Great little Sushi Cafe in McMinnville, OR
    Jamie W.

My grandson and I found ourselves looking for a Sushi "train" Location in McMinnville... He directed me to Sushi Kyo Express on the west end of McMinnville. It's a simple cafe with the conveyor Sushi running around the counter. The conveyor options were limited to Maki Rolls with Raw Tuna and Salmon in a few different varieties. There were a couple with octopus and then lots of cooked options with surimi crab salad, cooked shrimp in different combinations. There were also lots of dessert options and cans of Boba Tea (that my grandson snapped up quickly). It was very affordable and The server was friendly and admitted that the raw fish selections wasn't his favorite. He offered to have an Albacore Nigiri and Hamachi Nigiri put together for me. I tried a Sake recommendation and it was fine. We had a great time and enjoyed our quick lunch. I'd definitely go back again but I'll have to take my granddaughter too next time..,

Roth's grab and go sushi is better than this 'sushi'. Honestly I couldn't see any fish in any of the rolls we got. Such a disappointment. On the bright side, they are open New Year's Day.

We were in town for the night and ordered some take out to beat the heat!! We order a massive amount of food!! Everything was fresh and tasted fantastic!! The Rainbow roll was super delish and the crunchy salmon was so tasty!!

    Great selection and great prices!

I'm not sure why I haven't tried this place before!? I enjoy conveyer belt sushi just as much as traditional sushi restaurants. I think the misconception about rotating sushi is that it isn't kept fresh. That was mine at first anyway... We got to SushiKyo before the dinner rush. I'm technically not sure how long the food was spinning around but it looked fresh and more importantly tasted fresh. I love salmon nigiri and theirs just melted in my mouth. The sushi rice was tasty and proportioned well too. There was a good variety of plates rotating and the prices were reasonable. As we were finishing and the normal dinner crowd started arriving (around 6p) they started putting out the fried goodies like wontons and gyoza. I was too full to even consider them so I will definitely have to go back. We got out of there at 15.00 per person for just food. I think based on previous reviews they have stepped up their game. I'll be back.

    Shrimp ouff with soggy base

This is just okay food. The sesame balls were fried in some off oil which made them taste inedible. The Veggie roll was okay and the shrimp puff was tasty except for the weird and very soggy wonton base. The The Lemon roll was the best of the bunch with good ingredients and taste. But what the heck was "Krab". Maybe an upscale version for those who want real crab? And please don't water down the MISO. Its use not necessarily and I use it as a baseline for all sushi reatuarants

They have all the basics, sure, but really shine with some local and specialty goods. Roth's is my source for Roelli's Red Rock Cheese (an ultra-creamy bleu cheddar that is divine paired with fruit and nut crisps), local SCL's Muruku noodles, and locally grown cut flowers. They are the most prolific purveyor of nicer cheese that I have found in Mcminnville, and though space dedicated to wine is in no shortage at most grocers in the area, Roth's is pleasantly displayed and fun to shop. They have some houseplants and gifts, a decent bakery and deli, a rather large produce and bulk selection, and even offer sushi. Customer service is top priority and it shows - waits in line are never long, and every employee is agreeable and friendly. They have glass and aluminum recycling out front. Selection is limited for some items, notably pharmacy and bath and body, but that is probably not what you're shopping for here anyway. Prices can be a smidge high, but they also have good sales, and overall, it is a good choice for groceries, especially if you are seeking local products or avoiding support of larger chains.

Once we stepped inside, we were immediately struck by how beautiful the decor was. From the cherry blossom tree with seating built around it, to the wood-and-paper accents, to the elegant wall screen and custom dining tables--everything felt thoughtfully designed. Our dining experience truly felt luxurious, like a little slice of Japan right here at home. Service was excellent as well. Our waitress was friendly, patient with our questions, and quick to bring out our sushi and water. Even the water bottle was a gorgeous textured design--such a nice touch. The menu offers giant specialty rolls, nigiri, and smaller rolls, with photos of most items except the small rolls, which made ordering easy. There's plenty of seating inside, but definitely check the hours before you go. They close at 2:30 pm and reopen at 5 pm, and we've been caught arriving too late before. This restaurant may be a small local chain, but everything tastes incredibly fresh and is made to order. They also offer bento boxes and daily specials, giving lots of great options no matter what you're in the mood for. A fantastic experience all around--highly recommended!

At sushi restaurants our younger child usually only eats plain rice, and our older one is a picky eater who will eat a little chicken. We initially asked to order the kids teriyaki chicken for our older child but were told the kids menu is only for 7 and under. Since we do have a 5 year old, we ordered the kids meal for her and a side of rice. When the food arrived and we placed the chicken in front of our 10 year old and the rice in front of our 5 year old, there seemed to be some confusion among the staff, which created an awkward and uncomfortable moment for us. In the end our 10 year old only ate a few pieces of chicken and our 5 year old had a little rice, which is exactly why we ordered the smaller portions. It caught us off guard since we did have a child under the age limit at the table and were ordering plenty of food, and families often share plates. A little flexibility or discretion in situations like this might help avoid making families feel uncomfortable. That said, the staff were genuinely very kind and accommodating overall, and very sweet as we were leaving. Overall a beautiful space with very nice staff.
