimer: This review is purely for the service and not the food. We got here while it's semi busy, it's a long weekend everyone is busy. There were two people ahead of us and a few tables available. The hostess was brainless or something, she asked the people in front of us how many, they answered 2. She looked instead of placing them into a table that'd seat 2 people they she placed them at a 4 person table. While never even came back or acknowledged us until another Asian lady came and acknowledged us. By that time it was a 40 min wait because the previous hostess doesn't know how to do her job! I am such a food snob, and I've tried so many sushi places in my life. I really wasn't expecting much when I came here because the location is a bit sketchy, but the sushi was truly incredible. The fish was so fresh. The spicy garlic edamame was probably the best I've ever had in my life and the big boy sushi roll was massive and so freshly fried and crispy. Service was super fast (this partly could be because we came pretty late lol) . I could not recommend this place enough not to mention the price was so fair. We ordered about three rolls and the garlic edamame and it came to about $70 which honestly for California pricing is not bad at all!!!! Considering everything the price point and how fresh the food was everything was incredible. The decor and ambiance was very warm and fit the theme of the restaurant name well. It was fairly clean and we enjoyed our time while we dined in. The fried calamari was really good, super soft and flavorful. The sushi didn't take too long to come out. It was presented beautifully and looked delicious. The fish tasted fresh and the sushi was well sauced. The variety of flavors and ingredients in each roll blended very well together and tasted great. The only thing that I didn't enjoy was the sushi rice. It tasted like the sushi rice that you buy from Raley's or one of the sister stores. Called in order and when I went to pick it up, it was the wrong thing. So I waited for my seafood soup. When I got home and poured it into a bowl ... there was 1 shrimp and 1 mussel! We had two dinner rolls and appetizers, they were really good but not mind blowing to me personally. Appetizers beat the sushi rolls IMO so fill up on those and go light on sushi!! My partner loves the place so I will be back again. Service was great and nothing out of the ordinary so not remarkable which is a good thing in itself. Sushi time is a quaint sushi spot located in an unassuming strip mall. We arrived at 8 pm on a weeknight and were greeted by the hostess who asked us to take a seat anywhere we liked. There are only about a dozen tables to sit at and half were occupied which meant we had a fair amount of options between the smaller and larger seating areas. We watched the sushi chef preparing rolls behind the bar and he was HUSTLING! Rolls came out fast and presentation was on point. This was my first time here and I wasn't sure what it was expecting when I ordered the "fire fire roll". Now... the description does say "Served on Flaming skillet" but I was thinking something more akin to the sizzling skillets you get fajitas on at a Mexican restaurant. But, no, this thing was on fire! It was definitely eye catching and something fun I hadn't seen at other sushi restaurants. The roll is double covered inside of aluminum foil so that it's not compromised by the isopropyl alcohol they're using to light the plate on fire. My only disappointment with ordering this roll is that I is technically a baked roll but was not listed under the baked roll section. I'm more of a fan of fresh fish and I don't typically order baked / warm sushi rolls. But the presentation was still a fun little surprise and the roll itself tasted fine albeit too warm for my liking. The Garlic-Holic Roll had a lot going on and was really tasty but it surprisingly had almost no garlic flavor. That's not what you're expecting with a name like that! In fact, this is more of an "onion roll" given all the fried onions on top and that was the dominant flavor I was getting. Still, a very good roll, but it could use a name change OR something to make the garlic more pronounced. We ordered some takoyaki which is essentially Deep-fried Minced Octopus and Tempura Scraps, Topped with Bonito some unagi-esque sauce. If you've never had Takoyaki, think of a croquet made with octopus. Or, to really reduce it to something more American... an octopus hush puppy. The takoyaki was good but it didn't blow my mind. I'd probably pass on it next time and go for another app. Our bill came out to around 43 bucks (pre-tip) for two rolls and an app. That's not horrible given inflation right now but its "pricier" than the local options of seaside. The service was quick and food was good so i'll definitely come back to try some of their other rolls. Maybe I'll be surprised with more fun presentations. read more

We came here because it was closest to our hotel and we were hungry and bring that we were hungry you would think everything would good but guess we were wrong. Thank goodness for in-and-out close by also. Ordered the Combination Udon with a Spicy Albacore roll. The albacore roll was okay. The garnish ginger that came with it was too thick (compared to other places that I have been). I love udon and this was definitely was not my favorite. The soup was was too sweet. I felt like it was drinking sugar. The hubs ordered the sushi combo with a spicy tuna roll. The tuna roll was meh. The tuna was not gelatinous feeling like other places we been. It was more of a mush. The sushi platter was not a hit. The hubs said it didn't taste fresh and it tasted like the fish was going bad. Would not recommend. Oh forgot to mention there was also an insect in my udon. Normally I wouldn't mind in a noodle soup that has vegetables but the udon had no veggies so not sure there the bug came from. read more

We are vacationing in monterey and found this place. They have Great Food The Salmon Teriyaki was Onolicious and the eel and avocadi roll was Delicious. I also recommend the Ikageso " Ika Karaage" as a starter if you love calamari. I do love Sushi Time. The best is to sit at the bar and have the chef prepare you their choice of Items. It can get a little expensive getting freshly prepared nigiri and sashimi instead of the more economical rolls, but if you feel like treating yourself, this is the only way to go. People who came in after me and had a sit-down meal completed their meal and left before my order came out. I asked every 15 minutes and was told my order was coming soon.
