I decided to come here with the family on Boxing Day when alot of other restaurants were closed. It was quite busy since it was one of the few places open downtown, but we got a table quickly. Our food took a while to be served, but that wasn't too big of an issue. There was a big menu, and they offered a large variety of dishes (Currys, ramen, tempura, sushi, etc). I ordered the Assorted Sushi Dinner ($18) which came with 6 Maki rolls, 6 Nigiri rolls, a small Miso soup, and supposedly a salad. I didn't get a salad, and at the time I forgot about it, but looking back on it now, I'm quite disappointed that I was never given one. I realized after price matching with the other sushi places downtown, that my meal was quite expensive, and it was due to the missing salad :( some of the maki rolls had a nice crunch to them (I'm guessing pine nuts) but other than that, it was a pretty standard mix of rolls. I think the mix of slow serving time, pretty mediocre rolls (from what I ordered) and the missing salad spoiled my experience of the place. I'd recommend having more reasonably priced dinner assortments of sushi. Also, I often see sushi at other places presented on a nice plate to make a good first impression, and the plates were pretty bland. I'd probably give a higher rating if I went again at a less busy time, but I'll stand with what I gave. read more

Sushi Nami Royale... What a gem! The sushi was beautiful, fresh, quick. The red snapper sashimi I could likely eat many, many portions of. In favour of trying others however, I limited to one order. I will be dreaming about the snapper for a while though. Sushi was expertly rolled and equally delicious. Only detraction was the tuna sashimi. Was not as fresh as the snapper and would recommend not ordering it in sashimi form. There was no miso soup to start, where typically there has been in other sushi places. But for the caliber of the sushi, I can forgive the lack of a broth with some bits of tofu and seaweed. It's not going to rock the major sushi houses here and abroad, but it's nothing to sneeze at either. Can't wait to go back! read more

I am so picky with my Japanese food since living there so long, and the Ramen I had surpassed my expectations. I was told the noodles came from Japan, which is was wondering how they got that authentic taste down do well. And what made me more happy and nostalgic is they welcome you in Japanese! I missed it! I can not comment on the quality of the food because I left before I got served. This past Monday early evening. About 5:15 pm I went in alone after reading a few Yelpful reviews. Was seated at a small table and poured a glass of water. I ordered the Ramen soup and 2 pieces or salmon sushi. At 30 minutes still no food and I had to get my own water refill. "Soo sorry. Order here soon." At 35 minutes I left. Told the to cancel my order and that I was disgusted that it took so long for a simple bowl of soup. There was max 15-20 people in the place that seats well over 100. I won't go back. read more

We had a sushi craving and we were hungry at an odd time because most restaurants were closed before the dinner rush. We tried Sushi Nami Royale because they were one of the few restaurants that was open and tried some rolls and everything tasted pretty decent. It did the trick to satisfy the craving. I was in town for an overnight between flights. Went out for a stroll and walked by many, many bars and pubs with lots of tasty (albeit fried) items on the menu. Honestly I just wanted some sushi and a good beer and didn't feel like "dining in". Popped in to Nami Royale and asked to get something for takeout. The hostess was super friendly, took my order promptly and had the courtesy to ask the sushi chefs how long it would take. We were told 15-20 so I ordered a sapp on tap and flipped through a local magazine. Got my order promptly and swung by a local liquor store for some extra appetizers. Overall a very satisfying meal - I would recommend it! read more

Just arrived st.John's and this place is just cross street where our Delta hotel located. It was Friday and they were busy when we arrived but our food came pretty fast. We had chicken pan fried noodle and back Bone pork soup (Gamjatang) and they are both taste very delicious. Because my wife was pregnant, we did not try any sushi but I think it should be good as well...checked the table next to us... their dishes presentation looks so good. In St John's for the night searching for gluten free friendly restaurant. Thanks Yelp - this was an excellent recommendation. They had a special gluten free menu and gluten free soy sauce! Yeah!Absolutely have the grilled sea scallops, favorite of the night. We tried one of every category: the edamame, maki, rainbow roll, stir fired sea food rice bowl, and sashimi. I really enjoy going to a Sushi place that isn't all you can eat. I would never eat enough Sushi to make all you can eat worth it and I find that there are more interesting roles and more selection. Sushi Name Royale has a gluten free menu and has gluten free soya sauce. They have a lot of different options and the servers are more than happy to help and speak to the chef if they aren't sure. I have been at least 4-5 times and have never had a bad experience. Check this place out if you are in the mood for quality and delicious sushi! read more

