Places like this are where I miss Zagat's ability to describe food/service/decor separately compared to the star rating of Yelp. You just have to read the reviews then. Note, you need 8 people for them to consider a reservation. I wanted to like this place, and I definitely feel for the employees. We came here for dinner on a Saturday night. There seemed to have been maybe 3 servers for the entire restaurant of approximately 18 or so tables of 2-6 people per table. This is the typical type of Japanese restaurant that feels and probably is run by non-Japanese Asians. I go to these places all the time, and often it is fine (another reason I go to them all the time). You could see very quickly that during peak dining times that they are not staffed very well. The waitresses have to manage seating those coming into the restaurant as well as the take our orders and the phones. This night being 3 waitresses doing all this meant they were running all over the place and trying to figure out how best to manage the situation. We were told it would take 15 minutes for a table to open up. About 30-40 minutes later was when we probably were able to sit down. You could see that due to the waitresses having to manage all this that the efficiency of getting people checks and other things to turn tables over was just not optimal. We heard others waiting who said the other location in Centerreach was better organized. The waitresses did not take names, but honestly I felt they had a good handle of who had shown up first for tables. After we sat down, we, like everyone else who waited before sitting down, handed our orders to the waitress immediately. She took drink orders which arrived quickly, but there were issues with the service after that. First, all the food that we actually ordered did not show up, until we had to essentially order them again. This was the hot food portion of the order (the cheaper stuff). When food did start arriving, it would have been nice if we were given plates and sauce dishes (for the soy sauce). We had to ask for these. The tempura was pretty much batter dipped, deep fried food of whatever you order. In terms of preparation, it was one of the poorer attempts at tempura we have seen as you could compare the appearance of the shrimp tempura with a corn dog. I did not eat it, and I am sure it tasted like a shrimp, but the batter coating looked more like a corn dog than delicate panko breaded shrimp. When the sushi arrived, again, not everything we ordered came, and we ended up ordering what was missing with the second round. As with some all you can eat sushi places we have been to in the past, when you seem to order a lot of sushi, the fish seems to get sliced in smaller pieces. Honestly it is fine since you just end up ordering more and hopefully wasting less. I did not try the trick of ordering 2 pieces vs 4 pieces to see if the amount of fish was the same for both 2 and 4, but it sure looked like they were slicing thinner than what you would get at a non-all you can eat place. Also with the second order of sushi, we got no additional wasabi or ginger (and all of it had either departed with the first plate of sushi, or was consumed (ginger that is)). We could have asked for more, but honestly you should not have to. Dessert is just one of 5 ice creams. Fresh fruit, at least maybe a cut orange or something, would have been a nice alternative option, but one that does not exist here. The place needs to be better organized first of all, and then you might be able to start excusing some of the food trade-offs. The combination of the two makes us want to look elsewhere next time we go out for a similar meal. read more

Really awesome sushi and service! The people were very kind, when we asked for more tobiko the waitress kept filling our dish and gave us an extra ice cream because we couldn't decide which to get. They also didn't give us any less when we ordered for the second or third time which most all you can eat sushi places do. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed! read more

I tried Sushi Palace for the first time tonight. I ordered it to go and overall the sushi was very good and fresh. We ordered a spicy tuna roll, california roll, and their Palace roll plus edamame and vegetable fried rice. All in just over $25 for a great meal. If you want good sushi. Don't go here. Go to hotoke which is like 5 minutes away and it's all you can eat. All their food literal butthole. They didn't get our order right and forgot to bring out other things we ordered. Honestly worst meal we have ever had. The sushi is bad quality and you can tell when you compare it to other sushi restaurants. Their service was like "let's make sure we treat these customers as one time customers, not recurring" would not come back here or ever recommend any loved one to go here. So for 20 bucks you get unlimited sushi and kitchen items. On the table is a paper menu and you check what you want. Every time they bring you something they leave a new treat. Went to sushi Palace in Commack tonight.There were only two servers in the entire restaurant. They kept bringing sushi to the wrong tables to my left and right. As well as appetizers. The sushi itself was not great it seems they like to add heat to every roll.After waiting about a half an hour finally got our sushi. Finished up late did not order again because the people to my left we're still waiting for theirs after 45 minutes. Will never go back there again read more

Love this place. Staff is always friendly and prompt. The owner is very nice too, seeing if we needed anything. Clean establishment and the food is always fresh.. dishes that are supposed to be hot come out hot as they are supposed to. If you are a sushi lover then this is the place to go. Great place for the value, if you're hungry for sushi. All-you-can-eat (selected off menu; brought to your table) allows you to have fun and try different items. The seaweed salad is fantastic. An all you can eat restaurant with both sushi and kitchen options which was a nice surprise. Both the sushi and kitchen choices were above average and were very well prepared. The 2 for 1 cocktails took us by surprise, had we known that it would have enticed us to order more. Nonetheless they tasted pretty good. I'd advise you to order more than one portion per kitchen dish because the portion size is understandably small. For example an order of sesame chicken was about 4-5 pieces and sushi rolls were typical 6-8. Definitely a great deal at a great price! read more

Went there today for lunch and was a bit disappointed. I've been coming here since they opened, but today's quality was not up to par. The quality went down on the Tuna, Yellowtail and Red Snapper sashimi. They cut very thin pieces of the fish so you think it's a lot but the slices are just too thin. The fish was fresh however. Miso soup was good, but the Gyoza Shrimp was a little too doughy. Good thing I had a Groupon so the price was real right. I'll try it again for dinner, maybe it's different at that time. Sushi is warm and low quality. The restaurant is also very warm and the wifi never works. Hotoke in Smithtown is much better for all you can eat and only two dollars more but the manager stares at you over there to make sure you eat every last drop on your plate or they try to charge you extra. This place has good quality food however they are open until 10pm but when I call to place a takeout order between 915/930 they purposely don't answer the phone and when it passes 930 (final call) they finally answer and say they stopped doing take out 5 minutes ago. That is an awful way of doing business, when you food is good your service should match. 4 stars for the food 1star for their atrocious service, should be ashamed of themselves. read more
