I visited this place on the strength of the review by Tammy E. but unfortunately I think either the chef has changed or ownership has, or the review is simply false (wrong location?) because despite rave reviews for special desserts like "coconut surprise", the only dessert on offer was a Green Tea ice cream. I visited on a weekday - I believe it was Thursday - I'm not sure if they had a different chef at the tim. Featured Items: Tempura Starter 3/5 Triple Salmon 3/5 White Sea Roll 4/5 The Tempura Starter was OK - Can't go wrong with Tempura Shrimp, but the rest of the vegetable tempura didn't taste particularly special. Triple Salmon - This was particularly disappointing. There's nothing wrong with the freshness, but there's no outstanding taste from it either. Neither the "Grilled Salmon" not the "Smoked Salmon" had any outstanding flavor to it - I felt like I could get more taste from off-the-shelf Smoked salmon at a supermarket. White Sea Roll - This was a better item, but overall it had the same issue with the Triple Salmon as not having much flavor, apart from the real crab added. It felt like the wrong combination of toppings were added to give it a good taste. At the end, I was hoping for something remarkable like Tammy E. mentioned for dessert like "Coconut Surprise", but really there was nothing except Green Tea Ice Cream. Given the current state, I would say it's best to avoid this location until the quality of the food improves.

We were grabbing groceries on the way to Whistler and decided to stop for some lunch. We decided on Sushi Sen because of the reviews. Inside is nice. Pretty minimalistic decor but the traditional outfits on the wall made a statement. Staff was a bit unattentive but also busy. We decided on a few rolls to share - Black Dragon, Starcraft Roll, Tuna Karagge Roll and the Ika Shisho Roll. Some hits and some misses. First with the hits. The Starcraft roll was amazing. Beautifully presented, lots of contrasts with colours. The deep fried seaweed rice paired well with creampy chopped scallow and tuna. This was our favourite. The other one that left an impression was the Ika Shisho Roll. The perilla leave provided a zip to the squid. The black dragon roll was fine but not outstanish. The Spicy Tuna Karagge Roll was not good at all. We only ate one each, and normally we finish everythign. The tuna was overcooked and dried out to heck. It tasted like sawdust in our mouth. Anything else in there was overshadowed by the horrible fish. Don't order this one. I would go back again but stick with the raw stuff. In general, a pretty decent place if you are craving sushi

*Update* Came back to ski Whistler this year and had to come here on back to back nights. There was so much more of the menu we had to try! Both nights we left completely satiated - the food was consistently top notch along with the service. Highlights from this trip included two new desserts (the hazelnut pear and rose petal ice cream with rose/sake), spicy yellowtail roll, chef's choice urchin (uni)/squid, BBQ hamachi kama (yellowtail cheek), and sitting at the sushi bar across from the amazing sushi chef and owner. What an honor! I don't know why this isn't THE most talked about restaurant in town or really even into Whistler because it was out of this world amazing! After talking to the server I learned that the owners, the chef, and most of the cooking staff here are from Japan. This was apparent in the varied unique dishes on the menu. Actually what drew me to this restaurant were the menu pages people had posted in the photos section here. I was immediately intrigued and had to find out in person if it was for real or just fantasy! Every dish we ordered was prepared with an artfulness and care. Water glasses were never empty, all of the staff were friendly, helpful, and seemed to enjoy being there even though it was Valentine's Day and they may have wanted to be elsewhere. Other reviewers have neutrally commented on the sushi here - we ordered one sushi item (raw scallop sushi roll) and it was fresh, uniquely prepared, and delicious so I'm happy to give it my commendation. I would however encourage people to try one of their many other dishes while here. I have been able to find decent sushi in locales around the world, but Japanese delicacies are difficult to find this side of the Pacific! I highly recommend the dobinmushi (teapot soup), renkon isobe (shrimp sandwiched lotus root deep fried and sliced), and the coconut surprise specialty dessert. You will not be disappointed! What a treat to stumble upon this place in the small town of Squamish! This place is truly a gem.

I am a huge fan of sushi-- love love love my California and shrimp tempura roll with an appetizer of gyoza and edamame... mm YUM. My husband and I wanted to grab a quick snack before heading back to the house and popped in for a roll or two depending on pricing. We were pleasantly surprised to find that Sushi Sen had competitively low prices, and since it's in CAD it would be even cheaper with the conversion! A shrimp tempura roll was around $6 and a California roll with REAL crab (not the typical artificial) was around $5. Now-- did these cheap eats taste good? YES. I was skeptical as the shrimp tempura roll had asparagus in it... and for those who know me, I HATE veggies. Somehow I couldn't taste it at all and just felt like it added an extra crunch similar to what the cucumber would have been. The California roll with the real crab was a bit salty and there's actually a strangely large amount of mayo that wasn't my favorite but overall it was pretty tasty. A weee bit disappointed with the service as we only saw our server once and had asked for water that we never got but overall pretty good and well priced.