We had a party of about 10. They were uncrowded and very accommodating. This place just opened and has yet to be discovered. Being from California, I am very familiar with sushi restaurants. The decor is modern and everything is new and clean. Staff was very polite and attentive. We ordered nigiri sushi which was fresh. Sushi rolls were moderately priced and tasty. I liked the spicy edamame. They did not have Asahi beer, only Sapporo. They were also out of the milky saki that is served cold, but had a few other choices. I'd give this place about 4.5 stars. They are part of a chain based out of Halifax, and clearly know what they are doing. read more

An overall outstanding experience for our group of 5. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance to it, a place you would go for a nice evening out. The service was excellent, quick to take all orders a frequent stops by the waitress to ensure all was good and by other staff filling the table with water. For rolls we ordered the house Royale roll, oceans 7, dynamite, spicy scallop, California and BC. We weren't a fan of the oceans 7 as I found it had a fairly strong taste and believe it was the fish it was topped with. All other rolls were excellent though and would absolutely order them again. Their signature roll has a lot going on with various fish and topping and is great and the spicy scallop had a little crunch in there which I really enjoyed and found a bit different from typical spicy scallop rolls. The prices are what you would expect from a fine sushi restaurant at an average of $7 for simple rolls and $13 for specialty. I absolutely recommend this as a nice restaurant go out for an evening. read more

Walked around the area and saw this sushi place decided to go in and try it out. Ordered beef teriyaki and spicy salmon roll for take out. Very friendly workers and very clean looking place. Walked into the restaurant 10min later after a smoke and was handed a brown sealed paper bag. Got back to the hotel room and noticed that only the beef teriyaki was in the bag (the food doesn't taste bad at all, just a little too salty for my taste!). Since I have a flight to catch in 2 hours and need to leave the hotel room in about 20min there is no time to walk back so there is 10 dollars down the drain! Maybe I should have opened up the sealed bag to check but really! It's only two orders and if you can manage to mess it up I don't know what else to say. (Btw at about 1pm the restaurant wasn't too busy at all so they should have had time to double check the order). My only concern is that if a place can't even get a take out order right what else can they mess up on during cooking? read more

My husband and I chose this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary today but our evening was ruined. The table was dirty. There were a few flies flying around. We ordered a deluxe sashimi and a deluxe sushi. The fish used for sashimi and nigiri was not fresh. It had bad smell. I just wanted to vomit after the first bite. My husband had diarrhea when we got home. We had to pay 67$ for a very disappointing meal. Will never go there again. read more

I had pretty high hopes for Sushi Nami Royale, as I've ever heard great things about their Halifax, NS, location and I've seen excellent reviews online for St. John's. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely underwhelming. For starters, as silly as this may sound, one of my favourite things about Japanese restaurants is the delicious complimentary miso soup they give you... and Sushi Nami Royale doesn't offer this. I ordered an appetizer and two rolls. My starter (Sweet Potato Croquette) was soggy/mushy, Spicy Tuna Roll was decent but The Rock N' Roll was really tasteless (mostly rice). The waitress asked if I liked it and I politely explained that I didn't and left it at that. Typically, if you leave your food practically untouched, restaurants will take it off the bill as a courtesy, however, the $14.00 roll, which I left on the table, remained on the bill. Also, there were several fruit flies that my friend and I were fighting off during the entire meal, which we found gross. The best part of the experience was the server, who was very sweet. Overall, a very disappointing experience and I don't plan on returning. read more

We came here at around 9:30 on maybe a Monday evening? I think it was happy hour. Honestly, we didn't try the sushi because we were a little grossed out. Our server took a while to get to us so we had lots of time to decide whether we wanted to leave after we were seated. The first table we were seated at was supposed to be clean, but it had dirt on the side of it that was next to the wall. It was as though the middle of the table was maybe wiped but the end had been forgotten every time it had been wiped. And this was like, pieces of dirt and crumbs. I haven't ever seen that at a restaurant. We thought, OK, let's move to another table. So we did, but it was also dirty in the same way. I'm always open to trying a new place but this was a total turn off. How long it took for us to get sat and then for anyone to even come to us was a turn-off as well. Bleh. Restaurants can and should do better than this! read more
