Last meal was at Won Japanese Restaurant on a busy Sunday evening. They're connected to the Cedars Inn Hotel. Service was spotty; had to ask for tea, serving plates, etc. Stingy with the ginger. - Tamago roll ($4.25) - standard - Negitoro roll ($6.25) - solid - Chopped scallop & tobiko roll ($6.75) - good sized scallops. Sadly, one roll was 95% filled with rice - Unagi roll ($10.25) - decent - Oshizushi sushi ($15.99 for 6) - could have used jalapeño slices to add some punch Decent maki rolls at WJR. 3.5 stars. read more

Ambiance is just fine... food was not very inspiring but passable. Our 12 year old blonde waitress didn't seem to have a clue about service...no greeting and a launch into a frozen faced "are you ready to order". most of her time was spent on her phone rather than checking on customers. Food is yummy. Service 50/50. And the Ambiance is just right. I choose the Viper roll and the Giant Roll if really hungry. Or you can order some nice shashimi I get the fresh Wild Sockeye Salmon. The quality of the food is higher than across the road at Sima Sushi, sometimes brings you raw fish but warm which can give you solminila poison. Amazing every visit! Had our occasional monthly treat at Won's yesterday, and we were greeted with the usual warm, inviting and pleasant servers. Food is fantastic and presentation entices you to devour more:) The restaurant is such a hidden gem on our Coast I'm split leaving this review, as to we want to keep this all to ourselves, yet we encourage everyone else to experience the super craftsmanship and care for detail and good quality you get every visit. We came here for dinner tonight, having been here once time prior. The food was ok, I've had better sushi at cheaper places and the service was abysmal. My partner and I ordered at the same time, my food arrived first. My partner invited me to go ahead and start eating. I was finished with my dinner and his still had not arrived. I went and asked one of the servers about the wait and she went to check. My partners food came out shortly after that and it was luke warm, indicating to us that it had been sitting in the back for a while. When I went to pay the check I informed our server of the issue and our dissatisfaction. We got a series of excuses and no apology or effort to rectify the situation. We will not be going here again, we get better service at the Subway Sandwiches across the road. This place did not leave me with the feeling that customer service was high on their list of priorities. read more

Excellent sushi and really good sized portions! They accommodated our party of 10 easily and we ordered a mix of sushi and other dishes. The service was a bit scarce which was unfortunate, and one of our party's meals took extremely long - everyone else was about done eating when it arrived. This place was nasty. My gf and I came here before catching a ferry back to Vancouver and man I got to say, really bad experience. My seafood gyoza came out cold in the center. When I asked for a new batch, they just threw my frozen gyoza back into the fryer and it came out burnt for round 2. My gf ordered some chicken teriyaki bowl that had zero flavor. She begged me to try it just to get a good laugh at how bad it was. Not sure if they found these chefs on a street corner but damn I want my money back. read more

We just spent over $90 for absolutely horrible food. Tuna Karage came as chicken and EVERYTHING was extremely overcooked. Not sure who you are using as the chef now, because it can't be the usual chef. Decent Japanese food. We ordered spinach gomae salad, agedashi tofu, deluxe tempura, beef bulgogi, and assorted nigiri. Flavours were good, and portions were fair. The agedashi tofu was quite heavy on the batter, though, and the gomae dressing was predominantly peanut butter (it didn't taste bad at all- just not what we are used to). Nigiri tasted fresh, and the slices of fish were generous in size. Service was hit-or-miss. There were three different people serving us, and none seemed particularly attentive. The sushi chef handed us the nigiri platter personally with a big smile, as we were sitting beside the sushi bar. We enjoyed that. The restaurant was comfortable, was decorated with a Japanese feel, and seemed clean. While the food was good, we would likely try other Japanese restaurants in town before returning. read more

We've eaten here a few times now, and think it's one of the handful of truly recommendable restaurants on the Sunshine Coast. We don't do sushi, so I can't speak to that, but have had a decent variety of other dishes. The food has been uniformly excellent, the portions more than ample, and the service top notch. And they're always happy to make changes to menu items to suit your preferences. All in all, an excellent dining experience. read more

Good food but don't come here 45 minutes pryer to closing or they will make you feel very unwelcome and rush you out the door. Ordered our food and was immediately given the bill. Waiter kept cleaning around us as we ate and made a point to make us feel as though we were a real inconvenience. I would understand if we were the only table there but there were several tables still eating. I'm only giving it 3stars because the food was good but the service was brutal. Foods great, and so are most of the servers, but the kitchen always has problems serving 3 of us at once, or even close. Usually it's not a major problem, but last night my wife got her food, then 15 minutes later I got mine, and then 20 minutes later my son got his. I think this was due to the high volume of pick ups happening that night. But that's not a excuse. Our server last night was nice and obviously sorry, but 10% off our blll was no compensation. We should have complained more but it's the best Sushi restaurant we have for atmosphere, so I hope they get their act together. read more

I can't believe this gem of a restaurant has been open for two months and there aren't more reviews. There are a ton of menu items including some really interesting rolls. The one I tried had pineapple tempura, mango, avocado and cream cheese. Outstanding! The deluxe tempura had a bit of everything - prawns, tempura, scallop, a couple of other kinds of seafood as well as veggies. INCREDIBLE value! I don't know how they can afford to sell it at such low prices. The decor is very authentically Japanese, and I think the chefs are too, which is rare in this part of the world. The only complaints for me were that it was way too difficult to get any info on this place. They don't seem to have a website, and their answering machine doesn't give the hours or even confirm that you've reached the right place. My server was also a little casual for my liking, (I really can't stand it when they refer to me and my party as "you guys") but I think she was in training. The rest of the staff were very courteous and helpful. I can't wait to go back and try the bento box for lunch - another incredible deal. The couple beside us said it was delicious. read more

Pretty darn great quality for the Sunshine Coast (thank goodness). I've eaten here twice and the ramen is pretty tasty, yakisoba was excellent, and the fish quality in the sushi was amazing. Excellent Japanese Restaurant in the heart of Gibsons. Beautiful Japanese traditional seating with cherry blossom trees surround you in this perfect gourmet Japanese establishment. My sister in laws favourite restaurant to eat at when she is visiting family she travels all the way from Saskatchewan for this delicious Japanese food. She lived in Japan for 7 years teaching and loves this place. Everything on the menu is a true award winning meal. Bento boxes, all types of sushi is a explosion of infused flavours in your mouth. We were only in Gibsons for 3 nights and we ate at Won's twice. The Coast Fever Roll is one of the best rolls I have ever eaten. read more