After a day of river rafting, we were craving some sushi. With limited options in Squamish, this was the only one nearby with the best reviews. The service was a bit slow to start. We chose to sat outside since it was a nice day but I think they kept forgetting about us. It took a while for the server to even get our order and give us water. Another customer next to us was frustrated as well. Other than that, the food was great for such an affordable price! At $10 for each specialty roll, we got the triple salmon roll, rainbow roll, red hot dynamite roll, and dancing eel roll. The dancing eel was our favorite and I didn't care too much for the triple salmon roll but they were all still really fresh and tasty. You really can't beat the price here and it will definitely satisfy your sushi fix.

So glad I visited this restaurant during my trip! The food was amazing and very affordable (even more so with the favorably Canadian dollar to US dollar exchange rates). Loved everything I had here: 1. agedashi tofu, soft tofu with a crispy shell, and nice tipping sauce 2. 7 pieces of nigiri were all fresh and delicious. Too bad they had run out of uni by the time I arrived. A couple of the fish came with the option to torch/sear the fish, in my opinion, that was not needed, the fish would have been pretty nice just by itself. 3. spicy ramen. Delicious broth, need a little more salt, but the noodles had a good texture, spinach, corn and bamboo toppings were nice. It would have been $1 extra to add an egg, but since I've been overdosing on eggs in my trip (easy protein to pack for long hiking days) I skipped it. Service was great and appreciate the little pack of Pocky that they give you at the end of your meal.

Neat sushi spot found slightly off the beaten path in Squamish after a day at whistler. There's a surprisingly good amount of seating here and yet the place was still bustling with people. Luckily we were seated right away though I had to drive around the block a few times to find a place to park -spots are sparse since so many places share the lot. For food, we ordered the miso ramen and a few rolls and though it took some time for it to come out, we enjoyed our meal. I appreciated the spicy tuna wasn't butchered and a quality grade of fish, that fried items were perfectly crispy, and that the rolls had just the right amount of rice to filling ratio. Yum. Ramen was good as well though the broth didn't have as much depth of flavor - they were also out of the spicy soup base that day, but we were still satisfied with our meals, service was super friendly, quality ingredients were used, and no food coma ensued which is a plus for the remaining drive back to Van. And to top it off, a small packet of pocky came with the bill as dessert. So glad we found this place. Will definitely be back!

Woah. Well...that was unexpected! Sushi Sen has some pretty fantastic food. I would not have expected the flavours to be quite this Japanese-y and fresh this far inland in Squamish! What is goooood: - The nigiri sushi! Seriously, everything we tried was so fresh and delicious. The hamachi toro was especially tasty. - I loved the fried lotus root with ebi and shiso leaves. - We had some katsuo carpaccio served in a ponzu dressing. Om nom nom... This is the kind of place where the fish is so tasty, it'd be a shame to order Canadain-style crazy maki rolls. Order the more traditional Japanese dishes to get the most out of the yummy flavours. What is less good: - If I'm totally honest, I was less impressed by some of the Izakaya staples. The karaage (fried chicken) and agedashi tofu were not particularly amazing. They're not bad, just not as perfect as the other things we tried.

Polite service but incredibly slow and not much accountability from the staff in terms of explaining why. They did a good job of identifying if the tempura and rolls had eggs or mayo respectfully. The food was "good" according to the kids. Not worth the wait, and the basic rolls (salmon and Kappa Maki) were as expected. I tried the Salmon and Ikura Don and upgraded to the Imperial Rice (which was a combination of brown and black rice) for an extra $1.50. It was heavy on the rice, and a little light on the ikura, shittake mushroom, and avocado. We also tried the Blue Fin cone special, spicy Mango roll, and a couple of special appetizers. Again, food quality was about average. We will not be back based on the speed of service. Over 30 minute wait average sushi, not worth it. The kids were not happy and noticeably hungry - and the staff never addressed that or apologized for the long wait.

I'll have to say Sushi Sen is amazeballs. My friend recommended this place for our post hike(from Chief) meals and she was so right on this. They're authentic Japanese restaurant with great price and huge portion. So I came with two friends and my friend got Sashimi Salad with Beef Box, another buddy got Sashimi Box ($17.00) and Tuna Karaage($7.95). As for me I got Sashimi Box and fell in love with it. I love their fast service and loved my food too. I'm impressed how my box came with Tai Sashimi along with salmon and tuna, and the tempuras came with green beans, prawns, sweet potato and yam. I'm glad they didn't put carrot tempura since I don't like carrots. My dearly bestie couldn't even eat Sashimi Salad and she was already full from Teriyaki Box($11.50 with beef). Man this place is seriously good. The server got our receipt mixed up after getting out bills. Later she got our receipts fixed and my buddy previously mentioned about free Pocky sticks. Yay, I left this resto feeling happy with free Pocky. I wish there's Sushi Sen near my house. Hopefully they open another one in Vancouver someday. Better if it was close to my house so I go there everyday.
