I've been to Sushi Mame (formerly Kichi Sushi House) a few times, and it's always quiet inside the restaurant, even on the weekends. No more than two or three people are sitting in at a time, but a few people will pick up takeaway orders in the time it takes you to eat, which is a good sign.
The staff are sweet, helpful, and cheery no matter what. Often it's just one front-of-house and the chef, who appear to be family members, so it can take a few minutes to get their attention once they duck behind the curtain to attend to kitchen matters.
There is a sushi train with a small number of nigiri, gyoza, and maki rolls--the rest are made fresh to order including salmon varieties so just ask--as well as a staple menu with rice bowls and noodles, the classic tempura, bento, and of course, California rolls.
The food is fresh, though a little basic, but it's accessible and affordable Japanese fare made and served by some of the friendliest people in Brisbane, and they always seem to have a great noughties playlist on so you can get nostalgic while you wait for your next plate to make it's way around the tracks. read more
