This is a great little sushi train with the added bonus of yum cha... some may even call it the Sushi Cha! Okay... not that you would but you could definetely call it that. On the menu displayed in front of every seat there is a vast array of sushi choices, dishes, and yum cha options! Now, I should tell you readers of this review out there that I'm not a big fan of seemingly posh restaurants (especially at Emporium) mixing their cuisines... I have always thought it somehow cheapens your food... but the yum cha menu does compliment the sushi train's array of choice I must say in this case. There is quite a bit of technology happening in this joint... there is the buttons you press at each seated station on the train to ask for service, the bill... other things and there is always the convenient option of Pay Pass... with your credit card so there isn't a wait on the way out. For the fancy dinner people, there are cozy little booths on the left side of the restaurant as you enter with nice mood lighting (not fluoro lighting, always a good thing) and there are smaller tables all the way to the back of the restaurant... although it is a pretty long sushi train compared to others... so if you miss something you will be waiting a while until it comes back around. Food is pretty authentic and the atmosphere is very el trendy. I would go back there for dinner or lunch purely for the choice of sushi and yum cha... or the sushi cha!

Its now one of three and probably soon to be four, as development on another site on Oxford Street seems to indicate, yet another Japanese Restaurant. Sushi Mura is not Japanese/Chinese fusion like Yum Yum Gyoza House, and has a wide selection of dishes you would typically find at a Japanese restaurant on their menu. From Sushi through to mixed sushi boxes, Salads, Japanese U-don soups, various Curries and of course Teriyaki options. There's room for dining-in and inside (which is larger than Yum Yum Gyoza House) there's an aesthetically calm feel to the space. Simple low hanging pendant lights and the natural colours of the wooden floors (& matching tables), and with the use of black chairs giving form and definition. The service is friendly and full of smiles. Always wins points with me. The food can't really be faulted either. I like Japanese food. I am a fan of their Teriyaki chicken bento box, which comes standard with rice, miso soup and salad. The spring rolls and calamari were great too. In terms of pricing, its not too bad, and yes I do think its "value-for-money". However, If I had to compare Sushi Mura to Yum Yum Gyoza House, the latter slightly wins on this criteria. All-in-all, Bulimbarians and east-siders in general should feel lucky they are spoilt for choice when it comes to Japanese cuisine.

My visit was interesting this time. I had the karaage, edamame and some dragon rolls. On this visit I was trying to collect my dishes as take away. The lady insisted I wait for fresh orders instead of taking existing orders off the train as I would have done in the past. This made take away a fair bit longer. Perhaps the server should have offered me the choice of I was time poor. The server wasn't quite aware of the full menu when I asked for a particular item she said they didn't have until I showed her on the menu, maybe I wasn't clear. I paid for my items and waited an extraordinary amount of time for my order to be presented. The chef kindly brought my order to me and sent me out the door only to have the server chase me out the door and into the car park to check my order to make sure it was correct, I can only presume she was doing as she fished through my bag outside the restaurant while the other diners watched. It was quite embarrassing really. Perhaps they could have communicated. Probably won't be back to this Sushi Train.

Since the fit-out a few years ago this place has taken on a slightly more "put together" feel. The dark wood adds a nice touch to the interior, but it still feels very squeezy if you're situated in a single chair at the train on either end of the booths. The food is simple, standard "child friendly" sushi and sashimi along with gyoza, chicken strips, prawn parcels, spring rolls and various desserts including jelly cups. I nearly always request a couple of fresh hand rolls and I am always impressed with the thick cut salmon and creamy japanese mayonnaise. The drink selection is small and they offer free ice cold water. Service is fast and friendly so even if they are full to bursting you will only be waiting a short time to secure a spot.

I was hesitant to try out Fresh Sushi Co. because I am quite critical about Japanese food, especially when it comes to raw fish, but I decided that the displays looked fresh and it looked popular enough to give it a go. I ordered the Half Sushi Moriawashi, at plate of five nigiri and an ikura battleship. The sashimi was fresh, for the most part, though the shrimp gave me a slight reaction, which doesn't usually happen with the freshest of fish and seafood. I was a bit dismayed, but overall, the fish were fresh, and the ginger was tender and not sinewy ("old" - as they say). The price isn't cheap for a fast food-like setting, as their chirashi is 33AUD for a bowl, but it looks like it would be super delicious! Alas, I will wait until I visit home...

It's the sort of place where the new parents going out to lunch are feeding the baby some quinoa-based baby food on the side. My interest in it is that where Japanese is generally vegetarian-unfriendly, MIZU offers a nice menu with a variety of well-marked options. Their signature vegetarian dish, agedashi tofu, was pleasant enough but didn't quite live up to my expectations. It was a distinctive combination of sweet and salty, but basically a tapas-size portion, not nearly substantial enough for the price. My tea confirmed that toasted rice in tea does indeed taste good, but I might have been better off ordering more food instead. Don't get me wrong, I could imagine going back and being full if I was willing to spend a lot, and they have some appealing things I'd like to try, but setting aside the novelty (for me) of Japanese, there are plenty of places where I know I could do better.
