Rich teriyaki sauce had perfectly balanced sweet and savory notes. We also got Philly Roll, Dynamite Roll, and Firecracker Roll. All the rolls were made with fresh ingredients and tasted good, though not the best I've ever had. The service was nice. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The ambience was ok. I hadn't eaten here in around 10 years, and I think I was a bit harsh last time. Allow me to update things... I recently brought a sushi-loving friend there for lunch and we had a great meal. The atmosphere is peaceful, cozy, and pleasantly dim. I don't remember what my friend had but he seemed to enjoy it. I got mixed veggie and shrimp tempura and a harvest moon roll--both delightful. The harvest moon was nice and plump with crispy tempura sweet potato inside. Came with plenty of wasabi and ginger. The veggie and shrimp tempura was a "small" but a rather generous helping nonetheless. Came was a savory/sweet dipping sauce. Service was spotless... no complaints this time around. I have been coming to this establishment since 2005. Consistent quality and wonderful staff! I really miss their pickled garlic they used to have. The ambiance hasn't changed much in 20 years. Tempura was a huge portion and pretty good. There were about half a dozen prawns and lots of vegetables and the batter was light, so no complaints about it. We also ordered a Rock and Roll ($6.50 on the special menu), a Rainbow Roll, a Sweet Potato Roll, a tekka maki, and an eggplant nigiri. While the rolls were tasty enough, the rice was a bit mushy. The best of all of them was the Rock and Roll. The included ginger was delicious, but I wish they were more generous with it; only two of us ate it and there wasn't really enough (there were 3 of us). Service was very slow and the tempura that was ordered as an appetizer didn't come until very late. Our family has been coming there for decades and have witnessed the decline in food quality over the last few years. This week-Wet, oversweet seaweed salad, soft soggy defrosted fish, dry old rice in the nigiri, generally unfresh and just plain bad food. Oh yeah, and the tempura calamari still had raw batter inside which we washed down with room temperature tapwater and had to request cold water. After multiple visits like this, with this one being the worst, we have decided that unfortunately we won't be back. The shrimp and vegetable tempura was also quite good, any my wife was very happy with her sushi. The rice is solid, miso also, and their little cucumber salad is surprisingly good. Placed an order for pick up and the food was ready fairly fast. We've had two times in a row now that they make our food wrong so made sure to check the main course and while that was right we were annoyed to say to least to see that they packed us a soup with a faulty lid so a soup completely emptied into the to go back making the other soup containers get mushy as well. I wanted the reviews to be wrong, I really did, but they aren't. I unfortunately won't be back. It was just my oldest son and I for a date night. I wanted him to pick a place that he could see them make the sushi. Unfortunately based on the set-up he couldn't see anything. They have a Friday/Saturday special on Nigiri, but it wasn't any discount, it was just a way to buy 1 piece instead of 2. It was a bit shocking to see a $72 bill for 1 roll (not even a special one), 8-10 pieces of nigiri,2 miso soups, NA beer, and a Japanese soda. I kept looking at the bill but it wasn't an error. All could be forgiven with quality fish... but that was a swing and a miss. I knew there would be issues when I saw all the pre-cut fish with not great coloring. I'm also saw one of the chefs cutting open packages of fish, that made it very clear it was neither quality or fresh. The fish wasn't great, some were big clunky cuts on a too small bed of rice, and everything fell apart, which means it was t great rice either. I ordered Hamachi ad I always do, but for the second time in a row got albacore. It was not fresh at all and the texture was rough, neither my son or I finished it. I know I should have said something, but I looked at the fish infront of me knowing it was hamachi and the chef confirmed... but that definitely isn't what I got. Service was fine, not bad not great. However, every other thing we ordered they were out of. It is very frustrating to have to keep ordering and ordering till you find something they have. My 9 year old is practically a cartoon character he loves everything and everyone and even he gave it a 7/10 which for him is very low! This place has gone WAY downhill. I use to come here as far back as 2015 and it was a great local spot. Since then or at least in the last 5 years it is not good. The rolls are smaller, less fish, horrible presentation, and poorly rolled. Rolls fall to pieces as you pick them up. Recently they messed up a pick up order on a Sunday afternoon when the restaurant was dead. I called, not to complain but just to let them know of the mistake because it resulted in my bill being higher even though I pre paid online. Confusing. The woman was slightly apologetic which is fine but she also indicated that she knew they messed up my order but gave it to me anyway.... I have been going to Sushi Hana for decades when Jon and Mariam owned it. I loved this restaurant when I lived there for 30 years. I took my daughter there today and was so disappointed. The edamame was over steamed to the point of mush and had brown spots. After 4 four pods we returned it. The sesame chicken was so dried that we had to put more sauce on it to make it palatable. The Hamachi Sashimi came in two different colors, red and cream. After eating sushi for more than 40 years, I realize they did not cut away the red part of the fish. Additionally, it was paper thin. We order 4 rolls in which the rice was way too sweet and the roll fell apart when picked up by fingers or chopsticks. Two of these were tasteless. In addition, i was informed that I would be charged an additional 4% for using a credit card! However, the service was exceptional as was the vegetable tempura. And first bite...hmmm, seems cool. Nibble another and think, is this cooked through? Cut the filet, seems cooked....nibble, nibble...chonk chomp. Ugh, woody breast...tough, even flattened it was tough. Ugh, ugh. So finish what I can, mention the soup temperature and the woody breast meat quality issue to the server who seemed, unsure. Said she would bring it up to the owner. Brought me the ticket, I paid and tipped after waiting for a bit to see if anyone else would check in. They didn't. Let me start off by saying Sushi Hana is fantastic. Regardless of all else, their food is always great. I have noticed some inconsistency- sometimes the agadashi tofu is in triangles, sometimes in rectangles, sauce container sizes have varied - not a big deal but just shows that there is inconsistency in the kitchen. We've gotten undercooked veggie tempura once, and we were given the wrong sauce for Katsu at one point. All that said, we obviously keep coming back - these were all separate occasions. Service is good, never been an issue, they're just pretty busy (for good reason). So absolutely give them a chance, i have to nitpick to find something wrong, just little things here and there, but always fast service and kind faces. read more

So sad that this place went downhill, came years ago and I remember it being so busy on a Saturday and the sushi was really good. Just tried it again and I thought it was odd the restaurant was empty on a Saturday night. The sushi rolls were so small and only one of the rolls was memorable. My son's chicken was good but it had like 5 tiny pieces chunks of chicken with a bunch of cabbage I think? One of my rolls was supposed to be a spicy roll with jalapeño and the half slices of pickled jalapeño really thew my off. Rolls were just not really appetizing to look at, not big on flavor and oddly a little dry? We ate the rolls but it just was not anywhere close to the best or freshest sushi we have had. HARVEST MOON ROLL. Trust me. When I first came to eat here, I was a vegetarian. Often vegetarian sushi is rather bland, and I'm used to that. But four years later (now not a vegetarian) this roll is still my go to. I think it's fried/tempura pumpkin, but the sauce they put on it is what really kicks it up a notch. Not only is it my favorite sushi of all time, but it might also be my favorite food of all time.
